Things To Do In San Diego: Tuesday, January 29-Monday, February 4, 2019

It has been so busy with the Casbah 30, but I was also kinda sick last week, so I missed both Pinback shows, but had a blast at Transfer and No Knife. Nova got back from sixth grade camp on Friday, so we spent the afternoon oohing and ahhing at the baby elephant and the six week old cheetah cubs in the nursery and then went to the zoo on Saturday. I am exhausted so I'll keep this short and just say if anyone has an in for Elton, I'm totally down. I also plan on checking The Silent Comedy, Three Mile Pilot, Cursive and Mineral, and Olafur Arnalds. Whether I can hit them all is another story, but that's the plan for now. Things To Do In San Diego: Wednesday, January 23-Monday, January 28, 2019

Since I've been bitching forever, I have to start by saying that Davy Tiltwheel fixed my computer! Yay! I have Cs and Vs and Xs and I can copy/paste again without wanting to launch my laptop across the room. And since I kept talking about Nova's soccer, she was asked to join the Blast A Team, moving her up from last season so we'll be sticking to PB for soccer. Funnily enough, I found a movie from 2014 on HBOGo called "Bad Parents" about club soccer and it is pretty hilarious. Right now she's at 6th grade camp and I hope she's having a blast. Over the week, I've been fighting off sickness so I didn't hit many shows, though on Saturday, we busted out the canoe for San Diego River Estuary cleanup, and that night I went with my sister to see Maggie and Rosetta at the Lyceum, then met up with Darren to see Adolescents at the Casbah. On Monday I went to Snail Mail and Parquet Courts at Music Box then caught The Districts at Casbah, and last night I worked for Via Satellite, which is why my listings normally publish at 6am, but it's literally 5:54 and I am still trying to make that happen. Ack. I will be in bed all day, but maybe I'll catch Pinback tonight if I can get this sickness under control. Listings through Monday are after the jump.

Things To Do In San Diego: Monday, January 13-Tuesday, January 22, 2019

I have been in full on soccer mom mode so sadly I had to miss both Melvins shows last week, but I had a fun time doing merch at the Casbah on Friday for The Dragons. It was a hell of a reunion. On Saturday night Darren and I went up to Amen Dunes, and I spent my Sunday working on these listings so that I could fully celebrate on Monday night for Casbah day! I also decided to do listings through Tuesday since next Monday is a holiday. Other than that, there are several shows I want to catch this week, but with various tryouts all week, I don't know how much fuel will be left in the tank at the end of each day. Things To Do In San Diego: Tuesday, January 8-Monday, January 14, 2019

I'm probably a horrible, terrible person, but Nova is back at school today and I'm so relieved. She got back from St Louis last week, and of course we're at peak anxiety when she's gone, but then we have to struggle to entertain and still get all of our work in and for freelancers, that can be extra stressful, as we plan full and active days and then work all night when she's asleep. We did another zoo trip and Safari Park trip over the weekend and Jungle Bells is now officially over. I also went to the Casbah a couple times, like the Yacht Rock night on Thursday and to see Chinchilla and Uncle Joes on Saturday. I'm still waiting on my new keyboard (which has been a nightmare) and my shoulder is messed up, so I'm chilling on my show photography for a hot minute but I'll get back in soon. I love them and could watch them all day long.

Things to Do in San Diego: Thursday, January 3-Monday, January 7, 2019

Happy New Year! I was hoping my computer would be fixed by now, but alas, we're still waiting for the part to arrive from Hong Kong. I only mention this because I really am in the midst of a sort of year-end/new year post, but it's just super challenging at the moment. I've gone back to the regular schedule, so listings are just though Monday and then the new weeks will resume on Tuesdays. Since I last wrote, we had a mostly good week. Nova was in St Louis for a week, so Darren worked a lot and I caught up on a lot of TV and tried to keep warm at home. I went to Tijuana for a Turista Libre excursion which I'll share more on when I can type normal again, Darren and I went to the Get Back Loretta show, and while I stayed in on New Year's Eve, I started off the year with an awesome day at Balboa Park, catching the Organ Pavilion concert, ran into Daye and friends so we walked around the park, hung out at Panama 66, then Darren met up with us, we picked up our van, had a great dinner at Taste of The Himalayas, then wandered around the zoo in the cold. I'm definitely ready for a new year and am especially looking forward to this massive month of Casbah 30th Anniversary events. Listings through Monday are after the jump.
