New Radio in San Diego: Jack-FM flips to KFM-BFM "True Variety That Rocks"

As you may or may not recall, a few weeks back 100.7 Jack-FM announced that Garett Michaels would be returning to the San Diego market as Program Director of the station. This also happened shortly after Midwest and LMA, the group behind 91X, combined promotional and sales forces (kind of), and then they announced the station would be taking a new format, for which we've been  patiently waiting. Today, it was revealed.

For background info, check out this piece on SoundDiego and this one in the Reader and my little blurb from last month.

From this day forward, the station will be known again as 100.7 KFM-BFM (with the pause after the first M). They kicked off with history of the spot on the dial, then played a promo with snippets of Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Green Day, INXS, Guns n Roses, Nirvana, The Cars, White Stripes, and AC/DC with tag lines like "True Variety That Rocks" and "We play whatever, whenever." They kicked off the new format with Rush into The Ramones to Pearl Jam to Modern English into The Who, and Midnight Oil. (Then Tom Petty, The Black Keys, AC/DC, Foo Fighters). This is a dad rock station for your dad bod to chill in your man cave. Don't expect to hear many (any?) female artists on this format aside from maybe some tokens like Joan Jett, Blondie, or The Pretenders.

So there you have it. Let's see how it goes and grows. You can find the station online at KFMBFM.com.

Jack FM Big Nighttime Zoo Party: 4 Free Tickets

This Saturday, Jack FM 100.7 is hosting a Big Nighttime Zoo Party for their listeners.

From The Station:
In case you’re not in the know, all the festivities are going on THIS SATURDAY, June 23rd, from 4 – 9 pm. We are guaranteeing a day of fun for the entire family. Check out all the cool animals at the Zoo as the sun goes down, the different shows and demonstrations from this years Nighttime Zoo theme “Fiesta De Las Caras”, and don’t forget to see Jack FM’s own wild animal – The Music Monkey!!

I got my hands on 4 tickets to this event but since it will be happening at the same time as my sister's baby shower, I'd like to make sure they don't go to waste.
Send an e-mail to divebarchick@gmail.com and tell me your favorite animal and who your three guests will be and I'll pick a winner at random by the end of the day Thursday and we can coordinate pick-up of the tickets sometime Friday.

New Concert Announcement: Jack Fest 2007! Aug 19 @ Coors

Radio station Jack FM has sent out this announcement:
Coming Sunday, August 19th at Coors Amphitheatre is 100.7 Jack Fest 2007!
Jack’s first ever concert is featuring ZZ Top, The Pretenders, Stray Cats
and REO Speedwagon!
Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, June 2nd at 10 am at all Ticketmaster outlets.
Keep listening to find out more info about Jack Fest 2007!!

I genuinely think it's pretty sad how poorly X-Fest appeared to sell. The venue was not even close to full when we were there midday and I assume there were a lot of tickets given away (to media, winners on the station, vendors, clients, etc.) I'm disappointed because as I've mentioned, two alt stations in a market should be a good thing for the music and while I've acknowledged that I am not part of the 91X demo, a lot of people should be and should be more enthusiastic about a station branded music festival.

But anyway, my point of this is post is to take guesses...
Will this show sell?
What will be the average ticket price?
What will the average ticket price be with service charges, facility fees, toilet flushing surcharge, breathing the air tax, driving through Chula Vista toll, and joint use fee for parking in the dirt behind Knott's Soak City?
What percentage of seats will be left unused come Sunday August 19th?
Anyone wanna play?
