Preview: The Night Terrors of 1927 at the Casbah tonight

The Night Terrors of 1927 (Blake Sennett and Jarrod Gorbel) photo courtesy of Atlantic Records
Despite the ominous name that would make metal bands kick themselves for not thinking of first, The Night Terrors of 1927 is Jarrod Gorbel's (The Honorary Title) and Blake Sennett's (Rilo Kiley/The Elected) newest musical project.  However, fans of both artists raw, emotive style will be surprised to hear the quiet acoustic performances featured in both artist's oeuvre has been replaced by rousing grandiose arrangements courtesy of producer Andrew Dawson, who co-produced Kanye West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy".  I've been a huge fan of Gorbel's and Sennett's for a long time now and I was stunned to hear the change in style for these two musicians.  Some of their debut EP, Guilty Pleas, tracks hearken back to the crowd-pleasing songs on The Honorary Title's last album Scream and Light Up the Sky, yet stand out tracks like the single "Dust and Bones" demonstrate a much more confident foray into a poppier sound.  This is a band on the rise and, if there is any justice in this world, you'll be hearing greats things coming from Gorbel and Sennett in the near future.  The Night Terrors of 1927 are playing with Magic Man and Prides tonight at the Casbah, tickets are $12 and can be purchased here and at 9 p.m. at the door.  Check out their first single, "Dust and Bones", after the jump.

Kristin Gundred playing with Rilo Kiley on Jimmy Kimmel

I know Natalie already posted this, but it's newsworthy and my readers have pointed me to the video, and really, it's worth posting again as far as I'm concerned. Grand Ole Party's Kristin Gundred has been doing backup vocals for Rilo Kiley as they've travelled through Europe and as a friend and a fan, there is nothing cooler than seeing someone representing San Diego on national television. Here's Kristin backing up Rilo Kiley on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

hey, just a blast from the past, here's a pic of me and my friend Ben with Jimmy Kimmel at a Superbowl party from a few years back. Yeah- geek out!

New Rilo Kiley Full Stream!

Established facts: 1. Grand Ole Party is supporting Rilo Kiley on their North American tour this fall. 2. Grand Ole Party is an awesome San Diego Band. 3. I support all San Diego Bands.

That said, I'm happy to announce that Rilo Kiley's new album is available for full stream on the myspace. Ha. I love calling it "the myspace". Anyway, check out the whole album here for the next week. Gotta love full streams.

Congratulations, Kristin! Grand Ole Party on their way to being HUGE!

I was at the Beauty Bar tonight, despite fighting some major tireds and trying to get myself to motivate to get ass-in-car and head to the bar. I would've felt bad after getting guest listed (thankfully Gabe was there to say I was supposed to be on the list) and I got there as Silverbird finished up their first song. I will post about that show later, but first I wanted to congratulate Kristin Gundred of Grand Ole Party. Yeah, they're touring with Rilo Kiley in the fall, but did you know Kristin is leaving San Diego on August 12th to be a backup vocalist for Rilo on their European leg of their tour? They'll be hitting all the major and minor European summer festivals and representin'. She'll also be appearing with Rilo Kiley when they play Conan O'Brian. Holy shit! Huge things are happenin' and like the superfan I am, I'm proud and happy that someone so deserving is spreading the wings out into this crazy world in which we live.

Congrats again to Kristin.
