91X Presents Sun Fiesta at Petco Park at the Park on August 2nd

In all my commitment to be downtown for the Wonderfront announcement on Monday, I completely forgot to post about 91X's exciting announcement (though, let's be honest, this would be a really great stage at Wonderfront) about Sun Fiesta, taking place on Friday, August 2nd at Petco's Park at The Park. Side funny, if you look up Park at the Park on the Petco Park website, it explains that "The Park at the Park is a park in the Park."  That is some special marketing right there.

Anyway, I love The Head and The Heart so you better believe I'm putting this one on my calendar. Tickets go on sale Friday. For all your info and ticketing, check out the event site here. Also, The Head and The Heart posted the presale password is FIESTA, so you don't have to wait until Friday to get tickets. GA tickets come in around $40, with a base price of $29.99 and about $11 in fees, per ticket.

Loudspeaker Celebrates 30 Years & Earns "Loudspeaker Day" from The City of San Diego

91X's Loudspeaker is celebrating 30 years on the radio. It all started back in 1988 with Marco Collins and has had several hosts over the years, but on Tuesday, the City of San Diego is proclaiming 91X Loudspeaker Day at Council Chambers, and when night falls, there's going to be a full celebration at the Casbah, with music by Low Volts, N-E-1, Rob Crow, Pall Jenkins, Chris Coté, Pony Death Ride, and local karoke hosted by Scotty Pants Karaoke.

I can't say I've been listening from the beginning (I just wasn't that cool as a tween), but I definitely started listening in the Lou Niles era and through high school I'd record the show on cassette and started to get my intro to music that I couldn't see in bars. All the hosts through the years have been amazing and I am so proud of Pyles to continue carrying the torch not just on-air but all over San Diego in celebrating local music. I've heard Marco Collins is making it down for this one, so it is going to be a super special night. I hope to see everyone there.

Here's the schedule:
Low Volts 1200am
N-E-1 1110pm to 1140pm
Rob Crow 1025pm to 1055pm
Pall Jenkins 940pm to 1010pm
Chris Cote 855pm to 925pm
Pony Death Ride - 820pm to 840pm

Scotty Pants All Local Karaoke in the Razzmatazz Lounge

800pm to 820pm
840pm to 855pm
925pm to 940pm
1010pm to 1025pm
1055pm to 1110pm
1140pm to 1200am
and after Low Volts if people are still interested...

The full press release is after the jump.

X-FEST 2018 CANCELLED

Just got this in the email from 91X. Fingers crossed the DCFC find another date/venue. Here's the original lineup in case you missed it.

SAN DIEGO, CA – 91X and Goldenvoice have made the difficult decision to cancel X-Fest 2018 on Saturday, August 11th.  After considerable thought and reflection, we feel we are unable to deliver the level of experience the fans expect from X-Fest.

Tickets can be refunded at the point of purchase.

Photos: lovelytheband at Music Box, March 27, 2018

I've mentioned that the dumb little jack where my laptop charges hasn't been working, so I had a few days without any charge at all, and now even with two different and new power cables, I still need the whole thing opened up so that little jack isn't all wiggly. That said, I am super far behind in photo posts and with more and more photos just accumulating, I have to get up these pics of lovelytheband, who played the first 91X Inspired By Music show at Music Box on March 27. First, I have to say it was super fun because, as you probably know, Music Box is mostly a 21+ venue, and sometimes they will make a show 18+, but it is super rare for them to host all ages shows, so I let Darren off the hook and took Nova with me to the show.

All ages shows means a little bit tighter security, however, so when we got there the line was quite a line, but we made our way in, and she was able to get a nice little spot up front with a friend of mine and his kid who was about Nova's age. In fact, there were a lot of kids there, and especially lots of teen and tween girls. It was pretty great to watch the show through their lens, and the band engaged the fans, while addressing mental illness, depression, and self-esteem in a meaningful way. It was clear they were elated to be there, and the love was coming from the stage to the crowd and back again.

All in all, it was a super fun night and having the kiddo there made it that much cooler. We shot some video and tons more pics which you can find after the jump.

91X Announces BeerX San Diego 8.27.16

This came through the inbox yesterday and I thought I'd share in case you hadn't heard:

91X and Rockstar Beer Present "BeerX San Diego," happening Saturday, August 27 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Liberty Station in Point Loma, 2640 Historic Decatur Road.

Over 100 craft beers have been curated by organizers, and will be offered in unlimited samples to beer fans during the event.

A main stage will feature live music by bands with members who are also notable in the craft beer community, including Paul Segura, Brewmaster of R&D at Karl Strauss Brewing Company, and his band Rifftide. Additional performing bands include local favorites Zebrahead, and tribute bands Blink 180 True and Green Today.

“Beer and rock and roll have always been synonymous, and a lot of local musicians are also really skilled brewers,” 91X Program Director Halloran. “Brewing is a task done almost completely behind the scenes, so I think it’s pretty cool to bring guys like Paul Segura on stage and give them the spotlight they deserve, plus I would like to see these guys all coiffed-up onstage while we all quaff down the brews they have proffered.”

VIP tickets are available for early entry at 6:00 PM. All attendees must be 21+ years of age.

All event details and tickets available at 91x.com.

91X Releases X-Fest 2014 Lineup: May 30 at Sleep Train Amphitheatre

Sorry, kids. Got this email on Monday but haven't had a breather to post until now. As the release states, 3 more bands will be announced on April 21. Coachella ends on April 20, which certainly leads one to suspect that the three bands are Coachella acts, which really doesn't reveal much but can at least be interesting in getting your hopes up.

91X REVEALS EARLY DETAILS FOR ANNUAL X-FEST CONCERT FESTIVAL.

SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego's alternative rock station 91X officially announced this year’s “91X X-Fest,” happening Friday, May 30 at Sleep Train Amphitheatre. Performing artists include 311, Panic! At The Disco, Iration, Phantogram, Bleachers, Kongos, Skaters, Cherub, and Sir Sly.

A total of 12 bands will pack the final line-up. The remaining three bands on the bill, including a co-headlining act, will be announced on Monday, April 21.

X-Fest tickets go on-sale to the public this Friday at 10:00 AM. Listeners who signed up at 91x.com have the first opportunity to buy pre-sale tickets on-line starting today, including a limited number of tickets in section 300 for $9.91. The 91X Internet pre-sale continues until 11:59 PM Thursday night.

“The 91X team is really excited for X-fest 2014, especially because so many of the bands are fresh, up and coming talent,” said 91X Program Director Christy Taylor. “But, of course, 91X will never forget our past, and this concert is the perfect mix of what makes 91X and X-Fest staples of San Diego.”

X-Fest is produced by LiveNation. Details on the concert can be found at www.91x.com.

91X (XTRA-FM) is owned and operated by Local Media San Diego, a privately held San Diego-based company. LMSD also operates Jammin’ Z90 (XHTZ-FM) and Magic 92.5 (XHRM-FM).
