CoViD-19 Vaccine Trials Launching In South Bay | Pandemic May Match Or Exceed Flu of 1918 | Pet Safety During Heatwave | When Police Stop Policing

I think I'm making a Labor Day Weekend mistake by binging all the newish Netflix movies. At this rate, I won't have anything to watch while we're sheltering-in-place this weekend during the impending heat wave. So far, I watched Freak Show, about a queer high school kid who overcomes unspeakable school bullying, and really liked it. I finished Strange But True about a girl who think s she's pregnant with her dead boyfriend's baby which was pretty terrible. Then I watched Love, Guaranteed which is a pretty cheesy and predictable rom-com, but I liked it anyway, and now I'm watching The Lost Husband, which already feels like a Lifetime movie and therefore I am all in.
It took me awhile to get through all of Thursday's email and news, but we did some shopping while Nova skated. We didn't realize it was just a one hour class, so we felt terrible when we got a text from Derby United that she was waiting for us, but she seemed to be okay and obviously we'll check next time we register. I think the decision has been made that we're pulling her from soccer so we'll probably be back at Derby United a whole lot more in the near future.

CoViD-19 & Black Lives Matter| Balboa Park Events Reschulduling Tabled | Restaurant Week To Return | #WearOrange | Crisis Fatigue

Bea Evenson Fountain taken 6.4.2019
Balboa Park Central Mesa and All Lots Will Fully Reopen 6.12.2020

I meant to post this post on Thursday night, but I got caught up in the CRB meeting and then watched the Balboa Park Committee meeting on Youtube through our Roku, and then I had to record my presentation for the Virtual San Diego Music Awards (taking place on July 6) and then compose a Casbah newsletter for today and then I just never got back to publish my post here. But the biggest thing I want to say is that I was wrong about last night's march that took place from Downtown to North Park. I felt the demands missed the mark because they were already being addressed or addressing the wrong jurisdiction, but I can see now, that wasn't really the point nor the driver of why so many people turned out. One can never predict how things are going to go, but I saw hundreds of peaceful protesters walking together, saw dozens of photos and read numerous accounts and even watched some of the live streaming footage of the event and it looked like quite a beautiful thing. I imagine many of the people were the same people who submitted over 3500 comments to the Community Review Board, proving you can fight the same fight from multiple fronts simultaneously for more impact. I'm so impressed and I hope that marches, demonstrations, and protests and remain peaceful throughout the weekend.

CoViD-19: San Diego Humane Society Open By Appointment Only

As families are facing the unknown -- will I still have a job? will I lose my home? what am I going to do with the kids?--our pets can bring unconditional love and comfort. Two of my family's current three are San Diego Humane Society adoptees. (Kiwi came from a litter of cats born to a mom whose owner thought she was a he over 20 years ago.) And we just realized that today, 3/17 is the 5 year anniversary of the first time we met Ficus, named Sunflower at the time, before we finalized her adoption 4 days later, on March 21, 2015.

The whole world is really insane right now, but if you have stable living conditions for the foreseeable future, consider adoption via the San Diego Humane Society. Sadly, times of financial strife often result in pet relinquishments, so they will be extra busy. Pets will definitely be therapeutic companions for many who live alone and will be asked to shelter in place for the next several weeks or months, so if you're one of these people and you have stable housing, what are your waiting for?? You can even browse animals online.

Anyway, the San Diego Humane Society has been sending updates about their current status in light of the pandemic, and you can read the whole thing here. The TL;dr most important parts are below.

1. SDHS is open by appointment only. 78 animals came in on Monday alone to add to the over 1000 animals already in their care; finding homes for animals doesn’t stop. Call 619-299-7012 to make an appointment or drive up to any of our campuses and make an appointment from your vehicle.

2. There will be a need for fosters. Sign up here.

3. The 'neuter scooter' will cease operations for now.

4. Before relinquishing a pet, please consider rehoming.

5. Injured and/or orphaned wildlife can still be brought to Project Wildlife at 5433 Gaines St

San Diego Humane Society Free Adoptions

If you have room in your home and your heart this holiday season, what better gift than being a forever home to a new pet? The San Diego Humane Society, with a sponsorship by generous donors, are offering FREE adoptions from now until Christmas Eve. Ficus was a Humane Society adoption and she has been an amazing addition to our family, and to be honest, filled the massive void left when Pascha died. We recently took advantage of a similar offer at the San Diego County Animal Shelter and came home with Strawberry, who is the sweetest little jerk you could ever hope for.

Get down to any of the three campuses of the San Diego Humane Society and find your new love in a cat, a dog, a guinea pig, chicken, or rabbit.

Seth Combs Gets The Bieb For Charity

I thought I'd posted a link to my photos from last week's fundraiser, but alas, I had not. The party at U-31 got off to a slow start, I imagine you working folk couldn't quite get there at 5, but once it got going, there was a great turnout. A representative from the San Diego Humane Society was on hand to receive the total of $966 in donations (well over the $300 for the hair and $700 for hair/beard/mustache). As party-goers got in on the beard and mustache fun, Rob Deez performed with Josh Damigo as his sidekick, and of course they played the Seth Combs song. As Seth got his hair cut, courtesy of Salon Tonic by stylist Dario, Gregory Page performed a set, followed by Long Live Logos. It was a super fun time and Seth was as good a sport as any. All of this now is even funnier as some media outlets try and get a juicy story out of Josh and Seth in regard to Josh's SDMA acceptance speech which he closed with "and Seth Combs can suck my balls".
