CoViD-19: Is San Diego Sliding To Purple Tier? | Pandemic Fatigue Sets In Worldwide | There Aren't Always Two Valid Sides To Every Story
World Okapi Day (Taken at San Diego Zoo Safari Park 11.11.2019)
Today was a really nice day. The weather has been perfect this weekend after a crazy hot summer and it was nice hanging out in the yard today. We watched some of the #SOSFest on YouTube, Darren is happy because he can finally play guitar again after hurting his shoulder last week, and the animals are all happy that the plumber is done and gone. I talked to my mom today so we'll be heading down to Chula Vista to help her with a Costco delivery she's expecting in the morning. I think I've got some Housewives to catch up on so I'm just gonna leave today's stats and I'll be back tomorrow per usual, with the Governor's briefing.
California COVID-19 Stats:
2,862 New Cases/867,317 Total Cases 0.3% increase)
44 New Deaths/16,943 Total Deaths (0.3% increase)
2.5% 14-day test positivity rate
San Diego County Stats
State Data:
201 New Cases/51,986 Total Cases
3 Deaths/853 Total Deaths
7.2 cases/100k population (Based on week ending 10/3, Assessed on 10/13. Unadjusted Case Rate Using Linear Adjustment)
3.5% Test Positivity (Based on week ending 10/3, Assessed on 10/13)
5.7% Health Equity Positivity (Based on week ending 10/3, Assessed on 10/13)
If you recall, on Friday the County held a special media briefing to warn San Diego that we could be sliding back into the purple tier. If you also recall, I was using the wrong numbers when trying to pre-assess the County's numbers per 100k because it's based on illness onset, not by positive test result dates. But today's test positivity was 373 new cases, which is nearly double what we need it to be to move into less restrictive tiers. I'm not saying we're gonna go purple, but it isn't looking good. We're definitely on the uptick with cases once again. Remember, we have to be purple for two weeks before we slide back, but it doesn't seem like we're too far away from getting there.
As the Coronavirus Surges, a New Culprit Emerges: Pandemic Fatigue: Exhaustion and impatience are creating new risks as cases soar in parts of the world. “They have had enough,” one U.S. mayor said of her residents.
This is an old Bill Maher clip from February 2019 that I remembered and dug up today. Even more relevant today than then:
And this is the very first time Beastie Boys have ever licensed a song for commercial use. As Tim Pyles said, you could easily swap this guy for Tim Mays and the Casbah.
