I have been uninsured since October 13, 2008. It is quite possible that I will be uninsured for a long time coming, which is all fine and dandy unless my appendix decides to burst or I contract swine flu or anything of real consequence were to happen to me. I've been paying close attention to the health care debate, I met with Howard Dean to hear him speak about the public option, and I think Matt Taibbi did an amazing job breaking it down in Rolling Stone. But now, time for some comic relief from a scary and serious situation.

Health Care Rally in San Diego Tomorrow
"Public Option Now!"
Health Care Rally in San Diego
Host: Paul M.—fellow MoveOn member
Where: Sen. Barbara Boxer's District Office (in San Diego)
When: Thursday, Jul. 9, 2009, at 12:00 PM
What: Key Senate votes on health care are coming next week. So we're rallying at Senator Barbara Boxer's office to urge her to fight for a strong public health insurance option. We'll hear from speakers with firsthand stories about the health care crisis and deliver a massive petition to the senator's staff.
I had the opportunity to meet Howard Dean last week when he was on a book tour advocating a public health care option. I will post about that experience soon enough, but in the meantime, I thought I'd post this Move-On event.

Politics: Howard Dean Book Signing
Howard Dean is appearing at Warwick’s (7812 Girard Ave. in La Jolla) today for a book-signing. The 2004 presidential candidate and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee penned Howard Dean’s Prescription for Real Healthcare Reform: How We Can Achieve Affordable Medical Care for Every American and Make Our Jobs Safer. I've read about half of it so far and as an uninsured American, it gives me hope that the healthcare reform (and insurance reform) issues will finally be dealt with in a real and seriousl way. Dean will sign copies from 4:30 to 6 p.m. 858-454-0347, www.warwicks.indiebound.com.
