I know it's been a minute since I've done a diary post, but I was trying to maximize the end of my late nights at San Diego Zoo and Seaworld. Darren's job changed hours, so he's up even earlier---now waking up at 4am which is when I'm usually going to sleep, so we try to make time, but sometimes we are two ships in the night. We did a nice little weekend escape to Bates Nut Farm and the Oceanside Harbor, but at least now I'll be home when he's still awake. I think the last time I wrote, I was contemplating a little road trip, and I think it's gonna happen if the wildfires can stay under control in Northern California. With that, I'll be attempting to knock out two weeks of listings before I go. We'll see how I do.

San Diego (County) has a new hockey team, the Oceanside Shock, who will be home-based at Frontwave Arena. They are part of the FPHL, which is the Federal Prospects Hockey League. Contrarily, the Gulls are part of the WCHL. While the two could potentially scrimmage, they would not face one another in league play. Hopefully this doesn't further push or inspire Escondido leaders to ~~give away~~ "lease" precious acreage of Kit Carson Park to billionaire ~~developers~~ "philanthropists" under the guise of community benefit.

ZOO GOSS:

San Diego Zoo's prehensile-tailed porcupines, Gracie and Picante, recently welcomed the birth of their second porcupette.
That's a wrap! San Diego Zoo has ended their run of "Nighttime Zoo". It is rumored that the summer evenings will be rebranded for 2027 and beyond. No word if Jambo will return, but I can tell you that after speaking to many, many members, separately ticketed nights will be wholly rejected. Mostly it is understood that it's no longer "Nighttime Zoo" merely because, while the event once ran through Labor Day and until 10pm, it had already been condensed to end at 8pm and ending the day before SDUSD started the new school year, almost a whole month before Labor Day, thus not really being Night Time in the sense that it has still been light out as the park closed. I'm not freaking out yet. Plus, HalGLOWeen is just around the corner, and is already on the schedule. Starting October 2 and running on weekends in October, Friday-Sunday, the Zoo will be open 9am-9pm, after which the entire month of November (including Sunday, November 1) will close at 5pm. Get it in when you can.

SEA WORLD GOSS:

It's also a wrap for Seaworld San Diego Summer Spectacular, however you can still enjoy extended hours on weekends until 9pm Fridays and Saturdays and then 7pm on Sundays, until they kick into their Howl-O-Scream season, which is a whole other ticket and while I'm sure it's awesome if you're a teenager or in college, I don't enjoy a jump scare, definitely don't want strangers following me or breathing down my neck, and all of the animal habitats are closed.
