I'm not sure if you have been watching "The Newsroom" on HBO, but this week there was a line that stuck out in my brain. It's when Mac, the News Night producer reacts to Brian, an outside reporter doing a news story about the show with whom she had cheated on Will, the News Night anchor. Brian is accusing Will of being hubris driven and making a proposed Republican debate about himself instead of the candidates. Mac reacts. "You know what I love about Will? He's not absolutely sure about anything. He struggles with things. He's never certain he's right and sometimes he's not, but he tries hard to be. He struggles with things." I know the show has its critics, but I enjoy the idealized portrayal of media "on a mission to civilize".
Sometimes in real life, our politicians actually break party lines, and today's ad, released by the Human Rights Campaign and Right To Marry, makes me proud of our mayor.
And just in case you needed a little reminder of how our Republican mayor came to his position...
I originally posted this photo on my site on November 22, 2008. At the time, I was unfamiliar with the Mission Gathering, but appreciated their billboard posted in the heart of North Park. A little more than three years later and I've worked with and become friends with the Mission Gathering community and even hosted a show at the Irenic. In light of the fact that the 9th Circuit Court in California struck down Prop 8 as unconstitutional, I thought I'd repost the most viewed photo I've ever posted on this website. I'm proud to be a Californian. Though it's maddening that voters passed prop 8 in the first place, and though we know the court's decision will be appealed, Wednesday was a good day for civil rights in California.
In light of the California State Supreme Court upholding Prop 8, I found this video of local musician Rhythm Turner of Rhythm And The Method and thought it should be shared.
I must confess that I have honestly never met Seth Combs whose birthday we were on hand to celebrate when we drove down to San Diego Saturday for the Ruby Room show. In fact I don't even think I met him that night. So I will take this chance to wish him a very happy birthday and to thank him for having an event designed to protest the most inhumane prop h8. Charity usually means that you drink a little more than you would during regular shows. That combined with so many good friends and so little will power equates to a VJ set with a bit more improv than normal. Good thing it worked. We had such a great time at this event. Meeting Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra was eye opening and I would put them on the MUST SEE list. Only Pauly from Rocky IV had a better relationship with his robot. McFlow was definitely good but how bout a round for the VJ's who lit up your set on the fly? Well, maybe next time. Ruby Room staff - big ups as they say for helping us so much at load in and throughout the night!

The California Supreme Court will hear oral arguments challenging Prop 8 on March 5th. The outcome of this court case will not only determine whether Prop 8 is recalled and the right to civil marriage for same sex couples is restored, but will also decide whether the 18,000 loving and committed same-sex couples that were married last year will have their marriages invalidated.
To remind the California Supreme Court of what the path of equality demands, the evening of March 4th has been declared an ‘Eve of Justice.’ At court houses in cities across the state rallies and candle light vigils are being held so we can send a strong message to the courts that we want our equal rights back and we are asking them to rule on the side of love.
San Diego will have a community rally with speakers and singing converging on the Hall of Justice at 330 W Broadway, San Diego CA 92101 from 4-6pm . A candle light vigil will then line the streets of Downtown San Diego Starting at 6pm. The event is being jointly organized by Marriage Equality USA, San Diego Alliance for Marriage Equality (S.A.M.E.), and San Diego Equality Campaign (S.D.E.C.).
Bring your friends, family, loved ones... and of course bring your candles, your signs, and your American and Gay pride flags to encouraging the courts to save the 18,000 couples' marriages and to rule on the side of love, justice, and equal rights for all.

It had been brought to my attention that my Google Ads have been serving up "Yes On Prop 8" ads. I am working on filtering those ads, but wanted to make it clear that I vehemently oppose Proposition 8.
FYI, I'm not the only one having problems with these ads...even blog giant TechCrunch was having a hard time filtering them. The funny thing is the article says that if you click the ad, it actually goes to a No On 8 website. As my friend said last week, maybe it's better that they blow their money on sites like mine, because my readers should know where I stand on this issue, and if not, I've posted about it here. Also, Lucas, a newly anointed SD:Dialed In contributor has been quite busy with election stuff and working for the Courage Campaign, has a great No On 8 diary entry on The Daily Kos:
I'm sick of the lies, I'm sick of the blackmail of my local small businesses, I'm sick of this being considered a remotely appropriate level of political discourse, and most of all I'm sick of being told that people are not created equal.
