Mandazzi Dreaming About His New Family (Taken 10.1.24) |
I guess last week's diary post got away from me, so I decided to make sure it gets posted before I dive into this week's listings. Things have been pretty good, I had a birthday but had to work, so we kinda sprinkled in some fun over the past couple weeks to compensate. My brother came to town, so we had a big family dinner at Miguel's Cocina, I worked at the Clairo show and Darren and Toby were able to use the tickets that Jeff bought for me, and my family went to the El Cajon Oktoberfest on Sunday. I'm trying to do as much nighttime zoo as possible, but it's only on weekends, so I have to fit it in where I can. I'm bummed I didn't make it to Damien Jurado on Monday, but I got caught up making a big dinner and by the time that was all done, it was too late to commit. Like a lot of people, I have been obsessed with the Menendez brothers, so over the weekend I watched Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed on Peacock, and then I watched the new Netflix documentary, The Menendez Brothers. I attempted to watch Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, also on Netflix, but it was so bad I only got through one episode. It's interestingthat that the Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón had a press conference on Monday, the day the new Netflix movie dropped, to say they would 'reevaluate' the convictions. It's all fascinating to watch unfold.
Besides all that, I'm presently working for Clikatat Ikatowi at the Casbah and it is nuts to butts in here. I'll also be working at the Unwound show on Friday, and the Mo Lowda show on Saturday, both at the Quartyard. I hope everyone has a great week.
Stay safe out there.

- ZOO GOSS:
- Many of us knew since spring that 22 year old gorilla silverback, Mandazzi, would be leaving to another zoo, where some females are ready for him to start his own troop, but it appears that day has finally come. He was out on habitat on Monday and was not on Tuesday. Naturally, everyone is going to miss Mandazzi, not least of all his brothers, but we wish him safe arrival and a beautiful future at Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas, if in fact, this is goodbye.

- California's new gun safety laws will…
- Protect people from racist, homophobic, and other hate-based gun crimes—by focusing law enforcement and courts on warning signs like threatening violence against identity-based groups.
- Stop traumatizing young people with school shooter drills by prohibiting shooting simulations and allowing parents to opt their kids out.
- Create the best secure firearm storage law in the country, requiring that all households use the strongest measures to store firearms away from children.
- Keep guns from more people who shouldn't have them, like those convicted of animal cruelty.
- Inform the public and lawmakers of which firearms dealers are breaking gun safety laws.
- Destroy crime guns to ensure they're not resold as parts.
- Make sure it's clear that carrying a gun around a polling place is illegal voter intimidation.
