CoViD-19 Have We Learned Anything? | Valley Fire Containment Increases | San Diego Museums: What's Open

Greg Laswell at Belly Up (Taken 9.11.2019)

I'm sorry about how many people are struggling during this pandemic, but I have to say, I am naturally a homebody. We *almost* went to the Safari Park today, but by the time we ate a late lunch, double checked the weather, and I realized how much email I had to get through, it was a no-go. Darren and Nova went and played tennis again while I had an hour of quiet at home.
I watched a local news clip where the reporter was trying to explain the tier system and the current San Diego numbers and he kept saying that our cases per 100k were "6.9 percent" which is not accurate. He also said we're being adjusted for not enough testing whereas I understood the opposite. But either way, the point is that the County is basically objecting to the current numbers because of data reporting issues from some of the testing centers back to the state. So I'm not the only one who is confused, but I think I have it all somewhat sorted in my brain now.
Since we've been home a lot, we've been watching a lot. We're watching Away on Netflix but it's super dramatic, so we're sticking to one episode a night. I also watched Krystal on Netflix which, despite being directed by William H Macy, I don't really recommend, unless you can sit through a couple hours of literally the worst acted southern accents you can imagine. Does this ever appeal to anyone from the actual south or midwest? And then the background music is always some slow strum banjo or some bullshit. I watched the whole thing (because I can't start something without finishing) but you've been warned.
I also watch Chemical Hearts on Amazon Prime. It's about a high-school kid who lives a very normal, uneventful life until he meets the new girl at school, who is sorta the opposite of the manic-pixie, but no less a trope: dark, mysterious, walks with a cane from a traumatic injury, and has a very bipolar vibe as she works through her shit. Still, I enjoyed it enough that I checked out the book it's based on from the San Diego Public Library app immediately after I watched it. Anyway, lots of news and stuff, but you won't find any links about Fury or any of the outcry by the tapes here. We already know where I stand on this, I've already blocked family from Facebook, and I'm gonna try to temper the rage until the election is over.

February is Museum Month in San Diego! Get 50% Off at All Participating Locations!

February is Museum Month in San Diego which mean you can head to participating San Diego Libraries to pick up a free pass that will get you half off entry to a ton of San Diego's museums. To see the full list of pass pickup locations and participating destinations, go to the official site here.

Here's the spiel from the San Diego Museum Council:
This February, San Diego Museum Council is teaming up with San Diego area libraries, Hilton and Macy’s to make San Diego Museum Month 2020 bigger and better than ever.
With more than 40 museums and cultural attractions offering half-off admission throughout the month, there’s something for everyone including visual art and design, children, science and nature, aquariums and zoos, historical sites, military, transportation, culture and heritage. And with these special savings that are only offered once a year, it’s a great time to visit both old favorites and new attractions you may not have heard of.
#SDMuseumMonth passes are now available at more than 70 libraries county-wide, participating Macy’s stores or when you book a stay at a local Hilton.
Check out the full list of participating museums and pick-up locations here.
*Up to four guests (any age) can receive 50% off the cost of regular admission when the San Diego Museum Month is presented. Note that some museums may limit the number of visits per pass.

Macy's & San Diego Museum Council Team Up for Museum Month

As anyone with a family can atest, the museums of San Diego can often feel out of reach. Basic entry can be pricey, add the extra charge for special exhibits, and then the negotiating with the kids that it will be fun! when they feel like a 10 minute walk through is sufficient, and well, good luck getting museums in your life. Of course, you can brave the hoards on free Tuesdays at Balboa Park, but with museums closing before most people's workdays end, you're basically enjoying the arts with every stroller toting stay-at-home mom. Enter Museum Month, an attempt to make these institutions more accessible. The pass is free at any Macy's register just for the asking (I picked one up yesterday) and each pass is good for up to four admissions at half price. Below is the official (less-cynical) description of Museum Month. Bonus: Every museum month pass has a coupon for Macy's and a discount code to get an annual subscription of San Diego Magazine for only $8.

EVENT DATE: February 1-29, 2016

LOCATION: Participating museums

COST: 50% off admission with pass

Arts, entertainment and culture collide for Macy’s Museum Month in San Diego. This February the San Diego Museum Council and Macy’s have teamed up again for Museum Month, giving patrons a chance to discover what’s new at more than 40 area museums with savings only seen once a year.

Participants can pick up a Museum Month Pass at any area Macy’s store to enjoy half-off admission to all of the participating museums through the entire month of February. Plus, with 2016 being a leap year, you get an extra day to enjoy museum going.

Passes will be available beginning February 1 at all San Diego, Temecula and Imperial Valley Macy’s. Click here to find the store nearest you.

Guests with a pass can bring up to three people to participating museums to receive half-off admission for the entire party. Additional fees may apply for special exhibitions. Each pass also features an exclusive $10 coupon off any $30 or more at Macy’s.

Remember to keep your pass all month long and LEAP to a few new museums!
