Portugal. The Man w/ Avi Buffalo @ House of Blues- 07.10.13

Portugal. The Man

This past Wednesday night, Portland (OR)-based psych-rockers Portugal. The Man made their yearly trip to San Diego and treated a sweltering HoB crowd to a visual and aural showcase.  Long Beach locals Avi Buffalo opened in support.  More words and photos after the jump...

Following an extended set by four-piece Avi Buffalo, an expanded version of PTM took the stage to an absolutely packed House of Blues and ripped through an hour and a half set of material touching on all eras of their discography.  When I say it was sweltering, there is a strong element of understatement involved.  Everyone from bouncers to bar staff- and especially those on the super packed floor- were damn near drenched soon after the main act took the stage and the look of euphoria on everyone's faces as they stepped into the relatively cool night air after the show was as much a sign of relief as it was an indication of the quality of the performance witnessed that evening.  Six band members and an unprecedented amount of gear tested the holding capacity of the ample stage and every bit of it was put to good use.  Adding to an outstanding performance was the typically stellar light show that they provided- definitely the sign of a band who is very interested in providing their fans with the very best concert experience they can put together.  If you haven't checked out their newest LP 'Evil Friends', do yourself a favor and head over to M-Theory and pick up a copy.  Your ears will thank you.
