Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, July 31-Wednesday, August 6, 2025: Monophonics | Maren Morris | Colleen Green | Shaggy | ArtWalk | Treach & Rob Base | Ezra Furman | Steve Ear;e | Frente Cumbiero |

It is supposed to be a chill moment for San Diegans...we're past the 4th of July, Pride Weekend, and Comic-Con, and we've got lots of summer left, but it all still feels a little crazy. So I'm gonna try and simmer it all down for a bit, and I hope that you do, too.

Comic-Con Activations: Adult Swim Pirate Purrrty On The Green | Twisted Metal Bumper Cars | King of The Hill Experience | Petco Park Interactive Zone | Restart Gaming Lounge | Crunchyroll Anime Fanfest | Alien: Earth Immersive Activation and more!!

I tried to be a little more thoughtful as I received this year's Comic-Con emails because there were a lot. But then as I was trying to put stuff into my listings, it just made sense to do a separate post for activations. And then I ended up working on Wednesday night, completely missing preview night at the convention center and the chance to preview a bunch of the activations, too, but since I've been doing some late night non-bar excursions a lot lately, I decided to walk around the whole Comic-Con area to explore. I parked on 4th near the Horton Grand Hotel, walked to the Harbor Club and up MLK Promenade, then hooked a right on 1st to see the Twisted Metal activation. I worked my way back to Harbor Drive and crossed at 1st to get to the Bay Access path between the Marriott and the Convention Center. Then I cruised all the way down to the Shell, along the bay to the Hilton Bayfront, then up to the third floor of the garage to cross the pedestrian bridge to Petco Park. I walked the rest of the MLK Promenade then did a big loop around 5th and 6th Avenues until I made it back to my car. There's a lot to see, but there will also be a lot of lines to wait in. I would say don't bother with The Lodge unless you have a reservation because FUCK Paramount and all that. Twisted Metal will be bonkers, too, so make sure you're willing to sign a waiver for yourself or your kids before you get in line. There is a really cool pop-up for Abbott Elementary at 5th Avenue Landing, next to Joe's Crab Shack where there is a full carnival sized Ferris Wheel, Adult Swim always brings a fun activation, and Hulu's King of The Hill seems to have followed their lead. I hope you find some fun, no matter where your walking takes you. These activations will be duplicated on my Comic-Con tab. Scroll to the bottom to see a selection of my phone photos from my journey.

Things To Do In San Diego: Wednesday, July 23-Wednesday, July 30, 2025: COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL! | Father John Misty | Giuda | Fitz & The Tantrums | Wavves | Ben Kweller |

Comic-Con is upon us, so I wanted to update the listings but I got a little behind, so for now, here's what we've got. I've also updated the Comic-Con Tab on this site (use the little triangle pull-down on mobile). I am doing my best to just go with the flow for the next 5 days, which I guess is kinda how I always roll anyway. I hope everyone has a fun and safe Con. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, July 17-Wednesday, July 30, 2025: San Diego Pride | Good Trouble Lives On Protest | Toad The Wet Sprocket | Emo Nite | Best of SD Party | Father John Misty | Comic-Con | Fitz & The Tantrums | Ben Kweller |

I don't love staying up all night to work on listings, but I did appreciate when I did two weeks over the 4th of July holiday, so I decided I would do the same for Pride and Comic-Con. And look, I get that the Pride Festival is super controversial this year, but I don't think the whole parade and experience should be ruined because of that poor booking choice. This week, our trans niece died by suicide, so I really don't need anyone to tell me why Pride should be quieted this year, especially with the intense and unrelenting attacks on transgender people that result in the exaggerated rates of mental illness and suicide.
Meanwhile, next week is Comic-Con, so I still have a ton of emails to get through and I'll separate out the events and activations within my listings and I'll activate my Comic-Con tab once again, so it's all easy to navigate for those who still use my listings.
As for right now in this very moment, I'm going to be late for work, so I have to shut it down and mosey.

Rocket and new baby, born 7.8.2025

I'm trying to "clean slate" my inboxes and posts because with Pride this week and Comic-Con next week, my email volume has already tripled. So while I know there's so much news coming at us all the time, I'm just not gonna cover every stupid thing done by this administration. I just can't. It's a lot. And we're all just trying to get by and balance all the terrible things happening. The cruelty is the point and it's just mind-blowing. So let's just move forward.

San Diego is especially beautiful this time of year, even with the occasional heat waves, so let's just enjoy our City and put one foot in front of the other and try to keep finding our personal joy.

Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, July 10-Wednesday, July 16, 2025: Bad Cop/Bad Cop | Velvet Glow | Low Cut Connie | Jim Rao Fan Club | Alison Krause | M. Ward | Mei Semones | Kelcey Ayer | The Coronas |

I'm always in the middle of a diary post, so I'll get that up at some point, but for now, let's just try and get excited for post-Independence Day July, because now that the holiday weekend is gone (where we smartly hid away from tourists and traffic at the Kumeyaay Lake Campground), we can take a breather and then get ready for Pride (in spite of controversy) and Comic-Con! My inbox is starting to fill up on the daily with CCI activations, products, and events, so per usual, I'm trying to filter through to make sure I cover all the events, while I leave all the collectibles and products and publishing to the devoted sites that know way more about all those things. In the meantime, it's hot, so find some time to check out your favorite beach or shady hike or do like I do, and hide at the zoo among the lush botanical collection that keeps the temperature about 10-15 degrees cooler than everywhere else in the County.

Ransisku (Taken 6.24.25)

If I try to just keep keeping up with the news, this post will just never get published, so here we are at the end of June and there's SO MUCH HAPPENING, in case you weren't aware by the dozens of emails from your favorite organizations asking for money for the end of their fiscal year and beginning of a new one. It's pretty atrocious out in this world right now, so I've been trying to find joy in my little bubble, but even then, now we have to think about the madness happening across all three branches of our federal government and the reverberations that is causing across the country, our state, and our region and man, it's fucking dire... But we are mere humans and only have the capacity for so much dread, so please do what it takes to find your own joy. For me, that has continued to be in photography and music and my zoo time, my Seaworld time, going to La Jolla Cove super late at night, shopping when I need nothing, and time with Darren and family when our schedules allow.

Stay safe out there. C-19 is seeing a resurgence and they're calling a symptom "razorblade throat", so do your damnedest to steer clear. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
