Soundcheck Live Presents: Divine Fits at Hard Rock Hotel's 207

I know I'm busy talking about SDMT this weekend, but if I don't post this now, I'll keep forgetting, sooo....

Filter Magazine and the Hard Rock Hotel have once again teamed up to bring a killer lineup of music to San Diego's greedy music snobs (I kid, I kid). This time around it will be with Divine Fits, the new project of Spoon's Britt Daniel, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade and Sam Brown of New Bomb Turks. As usual, the show is completely free, just click the flyer to land on the RSVP page. You can expect a huge turnout for this one, so get there early. The show is on October 8 with doors opening at 9pm.

If for some reason you can't click the flyer, RSVP here.

Rant: The Black Lips Throwdown

Like many people in the music community, I attended the Black Lips show at the Hard Rock Hotel's Club 207 on Tuesday night. The show was presented as part of the monthly Soundcheck series which is a coordinated effort of the Hard Rock Hotel and Filter Magazine, as well as some in-name-only sponsorships by the Casbah and Invisible Children. I was there for the Allah-Las when everyone seemed to be in high spirits, and I was near the back of the club awaiting a drink when all of the shenanigans went down during the Black Lips which resulted in the show being canceled and forcing the bar to close prematurely. In case you haven't heard what happened, you can read Peter Holslin's CityBeat blog here. After stewing a few days, I guess I have something to say about it (after the jump).

San Diego Show Announcements

Have you been paying attention to the Interwebs today? It feels like all kinds of announcements were made, like the S.S. Coachella cruises to The Bahamas and Jamaica this winter (tickets on sale Saturday).

Now, I'm not sure if you know this, but I'm the one who goes into the Casbah website to post new show announcements (and I attempt to create Facebook events for a lot of them, too), and we've had our share of announcements that I am personally SUPER excited about, so in case you missed them, here are just a few shows the Casbah has announced (click the event for ticket info):

and a few older ones for your radar in case you missed them...

It has been months since I've actually booked a show of my own, so I also wanted to let you know that I have a show on August 14 at the Casbah with Old Tiger, Lowly Spects, Western Scene, and Michael McGraw. The show is only $6 and should be a great time with some of my favorite locals (and Lowly Spects from OC).

and lastly, my friends at the Hard Rock Hotel are once again teaming up with Filter for another SoundCheck. The show is FREE on August 7 at 207. Click the flyer to RSVP.
