New Year's Eve Transportation

In my listings this week, I posted about texting for a cab by sending your address and zip code to 777222. I wanted to add more numbers and information about safe rides for New Year's Eve, a.k.a. Amateur Night.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving and Sycuan have partnered with San Diego MTS to provide FREE bus and trolley service on New Year's Eve. They've even expanded schedules for some of their more popular bus routes, including the 7, 11, 901 and all three trolley lines. You can read all the information, including bus and trolley schedules here. Note, the free service tonight is after 9pm. New Year's Day is friends ride free.

AAA (Automobile Club of Southern California) is offering its free Tipsy Tow service during the New Year’s holiday. According to their site, "The service is available at 6 p.m. Thursday, New Year’s Eve, through 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2010. Tipsy Tow is available in the 13 Southern California counties served by the Auto Club.

Motorists, bartenders, restaurant managers, party hosts or passengers of a drinking driver may call 1-800-400-4AAA (4222) for a free tow home up to seven miles. Callers simply tell the Auto Club operators, “I need a Tipsy Tow,” to receive the ride home for themselves and their vehicle. A regular Auto Club-contracted roadside service truck will be dispatched." For more information, click here (you might have to enter your zip code.) Note that the tow doesn't take additional passengers. Also, AAA membership is NOT required to use the service.

Last, there are some cab numbers you should program into your phone so they're always there when you need them.

Via text: Send street address and zip code to 777222. The message goes to Yellow Cab dispatch, you receive an instant text confirmation, and a call when the driver is a couple minutes away.

Phone numbers:

Yellow Cab 619.234.6161
Johnny Cab 619.275.5500

Online reservations:

Let's all make it safely to 2010.

Things To Do In San Diego: December 29-30 2009

Click 'keep on reading' for Dec 29-30, 2009 show archives.

I've included some New Year's listings, however I don't list every party in town. If you want the $100ticket & bottle service parties, you're reading the wrong website. If there is anything from my usual venues that I'm missing, please don't hesitate to let me know. (Soda Bar??) Additionally, several venues haven't updated their January calendars as yet, so when Whistle Stop, O'Connell's, Brick By Brick and a few others handle their business, I'll update here. Also note that a few places are closed on Friday (including Casbah and Tin Can Ale House), so double check before you head out this weekend.

Finally, I just want to say that NYE is the biggest amateur night (read: sloppy drunks) of the year. Don't drink and drive. I know public transportation in this city BLOWS and cabs are a complete ripoff, but consider the alternative (a DUI, a weekend in jail, or worse) and $30 or $40 suddenly seems like a bargain. You can make a reservation with cab companies to be in a certain place at a certain time to avoid a super long wait. You can also TEXT for a cab by sending your street address and zip code to 777222. Also consider 24 hour places you can wait safely for a cab...Santanas, Denny's, Lestat's, Rolbertos, Los Panchos...you get the idea. And not to bum you out, but should you find yourself in a legal predicament over the weekend, read up on Catdirt's DUI FAQ Pt. 1, Pt. 2, and Pt 3.

Rosey's Diary: November 2009

It's been a long time since I've really sat down to write. Things have been pretty crazy and the more I intended to catch up, the more time has seemed to get away from me. I have pictures and videos and a whole boatload of shows I've been going to in the past couple months, and before I can really get ready for 2010, it's time for me to close out the year and get some of this stuff out of my brain. So let me go back to November first and I'll work my way forward. If you're interested, 'keep on reading'.

Did I really last leave off in October? It looks like I did. There was my halloween Vegas trip and it all seems to have gone downhill from then. I had a great time on the trip for Kristian and Carrie's wedding with my best friend Sara and I wrote all about it, but don't really need to go back there now. It was a fun weekend at the Artisan hotel, met some really great bartenders there in Kevin and Gigi, and did the whole Vegas thing. For their sake, the whole photo album is here.

Photobucket

We got back from the trip on Halloween afternoon and I skipped the "holiday" entirely. Turning the corner on November, I went with Jake to see Puscifer at Spreckels and our twitter friend @kdcklein hooked us up with amazing tickets in the 3rd row. The show was interesting and though I got some pictures, in true Maynard fashion, the band was mostly silhouetted and backlit, so there's not much to post, except that it was a killer show.

The next night, I went with Jeff to see Port O'Brien at The Loft, then went to Casbah for Mumiy Troll, the "Bon Jovi of Russia" and their crowd loved them. It was interesting seeing so many Russians dancing to the music in their 80s fashions, singing along word for word to every song. Rodney was on tour with them doing sound and managing and told me how their fans are so insane, they'd wake up with roses and lipstick marks and handprints all over their bus.

Tuesday, Nov. 3 was that incredible Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

That show really left me with the feeling that live music could be ruined forever because it was such a perfect show. Fortunately that wasn't the case and I kept on to more music. There was a really great review of that show on SDNN that you should really check out.

I took a night off, then was on to 11.5, when Matt Hires played at M-Theory (which I posted here) and then up to the Belly Up to catch Sara Lov & Sea Wolf (which I also posted here). So I guess I have updated, just not to the extent that I once did.

On November 6th I made the mistake of starting the night off early with friends at the Ken Club before going to the Beauty Bar for the first of Transfer's CD release shows. I have a bunch of videos from that night on my YouTube page, but you might wanna reserve watching until Matt can actually cut up the footage. Between the crowd pushing me, the crazy lighting, and my, uh, lack of focus, the videos just aren't very good.

The next day was the November matinee Rumble, then I caught Writer's soundcheck at Subtext before I did merch for the sold out Matt Costa show at Casbah. I took a breather Sunday night in order to prepare for my 3rd Anniversary show at Casbah. It was such a great show- The Moviegoers, Lights On, and Swim Party all played tremendous sets and I think everyone had a good time...I know I certainly did. I owe the bands big time for that show.

After that I laid low, sticking around Kensington between Ponce's, Ken Club karaoke, Ken Cinema, Tao, and not really going anywhere outside of my immediate hood until Thursday night. There was two great shows nearby...The Radio Room had Rat's Eyes, Loom, Prize Country and more, while just down the street, Soda Bar had their anniversary show with bands mostly made up of their staff...Bunky, Rafter, The Deatheaters, Apes of Wrath, etc., so I hopped back and forth between the two all night long and it all turned out to be a pretty special night.

I found myself at Soda Bar the next few nights. Then on 11.15. I broke the pattern and went to the Loft for the Drums. People loved them and they had a lot of stage energy, but to me it just felt very contrived and manufactured and I was just not into it. Naturally I went back to Soda Bar.

Fortunately the next night's show at the Loft with Loch Lomond and Horse Feathers lived up to my expectations. It was also my first chance since the kitchen there has opened to try one of their cheeseboards (which I highly recommend). The show ended early enough to make it to Casbah in time for Pinback. The show was sold out and super packed, but they sounded great, as they always do on that stage.

The next night was another Casbah night to see The Hidden Cameras, who didn't seem to mind that they had a small crowd and played a really long set.

From that show, we caught Tape Deck Mountain up at Soda Bar to close down the night.

Over half the month done, bear with me because I hate having holes in my memories...

November 18 was the Peter, Bjorn and John 10th anniversary tour at House of Blues. Lights On opened the night and the crowd was really receptive to their performance which is always great to see when a local band opens for a touring band. El Perro Del Mar was up second and while she has a great voice, I have to say the chick is pretty bizarre. She was followed by Peter, Bjorn and John. Because it was their 10th anniversary as a band, they had a whistling contest, which Tim from Lights On won, so it was great seeing him come out, as well as El Perro del Mar, when they performed "Young Folks".

From that show, I went to Casbah to hang out. Municipal Waste was playing and the thrash metal band brought out every Suicidal Tendencies fan in San Diego. I have never seen so much merch at the Casbah...including sweat pants. So yeah, interesting change from the House of Blues.

My cat had been sick over the week, and sadly when I got home that night, she lay lifeless on my bedroom floor. After a bit of a breakdown, I called Todd who was so kind in coming over and moving her body for me until I could get my shit together to figure out what I was supposed to do with her. That was a long night of suck, but I am so grateful to Todd for getting me through it.

The next night I went to dinner with Jeff at Riviera and to see Little White Teeth play in the Turquoise Room. Such a good band. Seriously. Then we moved on to see Portland Cello Project and Thao & The Get Down Stay Down at Casbah. It was a great show and really crowded. This was surprising to me because the first time I saw Thao, I was one of 4 people at House of Blues to see her. Obviously she's come a long way, at least in popularity. She's pretty funny on stage and the crowd ate her up.

That kinda lead to entire weekend of craziness at Casbah. Friday night was Friendly Fires and The XX. People know that I've done some work for Casbah and I have to say it had been a while since I got so many emails, texts, and tweets asking if I had any hookups for this show. It was sold out long before the show and people were selling them at a premium on Craigs List (which makes me insane, by the way). I love The XX's record and had been listening to it incessantly and I was not disappointed with their live show. You can see all the videos I shot here, though they're all pretty dark, I think the sound is pretty decent. Friendly Fires are a bit harder for me to get into, just a bit more dancey thank I like, so I retreated to the back after a couple songs. Those videos are here.

Saturday night I helped out with merch for The Big Pink at Casbah after hanging at their DJ set at M-Theory. That show ended up selling out the day of the show which made for a fun night. I also dig on their record a lot, but their show, as much as I could see, was pretty much all fog machine. There are few things I hate more at Casbah than fog machines. The only time I've seen it done right was with Dead Confederate who also had a dozen or so white lights that could be operated by pedals so the band wasn't obscured the whole night. The Big Pink sounded great, so I didn't mind just hanging on the patio for the night.

I stuck around home on the 22nd, but ended up merching for Elefant on Monday night at Casbah. What a nice band. They all came out and introduced themselves, showed me what they had and caught up with Pyles on the patio, whom they knew from his 91X days. They had some loyal fans, too, with plenty of singalong moments. Chickrawker wrote about the show here.

The next night was another incredible Casbah night with Fanfarlo & Freelance Whales. It's hard to pick favorite performances of the year when you go to as many shows as I do...I average five to six nights a week, and sometimes can hit 2 or 3 shows in the same night...but I think this one is pretty up there. I thought Fanfarlo was great, but honestly Freelance Whales, for me, made the night. You can see the videos from that here:

Looks like I never got around to adding titles to those videos. Sorry for that. Things got super weird that week. My cat had just died a few days before, and I'm awoken from a call from my dad that my grandma died. She was 101 years old. Several of my cousins, my aunt, and my uncle, had all planned on coming out to visit her, instead they ended up being here for her funeral. We decided to leave plans as they were, so my parents still went to Vegas for Thanksgiving and my sister still took her family to visit her in-laws, so I spent the day with my friends up in Encinitas. My best friend was visiting from Chicago, so we were able to spend some time together on Friday before I helped at the Art Fag show at the Women's Club before catching Blackout Party at Casbah.

You still reading? It's cool, like I said, I just need to purge all this stuff from my brain anyway.

Saturday was a good day. I knew my family would all be coming to town soon, so I got in my time with friends and music while I could. Bob from the Casbah invited me to go to the KPRI Christmas show at The Abbey in Hillcrest. I leapt at the chance, not only because I love David Gray, but shows at The Abbey are always phenomenal, though pretty rare. Unfortunately my cab was late, so I arrived halfway through Tyrone Wells set. I was surprised that I actually dug him because I wasn't very impressed the last time I saw him. That was probably 3 or 4 years ago now, so it was nice to see the change. But in reality, I was there for David who played an incredible set. I hung out with Jordan from Tropical Depression and it was great to be with someone that is as big a fan of David Gray as I am.

After the show, we went to Casbah to catch Transit War and the place was packed, so I ended up catching a ride with Brian to Beauty Bar to see Apes of Wrath, but we missed them. Josh and Kitty came to hang out for a bit before we finally called it a night.

And finally, I wrapped up the month at the FM 94/9 Sunday free show with The Shambles CD release show on Sunday. They gave me a couple shout outs on stage, which I always love, and the crowd seemed to love all the guest performances and covers during the second half of the set.

The next day began the start of a long week with family, the wake, the funeral, and all the stuff that goes with family passing. Fortunately it wasn't all sad times and most of my family was all together for the first time in over a decade. I still got out and kicked off December in usual fashion, but that will be another superlong post for another night. In 2010 I'll try to get back to regular posting, but until then, I'll try to catch up with the rest of my diary so I can bury it all and be ready for 2010.

This is what music in Australia sounds like

Wandering around Chinatown in Sydney I found my new sound. I want to learn how to play this thing. I think you'll even see Milan wiping a fake tear from his smart ass crocodile eye. Bushwalla dug it and then Milan mocks it and then Modl looks scared.

A Look Back at 2009- "You're Not the Boss of Me."

In 2008, I started the year excited about my new album being finished. I had hoped for a little bit more momentum, but had no clue I would meet so many great people this year. I'd never talked to Kevin Hellman or Michael Halloran before (and I honestly didn't know who they were... Laugh it up...) I honestly didn't know anyone outside of Ken Leighton, Jay Allen Sanford and the people at the San Diego Troubadour. Missi was regularly spinning my stuff on Rock 105.3, Tim Pyles hit me up every once and a while, but as far as any other local contacts, I had none.

I released "Raw" in May, and with the help of some great fans, it went plastic (Or something less than plastic... paper?) But it was a start. Finally having an album out allows people to finally get to hear what you do. I started contacting local media, and asking them to listen to it. Kevin Hellman was one of the only to respond, and seemed to really like what I was doing, but like the immature musician I am, I just expected people to find me...(FYI... It Doesn't really work that way kiddos...)For more, click 'keep on reading'.

For some odd reason, it actually worked. I had received a friend request from some chick named Rosemary Bystrak, and she was posting some amusing stuff, so I think I "liked" her posts on Facebook or something... She seemed to know her way around the local scene, and was always pretty positive, so I liked her style. We ran into each other at the North Park Music Thing, and that was the beginning of good things for me. After becoming instant BFF's, she started introducing me to everybody who is anybody in the local music scene. She got Steve Poltz (my brother from another mother) to actually remember my name... this year we're gonna try to get him to actually "hear" my music... :-D. She introduced me to Mat Diablo, Chris Cantore, Seth Combs, and many other local media personalities. She asked me to blog about my midwest tour, and I was stoked. (I'd never really "blogged" before.) I joined "twitter" and started realizing the potential, and power that this website had for my music.

Aaron Bowen, Jeremy Rubolino and myself ended up winning the SDMA for Best Local recording, and it has really been great. But it instantly started something I wasn't used to. Having people tell me what I should or shouldn't be doing with my music. I'd never experienced this before, because no one really cared about me.... but now everyone sort of took it upon themselves to offer their friendly advice or info on how to get bigger. (even before they decided to see what I do live...It's cute to see everyone's suggestions before and after they watch you play...)

Lots of writing, and growing this year has helped me to realize that you don't need to listen to everyone's opinion, just do what makes you happy and stand up for yourself when people try to talk down at you. People are always going to be bitter about something or other, and as a musician, they feel like they can take it out on you. Every person I talk to has a different opinion on what I should or shouldn't be doing, but in the end, most of them haven't contributed a cent to my recording costs or gas for shows, and most of them don't even own my album... So until they start paying, I'm grateful for the advice, but have to still go with my gut.

I'm starting to work on Next Year's album, and the goal is to show people that I'm a heck of a lot more than just an acoustic singer-songwriter. (people that have come to shows probably already know that I don't just sit around crying on stage...) Erdis has been the best sidekick anyone could ever ask for on the cello, and in the last show busted out a stand-up bass solo in the middle of one of the songs... You're gonna love the band too... they are that kick-ass type of military guys who won't let me write another ballad if they can help it...

This year I'll be doing a lot more with them, which changes the sound alot. Someone said we sound like a mix between John Mayer, Foo Fighters, and a little bit of funk. If you ask me, that's a pretty ridiculous range, but that's the only feedback I've gotten so far. Playing at the Belly Up in January, and Pyles invited me to play the Casbah, but I had to pass this time around. (But I'm waiting for your next text, homie!)

Huge thanks to SDDIALEDIN.com for the support. I love you with all my heart. You've done so much for me, and I'll always be your fan!

Here's to a great 2010!!!

Do you come from a land down under?

Just landed in Sydney, Australia after a 16 hour flight. Bushwalla was on the flight with me and will be opening all the shows. My tour mgr Chris Modl was on a different plane like he was Joe Biden. Delta has great movie selections. I watched 5 flicks. Jesus Christo my eyes hurt. The French Connection, Wall Street, Citizen Kane, District 9 and Shine A Light. Gonna go to a Bikram Yoga class and then eat. Tomorrow we play The Peat's Ridge Festival and then I don't know what's happening. Perhaps I'll sleep and then go shoplifting. I love shoplifting and littering and The Chargers.

Merry Christmas!

I have so much writing and catching up to do that it is beyond ridiculous at this point, but tonight, I'm gonna leave you with two takes on Christmas...one from Gregory Page that is my favorite Christmas song of all time (and he's gonna make me take it down the second he sees that it is online) and the other a totally funny one from Steve Poltz.

Happy Christmas Eve to all...

Transfer: ~ONTO THE FUTURE~

The second leg of the FUTURE SELVES Tour brought us from sea level, (Popscene - San Francisco) to the Rocky Mountains of Denver, CO, (Larimer Lounge). “John Denver's full of shit, man” - Lloyd Christmas
San Francisco was a challenge of wits, as we fought to keep them about after a 10hr trek in the magic bus with Gengler's baked goods, only to arrive in The City with an over-thought set list and a great thirst.
Good morrow, Stellastarr*. Nice to meet you…shall we roll out the gear and see if it is satisfactory for both of us to abuse? Ah yes, very well then. Plug into our janky, road jangled tube amplifiers. The refrigerator sized bass cabinet marked CONVOY. Arthur, please be our guest to tweak the high riding stands and snare/ throne posish to your fancy. Don't mind the dried blood, spattered on the snare head. It adds a bit of dark cowboy edge.
Popscene has hosted many of our esteemed forefathers. This was brought to our attention by classic black and white photography displayed on the walls. Epic moments captured and framed. I wish I had them hung on the walls in my house to remind me to work when I feel inspiration is lost.
The crowd and hosts of Popscene were quite gracious. A very special thanks to Aaron Axelson at Live 105.5FM. Listen to Radio Soundcheck from 7- 10pm on Sundays. You Just might hear LOSING COMPOSURE ~or~
MY SUSPICIONS ~
Thanks Aaron!!

Spaceland was next. Ah yes, Silverlake, The hub and hierarchy of indie credibility. Birthplace of the infamous, 'I hate my dad' haircut. The place in CA you could smoke in, until recently.
This show proved to be the most challenging when we found ourselves faced with the adversity of simultaneous equipment failure. Card's pedals went out during the first song, throwing our entire plan of satanic delivery out the window. Cooper blasted his snare and rendered it useless at the very next, unplanned song as Zane returned to his piano stool and fell, ass over tea kettle, on the stage, garnering a massive applause from the crowd. Kudos to Zane for providing a very classic moment for all to enjoy. We all had a brief, yet cheerful celebration on stage, and with the crowd, as we discovered our loving spoonful of admiration for Zane's unique ability to eat a large slice of humble pie with a smile.
Just when we thought we were out of the woods…last song of the set, mind you, the legs fell off the keyboard, mid song, and slammed to the ground. FREEZE At this moment, as a musician, you have a choice. Your first option would be to sit there with your thumb up your ass and look stupid. OR, you could shrug your shoulders and try to put the instrument upright again, turn beat red and act like nothing happened. Or, my personal favorite, (and what Zane actually did.), Fall on the ground next to the keyboard and slam on it like you meant to summon its final sound for the epic crescendo you have created. Honestly, I had a flash of a moment where I tried to rationalize smashing everything on stage into a thousand pieces, like a possessed mongoloid. What a primal urge the Who must have fulfilled when they destroyed their instruments like a band of heathens.

We drove home that night and got to sleep in our own beds, only for a moment as we had The Casbah show, followed by the Rhythm Room in Phoenix the following night with Denver, CO and the Larimer Lounge looming in the distance. And when I say distance, I'm not fucking exaggerating. We all felt like veal calves after being folded up in the van for so long. Phoenix, AZ to Santa Fe, by way of Flagstaff. We were fortunate enough to thread the needle between storms as Flagstaff received 2’ of snow the night before. Made for a sketchy drive, to say the least.
Although Denver was a beautiful site, we realized we were quite far from San Diego once we saw the temperature drop below 2 degrees, which was uncharacteristically cold, we were told by the natives. Met some friends of friends and sold the last CD copies of FUTURE SELVES that we had brought with us. One of the rare occasions for traveling musicians where it is a GOOD feeling to know that your seed has been left behind. ZANG!
Grow for us, the saplings of musical fancy, into bold, beautiful trees. Bear the fruits of our musical labor to share and celebrate with us as we trek across the land, smelling of Gardettos and body odor.
Fan our fires that lead us through the darkness of obligatory alcoholism and financial instability as we carry forth on our mission to proclaim our message. The message carried forth for ages by our forefathers of Rock and Roll. The very greats that have left a stamp in our hearts and minds as Genius, or Inspired. The ones who have generated a spirit and religion where the sole directive is to share a moment where music transcends space and time.
Thank you for keeping the fire burning, dear friends, and a happy holiday season to all. We look forward to sharing more with you and getting to know our family a little better in 2010 as we start our journey in support of our FUTURE SELVES all over again, coast-to-coast, sea to shining sea.

Grant-Lee Phillips at Lestats, 12.13.2009

About a month ago Jeff and I were having dinner and he was filling me in on upcoming shows. We were comparing notes on who'll be touring in December and the early part of the new year to make sure we keep the good stuff on the radar, when he told me that Grant-Lee Phillips was playing at LeStat's. I believe I gave him an Elaine from Seinfeld response, "Get out!". We kinda stressed about the show, too...LeStat's doesn't have any presale tickets and it's so intimate a venue, I didn't know what to expect.

The night of the show, we planned on grabbing dinner at Blind Lady and getting in line, but when we parked, noticed that despite the website saying 9pm, the marquee now had Gregory Page opening at 8. A kink in our plans, so we ate at Tao, spending the entire meal craning our necks in hopes the line wouldn't get too crazy so we could still get a good view. In the end, we somehow scored a couple seats in the second row and were able to enjoy the incredible show. I saw Grant-Lee Buffalo years ago, and have seen Grant-Lee Phillips a few times over the years, but NEVER like this, in a quiet room with about 75 people. He played for 75 minutes and covered the full spectrum of his catalogue making for an amazing show.

Between songs he was hilarious, with banter about bottled water coming from "the land of Kirk...where is this magical place called Kirkland?" (a reference to Costco for those who might not be bulk shopping addicts), about whether or not he should take off his blazer ("50% of my sophistication comes from me wearing this coat."), and a funny bit about Oasis and how Brit bands don't sweat, among other things. The show was $15 at the door and worth every penny. I hear he's based in L.A. and plays Hotel Cafe and Largo a lot, I hope that he found a welcoming crowd in San Diego and makes a habit about playing here in the most intimate of venues.

As I mentioned, we were in the 2nd row, so some of my video has the heads of the women who sat in front of me, but the sound is so phenomenal I still want to share. I eventually switched seats with Jeff and I think those videos are more or less unblocked. I will also say, for the record, that Gregory Page opened with a nice 30 minute set and I shot him playing my favorite Christmas song that I mentioned last week as well as another song, but unlike Grant, Gregory wouldn't ok me posting them. boo. So I'm going to keep harassing him but until then, enjoy these Grant Lee Phillips videos.

Transfer Update: ROAD TEST

Road test - It always feels like that. A test of endurance, patience,
levels of tolerance...a test of organization, sleep deprivation,
direction, digestion. The things in life that are ordinary seem more
of a challenge when on tour. Time is different. You feel like a week's
worth of experiences are crammed into two days. It is very weird and I
have been trying to figure it out. This last run was the beginning of
the rest of our year and a fine set of times, completing the first
half.

Hometown shows with all the bells and whistles, or horns and strings,
(Marta, Erdis, Frank and Freddie). New team building. One show at
the Viper Room made good on a Monday then off to Seattle, WA where we
had the 7 man crew jammed in a Ford Flex, (Space toaster). Sold out
showing at the High Dive - DAMN FINE rendition of DARK SIDE OF THE
MOON, by Elder Mason closed the eve. Fucking stellar, lads! Zane lost
his mind on mushrooms and wandered off in the night as Cooper and I
lost our composure. Intense lapel negotiation just before 4am
cardboard pizza showed up to beckon the wasted sandman.

On to Bellingham where the beer flows like wine and the women
instinctively flock elsewhere. Played to the family who scream, buy
shots and jump on stage during the set, (the best part). All the
while, filling the cash registers in trade for booze with corn
husking, hard earnin, tig weldin money. Actually, I have no idea what
the occupational trend is but they drink a hell of a lot and seem
aggressive by nature.

We shall carry on with our patronage, propagate our seedlings in an
establishment with a light in the dark. Maybe some erotic photos on
the wall and a sprinkler system in case there happens to be a fire.
Thanks to all who listened to the live version of FUTURE SELVES. The
ones who took a copy home and told someone. it seems that our family
has grown and continues to do so exponentially....For this dear
friends, we thank you. This was the Washington we long for after we
leave.

Daytrotter Session: Steve Poltz

It's hard to find anyone who loves music that doesn't love what Daytrotter does for musicians and fans alike, and this week they posted a Daytrotter Session with none other than Mr. Steve Poltz.

It might be that Steve Poltz is bat shit crazy. No, on second thought, he's probably not. He's fine, just a regular Joseph. Or is he? Nope, he's fucking nuts, demented - but screwed up on endorphins and sugary cereals, draft beers and a generally harmful amount of sleep deprivation. You'll go back and forth between the original thought and the counter thought as you make your way through his all-encompassing, nine-song Daytrotter session.
-Sean Moeller, Daytrotter.com

Go to the session here. Steve will be popping up around town with a show at the bar in Oceanside that is not to be mentioned on this site on Friday, and you can usually count on him showing up at the Casbah for C.L.A. and Exile On Kettner before he takes off to Australia for a while. You can also follow his whacky brain on Twitter (@StevePoltz).

Things To Do In San Diego: December 14, 2009

For Dec 14 show archives click 'keep on reading' below. This month is flying by. I can't believe we're midmonth already and I still have stuff from October I haven't posted. What a total slacker. In all actuality, things got a little crazy with the loss of my kitty, then a week later my grandma, then Thanksgiving and my entire family out for a week of services and whatnot, and well, time just got away from me. You can always check my twitter feed (@sddialedin) and my video page (http://www.youtube.com/rosey928) to see what I'm up to.

Musically, things tend to slow down around this time of year...fewer bands tour and there's more DJ activity and holiday party action than shows, but we've still got some good stuff going on that's worth checking out. That said, I want to thank Jeff for helping me this year on this site. You may or may not know that all the Monday through Thursday listings for the past 6 months or so have been done by him. I know few people more devoted (and opinionated) on music than Jeff and he's truly been a great friend. This Wednesday is his birthday so if you see him out, buy him a Coke and let him know how much you appreciate how in depth he looks to find all the best music coming to keep these listings going.
