Jesse LaMonaca and the Dime Novels: Pyles Session & SoundDiego Live

On Friday I had the pleasure of hanging out at SDRL...Stereo Disguise Recording Laboraties...as Keith Milgaten and Pall Jenkins recording a Pyles Session with Jesse LaMonaca and the Dime Novels. The full session will be broadcast tonight on The Local 94/9 on FM 94/9 at 9:30. If you're not near a radio or outside of San Diego, you can stream the show online here.

Jesse LaMonaca and the Dime Novels will be performing a free show this Thursday night at Anthology with The Blackout Party. Doors are at 9:30 pm and there will be drink and appetizer specials all night long. I'll even be providing the music between bands. Click the flier to RSVP for the event, and we hope to see you on Thursday night.

This is an outtake from before the session. I was on a weird ladder, so sorry it gets kinda shaky for a minute as I adjusted my position.

Tonight: Local Production Featured On TLC

Local filmmaker Destin Cretton created a documentary called "Born Without Arms" that will premiere tonight on TLC. Destin writes, "The film features San Diego Musician/Songwriter Mark Goffeney, who is the lead singer/bass player in the band "Big Toe." (bigtoerocks.com) Along with the other two amazing people highlighted in the film, Mark was born without arms. He also plays the guitar (with his toes) and takes the time to be a good dad to his three kids."

They're also having a premiere party at The Pearl Hotel on Sunday night from 9pm to 11pm (show starts at 10pm) with the doc projecting on their big screen outside. Some of the San Diego local artists involved in this film are:

Destin Cretton - Writer/Director/Producer/Editor
Joel P. West - Composer
Brad Kester - Assistant Director
Andrew Glendinning - Illustrator/Graphic Design
Keith Milgaten - Music Engineer/Mixer
Jon Smith - Animator
Kelly Bennett - Violin
Doug Welcome - Bass, Trombone

BORN WITHOUT ARMS
Imagine trying to navigate through life without arms. It almost seems impossible. But three extraordinary human beings, Mark, Jessica and Nadia, don’t have to imagine — it’s their reality. They were born without arms. Watch as all three individuals set and accomplish goals that surpass what the average person might ever dream to achieve. Their incredible stories premiere on TLC 12/13/09 at 10pm/9 central.

KMRC/SDRL Releases Local Compilation

Keith Milgaten, of The Vision of A Dying World, Jamuel Saxon, Black Mamba and a million other projects, has been working with local musicians for a number of years now, and he's released a FREE compilation.
I just finished the final touches to the first ever Keith Milgaten Recording Collective Compilation: "Recording is Rewarding"!

The purpose of this compilation is to display a portion my body of work over the past several years, and further inform people of the accomplishments and progress I have achieved over that time. That means 17 new tracks from various San Diego bands/ artists! I would like to encourage every listener to think about this comp in terms of what working with KMRC could do for the sound of your band/ musical project.

Here's the full track listing:

An Intimate Evening At SDRL

One week ago, I was pleased to join my friends at an open house of sorts at SDRL, or Stereo Disguise Recording Lab. They had a BBQ and performances from Writer, Black Mamba, Lion Cut, Mr. Tube, D.S. Yancy, Drew Andrews and more. It's not often that I get to see musicians so raw, inside a recording studio (By all means, I am open to invitations!), and it made for a really inspiring and beautiful night.

SDRL sits in a warehouse complex off Balboa Avenue. Pall Jenkins is at the helm and Keith Milgaten is now doing his own share of recording up there as well. The bands they've recorded, as well as the guests on this particular night, was an impressive list of who's who in the San Diego music scene and it felt really special to be there among so many talented people, all without pretense, just to hang out and play and hear some amazing music.
