Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, March 28- Wednesday, April 3, 2024: Mike Doughty | Marnie Stern | Mary Timony | Skating Polly | Victoria Canal | Andy Frasco & The UN | The Vices | Melissa Etheridge | Torres | Adi Oasis | Madi Diaz |

Listings are done. I don't have a lot to say except there are some great shows this week. With Easter and family and all the things, I don't know how much I'll be out, but I will be working the Adi Oasis show on Tuesday at Quartyard, so say hi if you're coming by. Full listings this week are after the jump.

Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, December 14-Wednesday, December 20, 2023: QOTSA | Grateful Shred | Emo Nite | TV Girl | Ziggy Shuffledust | Swive | More Fatter | Holiday Ramble |

I am sooo looking forward to the weekend to try and recover from my trip, spend some chill time with my visiting relatives, and enjoy the Casbah's holiday brunch on Sunday. I was able to hit the San Diego Zoo on Thursday to see all my babies that I missed so much. I got a little love from the gorillas before they went in, Karen the orangutan sat with my while I worked on my laptop, even little Kaja popped over to say hi. It was nice and empty, so I had the run of the place and also visited the gray parrots, Andean bears, my favorite langur, the red panda, the snow leopards, the red-tailed and swamp monkeys and more. There's a new binturong at Explorer's basecamp, but the tamandua is gone. If you are a take-pictures-with-Santa kinda person, there has been a line on weekends but on most days you can literally walk right in with no wait. It's kinda shocking actually. I've shaved a lot of time off how long the listings take with this new laptop, but I still had to do a newsletter and go through a zillion emails so I am fried. Have a great weekend, stay healthy, and when you hear all the people hacking around you, get as far away as you can-- they probably have COVID but many people don't even bother testing for it anymore, so steer clear.
I love you.

Rosey's Diary & Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, December 14, 2023: Sego | Coastal Wolves | Zoltan Kaszas | La Diabla | Meg McRee | Strung Out |

Sister Claudia, My Mama, Nadia, Jojo, Uncle Willy, & Me. Christy took this one.

So, I really was not realistic at all when I went on this little trip for the past few days. I haven't flown anywhere since 2016, and I forget how much time I really end up sitting around talking with family, riding in cars, or driving and seeing scenery and how much time I am NOT online, or at least, not able to use my laptop. (Email is still amazing anywhere, anytime, except when I'm driving, of course.)

We left San Diego on Saturday at 6:30am, which made me wake up at 3:45am to be ready to go. Of course I don't really sleep on planes, so by the time we landed in Chicago and walked all up the Miracle Mile or the Magnificent Mile or the Millionaire Mile or whatever it is really called along Lake Shore Drive and then back to our hotel, I was zonked. But this was a girls trip for that part of the weekend, so I was with my mom, my sisters and my nieces, at the W, known for having Djs in the lobby and being a destination on weekends and, let's just say the no sleep week continued. Beyond going to Millennial Park to see The Bean (which is now behind security fences because, as the street vendors told us, "los jovenes") and Christmas stuff, I have to say it was all kind of a bust. I was in Chicago but by no means did Chicago. That was the theme for this whole trip, actually. Not that I didn't enjoy family time and seeing new things, but I didn't pack in what I would do if I had my say in all of it. Or any of it, really.

On Sunday, we left Chicago to drive to South Bend and that was the day of my uncle's Surprise Birthday Party for his 80th birthday. He got all weepy and it was beautiful and beers at the Country Club were $2.50 so I enjoyed myself and also learned a bunch of stuff about my family that I didn't know before and saw pictures, like of my real grandma who died when my mom was only 2 years old, that I was seeing for the first time. That was magic.

By Sunday night, I was in party mode, drank beers and rye at our hotel while everyone slept, knowing I would be the one to stay while my sisters and nieces returned home on Monday. When it was just me and my mom and my uncle, we spent the greater part of a day at a local casino and then the next day driving around different nearby areas to eat, shop, and see Christmas lights.

I'm now on the flight home and there's no way the wi-fi can handle me doing the listings for the whole week, so I'm just doing Thursday's and I'll do the rest on Thursday. I underestimated how much time we'd spend in cars, how much time we'd be hanging out telling stories, how much time I'd spend in the kennels and among the cats of the house. I especially underestimated how much time I would be the one driving, though I guess I should be used to it with my 80 year old uncle and 70+ year old mom. I also didn't know I'd be sleeping on a waterbed for 2 nights which makes laptopping in bed pretty much impossible. So I'm sorry the listings are abbreviated but when I get home, I need space, I need drinks, I need some loving from my babies, and I don't want to be up all night working on listings because I really need to see my favorite primates at the zoo in the morning. Also, thanks to this stupid bitch that won't stop coughing with her mouth open, even though I got my booster last week and even though I wore a mask during the stagnant air parts of the flight, I'm eating and drinking and trying to get cool air, so I'll be monitoring my health and thank goodness I am a bit overstocked with COVID tests at the moment. I actually think she's coughing out loud AT me, but I'm not about to start a fight on Southwest.

Besides surprising my Uncle on his turf, we bought him a one-way ticket to San Diego to hang out as long as he wants. The last couple times were sad and for my dad's death, so hopefully this one will be more joyful. But also it means I'll probably be chauffer for at least some parts over the next couple weeks. Forgive me if you don't hear from me or if things are late or my Insta is all out of order or whatever. I gotta spend the time with these Olds while I can. xoxo

Here are Thursdays listings. I'm sorry if I missed stuff.

Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, July 27-Wednesday, August 2, 2023: Hasan Minhaj | Lucy's Fur Coat | High Vis | Guster | Earthless | The Dollyrots | Yellowcard | Fred Armisen |

It's a really good thing that I got these mostly done on Tuesday because Darren ended up with a day off of work so we were completely non-productive and didn't do a damn thing all day in the heat until a little late afternoon visit to the zoo. There's some really great stuff this week and I'll be working at both Lucy's shows so be sure to say hi! Don't forget to hit the Devo presale that's currently running, too. Full listings after the jump.

Things To Do in San Diego: Wednesday, July 19-Wednesday, July 26, 2023: Comic-Con Edition : Heartless Bastards | Jimmy Eat World + Manchester Orchestra | Cordovas | Califone | COMIC-CON EVERYTHING!! |

OH MY GOD!! I did it. I usually compile my Comic-Con stuff in the weeks preceding the event, but since I skipped the past couple years, and with the SAG-AFTRA/Writers Strikes, everything has been a little up in the air. But I did it. I'm sure I didn't get everything, but I did my best. And I linked to other local guides, per usual. I hope everyone has a magical week, CCI or not, I still got all the regular local shows and stuff together, too. I love you all. Be safe out there!

Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, June 22- Wednesday, June 28, 2023: Delicate Steve | FACS | Semisonic | OB Street Fair | Glass Spells | Louise Post (Veruca Salt) | Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam | Pedro The Lion | SCOTS | Fools & Fables |

This happens to me at least once a year...I start doing listings and then while I'm working on them, hit the wrong key or something and delete all my work. Thankfully I only did part on Tuesday before deleting it all on Wednesday morning, which was enough for me to put the laptop away and go enjoy the Summer Solstice and all the crepuscular animals at the zoo. Then I came home and everyone went to bed early so I was able to focus and get them done while watching old 48 Hours murder shows. I'm sorry for last week, apparently I missed a whole bunch of stuff because I failed to check my calendar, where I make note of events that aren't in the usual listings, like the Bro-Am. Whoopsie. Looks like turnout wasn't lacking because I failed to post, but I double and triple-checked this time and hopefully got everything.

We're officially in summer 2023 and all you who were wishing away May Gray and June Gloom are gonna get your wish and we haven't had a chance to fix our air conditioner yet, so that will be fun to navigate. My plan is to just not be home as much as possible and leave the air on in the bedroom for the pets. Hopefully it's not too bad too soon, but I guess I won't be making a trip back to The Living Desert any time soon.

I hope everyone is doing well. I haven't done my usual diary posts because Nova's out for the summer and you know where I'm at pretty much all the time, so maybe no news is good news? After my shitty spring of loss and travel and funerals and memorials -- though lots of good family time was had in the midst of all that -- I'm just happy to be low key and doing my thing. It was nice to get some merch gigs, and even though one of them was pretty much the worst I've ever worked, it still got me back in the groove and I'll hopefully get back out into the music world at some point, but I'm loving Nighttime Zoo and late night Sea World hours and I've realized my tolerance for long shows has been hindered dramatically. Like 20 minute sets are just fine in my book. Watch, shoot, leave, sleep.

Like I said, I'll get back into it eventually. Especially with so many great shows coming up.

All the listings after the jump.

Things To Do In San Diego: Thursday, April 27-Wednesday, May 3, 2023: Dawes | Nude Party | Backseat Lovers | Adams Avenue Unplugged | Art Walk | Taco Fest | San Diego Book Crawl | Cheese Expo | Encinitas Spring Street Fair |

Over the past several weeks the pandemic couldn't feel further away. But nothing really screamed "It's Over!", it just sorta fizzled. The government declared the end of the emergency. There's no data. We rarely hear of someone we know testing positive. And to be honest, when I drove to New Mexico through Arizona, it was clear those places hadn't been using any protective protocols for months. But doing the listings today? WOW. I am not saying COVID-19 is gone or over, but it is very clear we have completely moved on. There's SO MUCH going on this weekend - San Diego Book Crawl, Taco Fest, Adams Avenue Unplugged, Cheese Expo, Lilac Festival, ArtWalk, Encinitas Street Fair...even the Rodeo! And that doesn't even touch all the concerts and regular stuff. I'm gonna try and spend the weekend catching up on life, try and beat this run-down feeling, and start going through the things we were supposed to do when my dad died by my mom didn't know how to open and forward her email...obituaries and uploading photos and creating a leaflet for his funeral and all those really unfun and hard things that we've all been avoiding. But I'm hoping to hit some street fairs and such, too. Because I'll need to get some air even if Darren is working all weekend. Sorry these are late, I didn't have it in me to pull an all-nighter.

Stay safe out there.

Things To Do In San Diego: Wednesday, January 18-Tuesday, January 24, 2023: Spiral Stairs | Blind Boys of Alabama | Mapache | Unwritten Law | Emo Nite | The Trebels | Hibou | Macy Gray | Stones N Roses | Alexa Villa | Elise Trouw |

I was in the middle of a regular post when I realized it was time to do listings so I powered through and got them done even though I very easily could've been in bed by 9pm on Tuesday night. The regular post will have to wait a day. I had a really great week -- on Thursday we got to go to the media party for The Sound, which was super cool and spacious and looks like it's going to be a great place for concerts, though don't let the seating chart dissuade you, the balcony is much closer to the stage than indicated on the map

Having four sold out nights in a row at the Casbah on a three day weekend let me actually enjoy my weekend - I bounced around Sea World and the Zoo and went to La Jolla Cove and did some shopping and did my thing all weekend long; Darren's weekend shifts were cut due to the crazy ass weather, and after having to drive to Chula Vista in that weather to help out my parents, I was toast and didn't make it to Transfer on Saturday night. We'll just have to book them again soon, right?

Darren did work at the park on Monday, so I spent the whole day at Sea World for their Inside Look weekend which was pretty cool, but naturally Tuesday was a beast for work coming off that long weekend. I still got my zoo walk in, and Darren started a new additional part time job that allowed him to come meet me after. I'm excited to talk about that but I'll wait until he's locked in before I spill the beans. I'll just say that I texted him in the middle of the day to ask how it was going and he responded, "I found my new calling." Love that.

So listings are done and I want to go to a couple shows this week, but we'll see how the weather abides. Since I won't drink and drive, not even a sip, and have sworn off ever using Uber or Lyft ever again if I can avoid them, getting out and around is a little bit logistically challenging and takes a lot more motivation and planning. So no guarantees. But at least I have the Zoo.

If this rain continues and you've discovered that all your umbrellas are missing or broken (as I did), the Big Lots in La Mesa has a ton, plus rain ponchos for only $1.19. I hit up about 15 stores all over San Diego, so trust me on this. That's the spot.

Stay safe out there.

Rosey's COVID-19 Diary: Welcome To COVID Mania!

Mani the Tamandua and San Diego Zoo Explorers Basecamp (Taken 6.6.22)

What a day. I was in a place earlier today, so I want to write briefly because my day got so much better. I'll tell you all about it after the jump.

CoViD-19 San Diego Counts 45 New Community Outbreaks in 5 Days | Phantogram to Play Virtual Cali Love Festival | Oceanside Launches Inaugural Culture Festival Virtually

Elephants at San Diego Zoo Safari Park (Taken 10.10.2020)

One of the benefits of alcohol is that those "lowered inhibitions" can also be revelatory. I was so stressed out yesterday and so while Darren and I were hanging in the speakeasy we talked and talked and figured out a solution for dealing with this unforeseen bathroom remodel and then today he totally cleaned the studio so our disruption won't be so invasive and I feel a million times better about it.
Today while watching the Seahawks v Vikings game (I've ended by boycott of the NFL in light of the evolution of their BLM stance which is far from perfect, but change is good,) they played Phantogram as bumper music and it made me realize that I forgot to share about the Cali Love Fest, and then Lou Niles sent me info about the Oceanside Culture Fest which is coming next weekend, so that's below, too.
Lastly, I know we all have COVID-fatigue, but cases are seriously increasing all over the world and starting to uptick in San Diego. Don't let your guard down because none of us are getting compassionate use of any 'miracle' cures.

COVID-19: Scott Lewis Is Pissed About Reopenings | County Health Requires Sign-In At Indoor Businesses | CA Legislature Ends Session With Loads of Bills | Photos: La Jolla Cove

This little pup walked right over to us while we sat on a ledge about 7 feet up from him (Taken 8.31.2020)

It's no secret among my family and friends that I'm bossy. I like things the way I like them, and if I don't like the way someone is doing something, I'm generally not shy about letting them know. It's why we're probably pulling Nova from soccer; they just can't seem to follow the rules and are telling us our season is proceeding to start on October 3rd, which is absolutely bonkers.
With coronavirus, this means constantly correcting: "stop touching your face", "take your mask off from the ear straps, not the cloth part", use your elbows, arms, or feet when you have to push or pull something. When we do go to public spaces like the Zoo or Safari Park, we're adamant about not touching surfaces at all. We make sure to go to the bathroom at home to minimize the need to use public ones, and when we must use them, we keep our masks and goggles on. We don't touch railings. We're constantly hand-sanitizing or hand-washing. So I'm not surprised to find that research is showing that the novel coronavirus can last on surfaces for a few days and longer when the temperatures start to drop. It's not super concerning in Southern California but it's certainly going to affect the country through the fall, especially if people are less diligent than we are. And it should be noted that it doesn't speak to the transmission from fomites which is still unknown, just that the risk is there.
Today was the first day of my birthday month (ha!), which means more email today than usual. It's after 10pm and I still haven't even gotten to my second email account, though I was a little distracted watchingl the last few episodes of World's Toughest Race. It is cheesily inspiring and makes me want to go on a hike, though we haven't done much of that because the few times we did, nobody was wearing masks and the trails are busier than ever, but we just got season permits for a hike that is limited to 50 people a day, so hopefully we can do that soon and often. If anyone has any secret spots they love, I'd love to hear them.
Nova's second day of school was mostly okay, though she has to learn time management and how to take criticism because she had a meltdown when a teacher told her that her work wasn't up to par, something she is definitely not used to. Her school reported 95% connectivity/attendance for the first day and it went up to 98% on the second day, so that's pretty good news. Anyway, first of the month means a ton of news and long reads today. All after the jump.

San Diego Venue Livestreams | Drive-In Concert | Inside Lands | Country Sway

I've resisted doing a livestream calendar because there were just too many across the web, but since more local venues are jumping into the game I thought I'd try to start. Some of them are live at local venues, some are ticketed with portions of proceeds going to the venues, and some are just bigger events that I thought I'd include, including an actual drive-in concert at Westfield North County. I know Bar Pink and Space were also doing some livestreams, but I didn't see anything for this week. I'll update if I find more that are relevant to San Diegans and regular readers of this site.

COVID-19 County Clears Investigation Trigger But Remains On Monitoring List For Others | Del Mar Steps Up Mask Enforcement (San Diego Should, Too) | San Diego Music Is Alive

Cheer up, sleepy cheetah (taken 8.5.2020)

Darren and I watched this interesting documentary called "There Are No Fakes" on Amazon about counterfeit paintings of contemporary Native artist, Norval Morriseau, and a deep dive into how many people went to extremes to make money off of him. It gets pretty dark and intense but it is very enlightening. Today was a pretty chill day for us. We went to the San Diego Zoo in the late afternoon. I realized that when I get super annoyed by entire families of tourists unmasked there are enough spots to duck into that aren't as popular, like the aviaries or fern canyon where I know they won't be. Unfortunately we keep missing the new lemur twins so I'll have to suck it up and do a morning session one of these days. I watched today's County briefing and finally made it through all my first inbox of emails but I'm gonna shut down and watch a movie now because I am wiped out. All the news after the jump.

COVID-19 Updates | Venues In Crisis | SD Workforce Partnership Supports Unemployed | Betsy, The Idiot | CDC Thinks Humans Have Any Sense

Nova at open skate at Derby United (7.28.2020)

Well, I told you on Monday that I was feeling revitalized and rejuvenated after a weekend (mostly) without my laptop working. I'm so happy with all the changes we've made on our deck and our studio and the backyard, and we (finally) sucked it up and bought a weed whacker so Darren went to town on the yard and it looks fantastic. It would be awesome if we had a lush green lawn, but I think it's impossible in Normal Heights. We had a fun night in the speakeasy and after a disagreement about the necessity of holding onto CDs, I dove into some of my 90s and early 2000s CDs and rocked out to make my point. I spent the majority of Tuesday sitting on our balcony, enjoying the sun and so glad we're finally taking advantage of this underutilized space instead of just storage and one singular chair. I was definitely having one of those days where every time I tried to start working or check Facebook or get through email, I would last about 3 minutes before I'd have to shut it down. So it pretty much took all day and night to get through all the things. We did get to take Nova to Derby United, the new name for the new facility and organization fka Derby Dolls San Diego and she had a blast on skates. The facility is completely outdoors and everyone has to wear masks the entire time they're on grounds with no more than 15 people allowed per session, so it felt really, really safe. I wish I could say the same about her soccer, which seems to be dropping their standards pretty quickly. , so  the Today's news (and catching up with the weekend), after the jump.

COVID-19 San Diego Updates | Weekend Streaming | Protecting Teachers | AOC Rocks

African Penguin (Taken 6.28.2020)

So sometimes it really is all about positive mental attitude (and a little 5-HTP doesn't hurt). I made myself sleep at a somewhat normal hour even though there had been a lot of Friday napping already, but it meant I woke up bright and shiny at 6am ready for a new day. I read a lot, did some organizing and cleaning, and made myself a killer brunch. By that time, everyone else was up and we tackled the yard (butting heads at times) but I love the way it looks after a few hours of work, and it also made me want to go buy a bunch of plants to add, though I also came to the realization that without raised planter boxes, a food-producing garden probably isn't in the cards for this yard, and if we added raised planter boxes, we'd lose the bulk of the yard for our sporty activities.
Anyway, all of this to say that I'm in a much better mood today and we're gonna check out the San Diego Zoo and see what the crowd is like. (Update: I messed something up, so this didn't publish earlier, but the Zoo was way too crowded for us based on the line still going in, so we drove through Balboa Park, Little Italy, the harbor, downtown, then returned to North Park to get my laptop which is still not fixed, so I may be offline for a day or two until I get it sorted.)

COVID-19 Masks Are REQUIRED Statewide | California Surpasses NY In Total Cases | Burger Records Folds | Disney Closes "Eating and Drinking" Loophole

Sea Lion at Boomer Beach/La Jolla Cove (Taken 7.20.2020)

I was feeling productive today. I finished reading The Down Days. I (mostly) stayed on top of my email, an almost always impossible task. I handled some Casbah stuff in announcing the Twitch Livestream with Scary Pierre happening on Saturday night at 8:30. I happened to look on Facebook at the right time and this awesome woman listed a picnic table and chairs on my local Buy Nothing group, so she kindly chose me and we went to her house, loaded it up in the van and brought it home and unpacked it. (It often helps to say you're available for immediate pickup.) I watched the full Governor's and San Diego County media briefings. And then I took a peaceful, quiet, restful long nap. Feeling dreamy.
After watching everything, one thing I will say though is that I don't know how I missed that facial coverings are now MANDATORY in the State. I knew it was a "guideline" and "recommended" and required indoors in certain settings, but I watch every Governor Newsom briefing and somehow I missed entirely that it became required. Anyway, I'm putting the link below because if I missed it, maybe you did, too. Or it's just irrelevant because it was already required in the County. Either way, lots of sharing after the jump.

CoViD-19 Diary | Streaming Watchlist | Music News | Finding Neowise

Cheetah Cub at San Diego Zoo Safari Park (7.18.2020)

Deep breath. So yesterday I was on a rampage, but today was a nice reset and a much more chill day. The world is still just as messed up, but sometimes you have to turn it off the best you can. So I did. Earlier this week I mentioned I spiderwebbed my phone screen and today my insurance (Asurion with AT&T) sent out a technician who fixed my phone in his van for a $29 deductible. We pay a lot for the insurance but was super impressed with the service and the guy was so nice and professional.
As I'd said in yesterday's meltdown, we didn't plan on going anywhere this weekend, but after watching too much TV, Darren and Nova nudged me to do Safari Park. It was slightly more crowded than it has been the past few visits when we do the end of the day from about 5 to 8pm, but I think the anti-maskers just aren't showing up anymore, so even though there were more people, they're all pretty respectful about masks and distance, and I noticed even if people have drinks or food, they're masking between drinks/bites if they're doing it while walking around. And both the cheetah baby and one of the lion females came right up to me at their windows. We'll probably return on Sunday.
After Safari Park closed, we decided to try to catch Comet Neowise, so we wandered. Instead of going west on San Pasqual, we went east toward Ramona and kinda just cruised around until we could find a good elevated and dark spot which was a deadend somewhere off a road called Highland Valley Road, and though I hadn't even brought my tripod, we were able to see the comet with binoculars and eventually the naked eye once we knew what we were looking for. To be honest, just being out there so remote and seeing the stars was pretty nice.
That led to a nice music-filled drive home and all of us content with our day. Darren's now playing music, Nova is asleep, and I'm catching up on Housewives and finishing this update. And we're maybe getting our ants under control with our Terro traps so gotta find the bright side, sometimes.

San Diego Music News: Pour House Renovates | Soda Bar & Casbah Offer New Merch | Bar Pink Livestreams | Switchfoot Bro-Am Goes Virtual | #StopHateforProfit

Me, Jake Najor and Tim Fears at the Office (Taken 1.28.2020)

A new phase of reopenings happened over the past few weeks, and with them new records being set on new Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths for the state. I'm seeing places I love reopen, like the Ken Club and The Office and Space and it's so hard not to just find myself wandering out any random night to catch up with my friends.
But I can't do it. I've barely seen my parents for 3 months. I've seen my sister and nieces a few times, but mostly in drivebys, and our one camping trip where we did our best to mask up and socially distance. I'm not throwing that time home away so I can go be careless to have some drinks at a bar or dinner at a restaurant. I miss my friends, I really do. I even got a new interim camera which I can't wait to adjust to and practice with, but I'll save it for the outdoor things. I'm just not ready to sit in any room breathing in the same recirculated air for any prolonged amount of time just because I want this to be over.
I was feeling pretty nostalgic, however, so I thought I'd so another local venue roundup. After the jump.

San Diego Music News: New Music From Jake Najor | Al Howard Writes | New Casbah Merch

Jake Najor (Taken 1.27.2020)

There were no media briefings today, but there were both a City Council and County Supervisors meeting. I didn't watch either. I'll pore over the deets and get back to you later, though I do know the City Council passed the resolution to add a November ballot measure to dissolve the CRB and create a new Independent Commission on Police Practices, so that's something. I'm currently trying to watch Clueless with Nova and it's so hard knowing Stacy Dash is such an awful person irl. Anyway, thought I'd (mostly) stick to some music news for today. After the jump.

Things To Do In San Diego: Tuesday, February 25-Monday, March 2, 2020

Adulting can be so hard. It was a long, busy, and fun week, but looking back, it was almost an entirely show-free week for me. I did, however, continue working from the Zoo a few times, and I'm loving that a lot. So let's recap. Tuesday I spent most of the day working from home doing listings, Wednesday I was up bright and early and went to the Zoo. I worked a lot, then went to the District 3 candidate forum in North Park, then went home and worked some more. I've been reading a great book, so I did that to fall asleep, but the anxiety and fear of missing my Thursday meetings was so intense, I stayed up all night until my 9am, 10am, and noon meetings, finally going home and crashing out and sleeping through Illiterate Light. By Friday, I was well rested, got my newsletter out, then went back to the Zoo. Nova got dropped off to meet me after and we stayed until closing, and then Friday night I worked at The Frogs show at Soda Bar. I never know what to expect with Evan, but he was in good spirits and the show was really great and they played over 2 hours. Darren met up toward the end of the show, and we all went to the Ken with friends where Curtis brought Evan and we all hung out until the bar closed. Super fun night and nice to see everyone in such good spirits. Saturday was a lazy day at home until Nova and I decided to catch the bus for a little adventure. We ended up at Fashion Valley mall, which is sooo not my world, but it was fun wandering and we finally burned a gift card we had for Cheesecake Factory on a cheesecake to go. We bused back to North Park, met up with Darren for dinner at Street Side, and called it a night. On Sunday, Nova had a friend over until soccer, which ended up being a kids vs parents scrimmage, leaving me basically unable to walk the rest of the night. I'm mostly better now, but Monday was a work from home all day kinda day and this week is busy so I'm not sure I'll get my Zoo time in. I've got a couple shows on my radar, but my projects are keeping me busy enough that I don't know which ones I'll actually get to see. Listings through Monday are after the jump.
