Woo. Fucking. Hoo.
This website/blog is now 20 years old. TWENTY YEARS OLD. To be fair, I had other sites before it, but it was November 6, 2006 when I wrote my first post here. So much has changed about the way we get information, the way we communicate, how we experience shows and life in general. Everyone has a camera at all times. Setlists are published on archival websites. I don't need to write reviews about shows because you can literally go online and see if anything special, terrible, wonderful, or worthy of mentioning happened. I went from party girl, dive bar chick, who was out at least 5 nights a week to a partner and stepmom of a kid that was 4 when I immersed into his life who is now a sophomore in college, on a full ride, I might add, because we did that.
I was feeling like shit this week...there is just general pain that you get when you're 50 that you don't ever imagine when you're 30, I had a stye in my eye which was making it painful to even be online and try to read a screen, and when I spiral out and don't go to the zoo for a day or two, it's really easy to just not leave the house and feel even worse for not getting the fresh air and exercise. So I was thinking maybe 20 years is a good run. I should just wrap it up and send you off to ListenSD or DoSD to find your shows and just let this place languish. And then I met someone, Derek, I think, while working merch on Tuesday, and he told me how he loves the site and depends on it and how glad he was that I still do it.
So yeah. Here I am. A creature of habit. I guess I'm not quitting yet. It won't be another 20 years, I can guarantee that, but for now, here I am. Maybe after 20 years, it's time to monetize this bitch.
Stay safe out there. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
