CoViD-19: More On Masking, Ventilation, Breakthroughs, Viral Loads. The Usual. | What The Hell Is Going On With Mexico? |

Ficus at Fiesta Island Dog Park (Taken 5.27.21)

I wanted to make sure I go into the weekend with more or less a clean slate, so I finished going through my inboxes and decided I would do another post before my nightly one on Friday because it's already gonna be a busy news day with Biden releasing his budget and congress breaking for a week and media packing it all in before Memorial Day weekend.

I also stayed up late watching Plan B on Hulu. It's very similar to Booksmart in that it's a night of adventure with two besties blah blah, but it was pretty good. Glad I didn't watch with Nova though, there's a graphic peen scene and maybe a little above her need-to-know at this point in her teens.

I really probably could've just skipped all this reading, but I think it is important that we're mindful going into the holiday weekend that while over 53% of the population of San Diego is vaccinated, NO children under 12 are, kids 12-15 are only partially vaccinated, if at all, and young people aren't showing high percentages of vaccination as we saw with boomers and gen xers. You can probably trust your server or bartender or grocery cashier has been vaccinated, not so much the person sitting next to you or waiting in line breathing down your neck. And as I've mentioned multiple times, I absolutely don't trust tourists, being that there's already an inherent danger in travelling at all, even now.

On a separate note, I've been seeing a lot of separate but loosely connected stories about Mexico and tensions with the US and their crazy elections and assassinations and violence and travel bans and none of that even touches the migrant issues. I thought I'd kinda do a little roundup on all of that, too.

But now I need sleep. Stay safe out there.

COVID-19 | Too Many Problems | Save Our Stages | Arts Industries Called Out | Stop Kangaroo Cleats

Kangaroo at San Diego Safari Park (Taken 6.28.2020)

Thursday was kind of a throwaway day for me. After a great Wednesday and a night in the speakeasy with Darren, I just needed a day of nothing. I didn't watch any news or briefings or do much of anything besides a trip to Costco. We love going right before closing, it's nice and empty right around 7:45 through closing and we had no problem getting everything we needed so that we won't need to do any shopping this weekend at all. I'm looking forward to this weekend with the Casbah's live show with Scary Pierre (I'll be watching from home like everyone else,) maybe a trip to the Zoo to see the new ring-tailed lemur twins, and fixing up  the backyard with some projects and setting up our new outdoor furniture. Still, I did some reading and writing, so all of that is after the jump.

CoViD-19: San Diego Beaches To Reopen | Blood Needed | Face-Coverings Matter | Swap Meet Reopens | Private Equity Is Killing Us All

Starting on Tuesday, passive activities can resume at San Diego County Beaches (Taken 3.9.2020)
These sea lions are me, screaming at strangers to social distance and put on their goddamn masks.
Darren and I had a fun little night in the speakeasy. We didn't end up going for photos yesterday as we ran out of time, but maybe after I publish this we'll head out since Nova's soccer Zoom is canceled today. Things are opening up around the City and the State and I'm trying to quell my anxiety about that. This pandemic sure hasn't made me trust any of my fellow humans. I'm already freaking out about going to see the sea lions and getting pissed that even though we all know very clearly what 6 feet of distance looks like, people still get way too close to the pinnipeds. Anyway, my last SoundDiego post published today, and I've been working up to a post on that, but until then, be safe out there.

CoViD-19: San Diego Bans All Social Gatherings of Any Size | The Chicken King of OB | Bernie Bows Out | Links & Articles of Interest

This bunny has taken up occupancy of our yard for the past several months.
I had to file for EDD today. Unfun. On the positive, I actually got through my first batch of today's emails by 5pm (instead of working till 2am yesterday) so I guess I'm streamlining a bit better and making a more functional system, kinda like Konmari (read now, label and read later, delete without reading). The main news today was that the County and City will be adding a Behavioral Health Fund, but all these new systems, which should've existed all along in the first place, are really slow to roll out, so we'll see what happens there. The bigger news is that ALL SOCIAL GATHERINGS ARE NOW PROHIBITED in San Diego unless you are members of the same household.
The County Wednesday expanded its Health Order to prohibit gatherings of any type, effective Thursday.
“We decided to extend the gathering restrictions because people were getting together in parks, beaches and other open spaces,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “People should stay at home and only go in public when doing essential activities, such as grocery shopping or going to the pharmacy.”

Here are my latest for NBC:
And some of the latest must-read articles:
And of course,
And hopefully these aren't bogus like the dolphins in the canals of Venice, but some bright news...
While I'm still writing for SoundDiego, that income is definitely not enough to cover expenses. If you appreciate the posts on this site, please consider a small donation or tip via Venmo/sddialedin or Paypal.

Recap: I Love This City Festival @ Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre, 5.27.2012

A few weeks ago Chase, who has been contributing to this site as SD at 140bpm, convinced me that since I wasn't asked to cover Lightning In A Bottle this year, that I should at least participate in the "I Love This City" tour. I'm down to go the extra mile for this site and if that means an afternoon of DJs at a festival, well, after IDentity and Coachella, I can say while you're not gonna catch me rolling or sporting a tutu, or even fist pumping when the bass drops (no matter how many beers you pour down my throat), I'll still do my best to cover events and make every effort to have a good time while doing it. Read more after the jump. (note: I started this post the day after the show, but life got in the way. Sometimes that happens.)
