What I'm Reading & Watching

What did the cormorant say to the sea lion??

I have had a hell of a weekend. We went snorkeling, chilled out, hung out for my dad's 71st birthday, and I thought it would be low-key and I would get ahead of email and social posts for work and get caught up when, BAM!, I got a FINAL NOTICE from Photobucket that they're switching to a subscription based model and all photos over their free limit would be deleted by Monday, September 9th. I wouldn't have noticed, to be honest, because my original account is linked to an email that is just chock-full of spam which I never read. So I missed months of such notifications. However, I had a second account affected, too, which is when I took it seriously. More of my woe-is-me  tale after the jump (and actual stuff I'm reading and watching)

Rosey's Read & Watch List

St. Vincent in San Diego 1.27.2018 - GRAMMY winner a year later

Like so many people pondering Facebook these days, I was wondering if I'd be better off reverting back to the days when all my whims and thoughts were shared here on sddialedin.com instead of on Facebook or social media in general. I love getting Voice of San Diego's weekly review and so I started kinda bookmarking some things I've been reading and noting what I've been watching. I don't know if I'll keep doing it here, but for today, this is what I'm gonna do. In all honesty, I've been stewing on a post like this for a few weeks (months?), but my keyboard is finally fixed, I got a new power cord for my laptop, so my excuses for not writing are diminishing. All of it after the jump.

What I'm Watching: If You're Not In The Obit, Eat Breakfast | Downward Dog | Radio Dreams

I got a really positive response to my last post about my indulgent television habits, so I've decided to do another post. The main seasons of shows seem to be on pause until summer series drop or the full schedules return in fall, so there's this horrible glut of game and talent shows right now which maybe aren't so bad if you fast forward all the bullshit backstories with DVR, but I don't have that function so I just have to dig deeper. Still, there were a few things that caught my attention in the past couple weeks (besides San Diego City TV of course...some of those Council meetings have been pure comedy fire!) Check it after the jump.

What I'm Watching: The Handmaid's Tale, The Hunt for the Wilderpeople, "You've Seen This Before, We Know", Career Suicide

I've mentioned more than a few times that I vacillate between being obsessed with politics and burying my head.  One minute I'm reading about what stupid thing the piece of shit in the White House, and the entire Republican House, for that matter, is doing to sell off our country to the highest bidder, and the rest of the time I'm just trying to hide from it all. When I'm not out at shows, I'm ass on couch, worming down the daily 300 emails I get while parked in front of the TV with some mind numbing nonsense on in the background (Naked and Afraid, any Housewives franchise, Escaping Polygamy, to name a few). In my hiding from politics, I've watched A LOT of television, and I think I've mentioned I've read more books this year than I had in the last twenty years combined.

The other night, I was desperate to find something to watch that wasn't Housewives. I'd already caught up on Last Week Tonight and Chelsea Handler and my other regular go-tos, (I'm kinda over Bill Maher's islamophobia and sexism, but still watch anyway),  and disappointed that the Paste list I usually use seems to just have the same movies on the month after month, I found this list by Den Of Geek. And so it was that I watched The Hunt for the Wilderpeople. I thought I'd share with you this and other things I've been watching lately, and maybe you'll let me know what else I'm missing? More after the jump.

Happy Valentine's Day

I have confessed to you on numerous occasions that I watch a lot of television. One of my favorite new comedies is Happy Endings, which airs on ABC on Wednesday nights. Actually, it is part of a pretty solid comedy block (The Middle, Suburgatory, Modern Family, Happy Endings) that leads into Revenge (which is going to be sooo good this week because they finally reveal what happened to Daniel the night of the engagement party). I'm rarely home for primetime TV, however, so it's nice that you can view most of ABC's shows on Hulu, on the network's website, or On Demand.

Anyway, in honor of Valentine's Day, I thought I'd share last week's episode because if you can't relate to the "break-up window", well, you have a better dating track record than me. It's also pretty great how the show embraces the comparisons to Friends. I don't know if my age allows me to relate more, or if I'm just glad there's not a character as annoying as Ross, but I think you should really check out the show if you haven't already.

Conor Oberst "Lua" Late Late Show

I turned to CBS as Craig Ferguson was thanking Conor Oberst and his band. Boo. But some kind (and kinda funny) soul uploaded the video 52 minutes ago. The person just video-taped their tv, which I think kinda gives a cool lo-fi version of the song. I'm sure tomorrow the actual video will be available, but until then, here's a video of the tv.
