I have barely made a dent in my inbox today, so I'm sure another post will be coming but I just wanted to get this one up while I was still motivated. Darren asked if I wanted to go on an evening hike and I said yes and instead we ended up at Costco, so that's about how my day is going. And if you want evidence that Delta is bad, Costco was out of toilet paper. So it would seem that my numerous predictions that Christmas is Canceled feel more and more accurate every day. Supply chain issues seem to be less about the manufacturing of products, though those seem to be a problem too, but more an issue with a lack of labor as people keep getting sick, especially in the very places we count on to process our food or make us some extra soft and absorbent toilet paper. 

Anyway, you'll probably hear from me again tonight so I'll peace out for now.

Today is Love A Tree Day (Taken 5.10.21)

I broke my streak. 

For the past couple weeks I've been trying to force myself to some adventure out of the house every day and yesterday's was just a brief run to the San Diego River Garden and I had planned on San Diego Zoo Safari Park today, but conditional on it raining, and since there was pretty much no traceable rain besides Oceanside, we decided it would just be a normal crowded Sunday there and passed. 

But then I decided to make a Korean feast with the bulgogi we got at H-Mart, and some of the sides we picked up as well as a steamed egg and by then it was late. Then I wanted to go shopping but Darren talked me out of it and then he felt bad but by then I was already back in pajamas and so here we are and I didn't leave my house today. I hope to make up for it this week for sure. 

Global news has been especially charged lately, so I'm gonna steer clear and stick to the usual around here. The mask debate carries on and almost exactly one month to the day that churches were allowed to reopen to 100% capacity indoors, The Rock Church is having outbreaks among their many campuses. It's almost like we knew that was going to happen. 

Beyond that, I'm just cozy at home catching up on my shows and looking to get back in my groove after a full night's sleep. Stay safe out there.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I took cinco-de-drinko to all new heights yesterday, but obviously not too embarrassed to share that here. I had a fun chat with Matt from The Bronx/Mariachi El Bronx for a story I was supposed to write last night (before the sauv blanc really hit.) I'm working outside today and it's nice we have a partially shaded backyard because otherwise it is hot af. I just want to go snorkeling at La Jolla Cove, but like the old days, when we could go on a weekday afternoon and it would mostly be empty. I haven't even done a driveby since March so I have no idea what it's like these days. I wish that seal cam was still working. Apparently the red tide is dying, too, so if you didn't catch the bioluminescence at night, tonight might be your last chance to do so...I recommend Law Street (park on Mission Blvd and walk) or Windansea. Steer clear of Sunset Cliffs and OB. I'm slowly working through email today and have yet to watch any daily briefings, but I think I might just skip them today since Thursday is supposed to be the big news day. My 15 year old backyard furniture is falling apart beyond repair, so I hope Ikea can reopen and sell me a cheap replacement set, although if my pay isn't secure past July and my job won't come back for months, is it a justifiable expense? I have this depression-era image in my brain of people boiling leather shoes for soup stock and it terrifies me daily.

Travelling to Coachella

In case you're going to Coachella, I just got this helpful email about traffic. It was sent by the people behind the Waze app, but it seems useful enough, so check it out if you need some road trip tips for Coachella. Incidentally, I talked to y friend Kelsey who's driving for Lyft and UberX and she says they're bringing in drivers for both services, so there's that, too. Anyway, road closures, instructions and other information after the jump.

So, you are off to Coachella! Awesome! What’s not so rad is sitting in a car that’s not moving. The cities of Indio and La Quinta anticipate major traffic delays during the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. There will be road closures, so please plan ahead and expect delays when traveling throughout Indio and La Quinta near the festival. Not to mention there will be approximately 30,000 guests shuttled into and out of the concert venue from various locations throughout the Coachella Valley to help ease traffic conditions.

Have You Signed Up For Uber?

I haven't driven a car in 4 years. It seems crazy that it has been that long since my little Mazda Protege, took it's last ride. It was a gift from my parents after high school, a compromise that I would attend junior college for lower division courses instead of heading up to UC Berkeley, and that car had a lot of sentimentality attached. So much so, that I didn't actually get rid of it until I moved out of Kensington last year to get $400 to help with moving expenses. I obviously have gotten by...with public transportation, walking a lot, and various friends carting me around town to shows and such. Of course, Darren is a taxi driver, too, which is generally pretty convenient getting me around on weekends when his car is in service. But it is always good to have options. On the occasions when we go out together and need a ride, or I just can't get a ride home, it's nice to have Uber as an option.

This week, Uber is offering a great deal...instead of the usual $10 credit you get just for signing up, through July 7, you get a $20 credit. Now, keep in mind that rates are variable, so it might not be your cheapest 4th of July transportation, but with tip included and automatic billing to your credit card, it certainly takes the cake for convenience. Even if you don't need it now, having the app installed and ready to use is a great backup should you find yourself without a ride or perhaps a few too many cocktails after a raging night.
