Things to do Tonight: Tuesday, Nov 14, 2006

Update on this post: The House of Blues show with Page France, Anathello and Kite Flying Society is at 8:30, doors are at 8. Looks like you're gonna have to make a choice tonight...or go see Kite Flying first, then fly up to the Belly Up. In the rain. Probably not the best plan.

I wish I could have today off. If I did, I'd start at the free museum Tuesday at Balboa park, then walk over to the zoo and use my pass because the animals tend to be more active in the drizzle...after I would maybe check out happy hour at Laurel... where they have Tapas Tuesdays...small tapas paired with wines to complement the flavors.

But I can quit fantasizing. The consolation is there is plenty of good stuff going on tonight. So here's my list of where to spend Tuesday night.

James Blunt & Starsailor @ iPayOne Center (San Diego Sports Arena). I know, if you hear "You're Beautiful" one more time, you might shoot someone, but Starsailor is amazing live. I saw James Blunt play at Borders before he as splattered all over MTV, and honestly, it was a good performance. If you like tears in your beer, check it out.

Silversun Pickups & The Stereotypes @ The Belly Up. This is part of the 94/9 About the Music series and is only $6. SSPU is already a nationwide blog darling, which means if you miss them, by the next time they come around you'll be too cool and call them sell-outs or some shit. I'll be there, you should be, too.

Anathello, Page France and Kite Flying Society @ House of Blues Sidestage. I believe this show starts at 10:30, so you should fly down the 5 after the Belly Up to catch our locals Kite Flying Society. Did you know they made it to number 37 in the topsellers list at Insound Music? The sidestage is actually in the main restaurant after hours. It's a good room.

If you're not into those options here's some other goings on:

Zebrahead, Patent Pending, & Authority Zero @ House of Blues Main Stage. I'm only listing this to distinguish the 2 separate shows happening under the same roof. The listing made it look like 6 bands are all together, which would be comedic but scary, too.

Wolf Eyes with Sick Llama, Raven Strain, Dysthymia @ Casbah (I have no idea but Troy made this his CityBeat Plan A)

Suicide Girls with Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re @ Brick By Brick

Big Sonic Chill @ A/C Lounge

Weekly Eating Contest @ The Tower Bar. Winner gets a $30 Bar Tab.

Punk Rock Bingo @ The Ken Club (I think this is still happening...if not, go anyway. Dev is the best bartender in town.)
