Get Your Tickets To 91X Lump of Coal!
I'm so behind and totally meant to post the whole press release and yada yada last week, when it was announced that Jane's Addiction dropped off the bill for Wrex The Halls. With that news, refunds were supposed to be issued at point of purchase, and the whole show--without Jane's--moved to Soma with a lowered ticket price of $25. Tickets to Wrex the Halls will NOT be honored at Soma. You have to buy a new ticket for this event. The show is all ages. (Tickets are ticketed through Ticketmaster or Soma. I've provided the Soma link because historically their fees are lower than TM)

The Wombats FTP Session/ See Them At The Casbah Tonight (5.9.2012)
I am not exaggerating when I say that I've actually had dreams about (1) setting all of my possessions on fire (2) being on a TV show that was a hybrid of "Clean Sweep" and "Hoarders". Don't ask me how packing/moving is going because it isn't. I have 20 empty boxes in my house and really all I want to do is take all my stuff to my alley and let people go to town finding what they need.
Needless to say, life has been a little bit more hectic this week than I predicted. Today we had a Casbah meeting and I have a grip of shows to add to our calendar, Pyles and I dropped by the Pacific San Diego Magazine offices, then went to FM 94/9 to record a session with The Wombats, dropped the band off at the Casbah, and picked up some pet food for my starving babies. Now it's 5:30 and I'm reheating leftovers (my first meal of the day) as I wait for some dude who might want to buy my car.
Not that you care about any of this.
The main point, after all, is that The Wombats are playing at the Casbah tonight for the first time in about four years and there are still plenty of tickets available for the show. After spending a little time with the band, I can tell you that they're all great guys and tonight promises to be a great show. They also joked that they're looking for alternate revenue streams and will be starting a butter company called Road Butter. We deduced that there is some gross and devious meaning, but maybe they just meant this. Below are the two songs they played in studio, "Jump Into The Fog" and "Tokyo".

Rearview Mirror: The Wombats at The Casbah, 9.3.08
As I mentioned, on Monday I ended up hanging out with Jake and Daye having a late lunch/early dinner at DiMille's and was planning on taking it easy, but that didn't exactly happen when I got the call that I was needed to sell merch for Southern Culture on The Skids at the Casbah. That was a really fun show and they were really, really nice people to work for. Then on Tuesday, I ended up at the Ken hoping to get my listings up, but the wi-fi was down, so after hanging there for a bit, I went to the Chee Chee Club to check it out, which I posted about last week. I ended up getting those listings up eventually later that night.
On Wednesday, I was pretty tired and couldn't decide if I should still check out The Wombats at the Casbah, but eventually headed down. I missed most of Pop Noir's set, but it was cute to see people dancing on the dancefloor. Reminded me of a scene at a prom in just about every 80's movie.
The Wombats came out and were really energetic. They started with an a capella song, with the three all on one mic which was a great demonstration that they really do have some pipes. They played through their short set but were thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. I think they were a little disappointed when playing "Kill The Director" that nobody caught on to the sing-along of "this is no Bridget Jones", but they didn't give any less enthusiasm. They had never played San Diego before and I hope were happy enough with the response to come back.
Here's the setlist, though slightly inaccurate because they inserted a song called Laura toward the beginning of the set and I don't think they played My First Wedding, but I could be wrong on that one. Anyway, you can see in the top that the list says "LA", so I think it was more of a guideline than a set list.

I particularly enjoyed watching Tord on bass who was all over the stage and never stopped, but they all brought it in their own way,

My only complaint, and I say this for everyone else at the show who complained about it to me after the fact, was this little hussy and her friend. During the 4th song, she completely ate shit, falling in front of the stage, to which Murph, the singer asked if they were on "some sort of Meth binge." The band was noticeably uncomfortable with the girls falling all over the stage, knocking the bass monitor to face the wall 3 different times, and then toward the end of the set, as you see below, as well as laying across the center monitor. I think the chick then got a moment of clarity or had to throw up, because suddenly her and her friend exited the side door. I hope to never have to endure a show with these chicks ever again and I think they'd followed the band down from L.A.

Afterward the band hung out talking to fans and signing merch and obliged when I asked to take some pics (and they drew the cute little pics on my setlist). They're definitely worth checking out though you might've missed your chance for a while, as they have a pretty extensive European tour, but you can follow their Tweets on Twitter. (@thewombats)

Where Have You Been?
Yes, that is the title of a Manchester Orchestra song and I love it and I'm excited for their new album. More about that later. In the meantime, I've been out every night this week which means no writing. The day job has me pretty busy. And why do I have to keep explaining to people that this website is not my day job? For real. I have a job in advertising and it kicks my ass every day, and I still go out because there is amazing stuff happening around town every day. What is your excuse?
Anyway, I have a gazillion pictures to work through, but here's one of The Wombats that I love, and I completely adored the band, not only for their incredible performance at the Casbah, but because they were total sweethearts after their show.

Tonight I found myself on a KPRI harbor cruise of the bay on the huge boat called The Inspiration to see The Old 97's. Not only was it a great show, but it was one of those nights to really appreciate what a beautiful city we live in.
This one is as we were taking off from the port.
And then later, as we headed toward Coronado.
And then sexy Rhett Miller conferring with Ken about their next song.
So no, I haven't been good about posting, but I certainly have a lot of catching up to do. It's been a good but hard week. Friday will kick my ass and then perhaps I can pull a hermit on Saturday to share it all with you. If you really miss my posts, follow me on Twitter. I'm way more accessible there. (@sddialedin)
