91X Presents Sun Fiesta at Petco Park at the Park on August 2nd

In all my commitment to be downtown for the Wonderfront announcement on Monday, I completely forgot to post about 91X's exciting announcement (though, let's be honest, this would be a really great stage at Wonderfront) about Sun Fiesta, taking place on Friday, August 2nd at Petco's Park at The Park. Side funny, if you look up Park at the Park on the Petco Park website, it explains that "The Park at the Park is a park in the Park."  That is some special marketing right there.

Anyway, I love The Head and The Heart so you better believe I'm putting this one on my calendar. Tickets go on sale Friday. For all your info and ticketing, check out the event site here. Also, The Head and The Heart posted the presale password is FIESTA, so you don't have to wait until Friday to get tickets. GA tickets come in around $40, with a base price of $29.99 and about $11 in fees, per ticket.

Photos: The Head & The Heart and Dreamers @ Soma, 4.9.17

There's no question that I love The Head and the Heart. I've lost track of how many times I've seen the band between their very first Casbah show, House of Blues, The Observatory OC, Coachella and others, but I was especially excited when they were booked in San Diego because I knew I'd be able to take Nova and Darren along for her first backstage experience at Soma. She had a soccer game that evening, we grabbed dinner, then went to Soma with enough time for a quick drink at Modern Times, then walked to the show.

I had a photo pass, which isn't super fun at Soma because there's no easy access to the pit, but once you're in, the lighting, the energy of both the band and the diehard fans along the rail make for an exciting show. It was also great catching Dreamers again and I'll probably get fired for implying they're coming back to town, but all I can say is stay tuned.

I was fully feeling both bands and just a quick funny story, after Dreamers, Nova said she needed to use the bathroom. We walked through the lobby and the line was crazy long, so we asked to use the backstage bathroom which is upstairs. Turns out we were waiting for the lead vocalist who diligently brushes his teeth while humming his songs before a set (we know this because he opened the door and did that talking with the toothbrush in his mouth thing to us), then let the other guitarist ahead of us, and Nova got to hear what vocal exercises sound like. They were super cute to her or I wouldn't mention it otherwise, and eventually we went back to our places on the side of the stage until I left to shoot. It was past Nova's usual bedtime as TH&TH came onstage, so eventually they left early. Later, I was able to find my friend Regina and bring her and her friend backstage which was awesome because she does so much for me at the Observatory even though I'm no longer employed there. Anyway, it was an amazing night and was made all the more special when we were able to hear their Coachella set on SiriusXM and think we'd only just seen them a week prior. I cannot wait for them to come back.

More pictures of The Head and the Heart and Dreamers are after the jump.

The North Park Theatre Presents The Head and the Heart- August 11, 2014

Do you know how hard it is being a blogger and a publicist at the same time? It's so hard not to get so excited and blab out information when I get it, but 'tis the way it is. And finally I can share that The Head and the Heart are coming to The North Park Theatre on August 11. Tickets will be available HERE and I can also let you know that the band's fanclub and KPRI will both have presale codes to buy tickets early. You'll have to get those on your own, however. That's the way these things work for me these days. I also posted some video from the band's first Casbah show in case you want to relive the magic.

Fresh off main stage performances at Coachella, The Head and the Heart have spent the last four years touring extensively and building a loyal fanbase. Their self-titled release took off and took the band around the world. Their sophomore Sup Pop release, Let's Be Still, dropped last October and proved they are a force to be reckoned with. Rosey's Diary: Being personal, Telemagica, Mom, and freedom from Trolls.

Last night I dreamt that I was fired from my job. I was so soundly asleep, actually, that it took me a couple hours once I was awake to come back to reality to fully realize that the job from which I was fired didn't even exist. I don't really know what the company was, but it wasn't anywhere I ever actually worked nor were the people anyone I've ever worked with, and now, hours later, I don't remember quite the details as I did when I was first waking, but it was funny because I remember being completely blindsided in my dream (as the whole office escorted me out of the building), but also completely liberated. I'm hoping it's a sign of endings, beginnings, and a wide open slate. Or maybe I was happy to sleep in after my crazy adventures yesterday.

After I wrote last week's diary post, I got a lot of really positive feedback, so thanks to all of you who reached out and commented, but there's a reason I don't get that personal on a regular basis. Do you know how weird it is to have strangers come up to me when I'm doing merch and talk about some private detail of my life? Or not hearing from my parents for a week because they already know everything I've been up to as they're now regular readers of my blog and social media feeds? And do you realize that everything is then so magnified when I actually spend time with my mom? "Did you have to use the F word? You're smarter than that. Use your words."

I was writing these diaries a lot in the early part of this year and then I stopped, but I'll rehash the past couple weeks if you're interested...after the jump.

The Head And The Heart at The Observatory, 6.4.2012

Last night, Jeff, Nate and I took a little roadtrip up to Santa Ana where The Head And The Heart, The Moondoggies, and Husky were performing at the Observatory. I told you last time that except for the crappy parking situation there, I really love this venue, and this time around was even better because we went back to the side of the stage where we were for Silversun Pickups, only this time I was literally sitting on a small partition wall with my feet on the stage. The digital lights still never read well on my camera, but I shot the whole show which you can watch below.

This is now my fifth time seeing the band (Casbah, House of Blues, Balboa Theatre, Coachella, Observatory) and they are really just phenomenal live.  There's something about 'Rivers and Roads' live that will make the hair on your neck just stand up and give you chills. At the end of high school, I remember there was this big slide show with all of these end of the year/coming of age/endless possibility songs like "These Are The Days" by 10,000 Maniacs. This song takes me back to that feeling, and by the crowd response after every time I've seen it performed, I'm definitely not the only one. Anyway, all of the videos are below in order of the setlist.

Photos: Holiday Soiree

I realized I never added these photos from KPRI's Holiday Soiree (11.30.2011). Mostly because I went at the last minute, I didn't have a photo pass or anything, and I was trying to just enjoy the show. Not my best shots ever, but here are a few pics of The Head and the Heart, Mayer Hawthorne, and Fitz & The Tantrums from that night.

The Devil Whale + The Head and the Heart @ Casbah- 04.24.11

Last Sunday the Casbah was treated to and evening of folk-rock jams courtesy of The Devil Whale and The Head and the Heart. More after the jump.

Given that they had sold out the previous evening's show in LA, chances were good that Sunday night's bill would attract a solid crowd. That a significant number of people unable to attend Saturday's show decided to make the trek down to SD for the opportunity to catch these two bands was quite unexpected. As was the case, the Casbah was near capacity before Salt Lake City locals The Devil Whale finished their set and it was shoulder-to-shoulder by the time Seattle's The Head and The Heart took the stage. Both bands share a similar sound, relying on vocal harmonies and layered melodies to carry a room-filling sound punctuated by bass and guitar rhythms and a hefty dose of good old foot stompin'.
