The Night Marchers, The Creepy Creeps, The Cheap Leis @ Belly Up 7.17.08

This is my first time blogging, so I am about as nervous as a guy going up to a random girl at a bar, “How’s it going? Uh, uh, uh,…” But like that guy, I am still going to give it a shot.

It's a long post, so rather than take up the entire page, to read the whole details of the crazy night click on the "keep on reading..."

I had my plans all set for Thursday night, Team Abraham and Earlimart at the Casbah. Then around 2pm a text came through from my friend Ryan “Are you going to the Night Marchers tonight.” It totally surprised me, first off, I haven’t seen or heard from Ryan since he got married about 3 months ago. Second, he is one of those guys that is just… Awesome, but seems just as allusive as his awesomeness. So I made a quick audible and decided to meet up with Ryan and see the legendary John Reis at the Belly Up.

I made my way up to Solana Beach early and stumbled upon what seemed to be the human equivalent of a dog park for kids. The park was teeming with kids, running rampant, jumping on benches, rolling on the ground, these were suburban kids finally able to let loose. Behind all this was a singer-songwriter playing mellow beach-style music, his covers included Sublime and Neil Young. Can’t remember his name, but now I know there is a concert series called Concerts at the Cove by the Lifeguard station in Solana Beach. Being a family scene, it ended at dark and I went for food and drink.

After grabbing a few beers at Tidewater (Pizza Port was too crowded), I headed over to meet Ryan at the Belly Up. We were there early enough to catch The Cheap Lei’s, which was cool because I always wonder how San Diegans playing Hawaiian music would sound. The venue was pretty empty at that point, and the music set a good mood for people who were just getting there and talking with their friends, but I couldn’t help but think how I would love to see them at a day time outdoor show and sip on some Mai Tai’s. They also did a cool Hawaiian rendition of a RFTC song, though I don’t know the name of the song.

Next up were The Creepy Creeps and they brought it hard. All of them had on World War II motorcycle helmets and green zombie masks, and were flanked by two Go-Go dancers with large cartoon eyes on their chests and cartoon monster mouths on their chonies. It was the perfect visual compliment to their organ driven zombie rawk mayhem. Their stage presence was great, I kept thinking the coffin case keyboard would fall to the floor any second with all the rawkous playing. On top of that, there were two giant dudes in grease monkey jumpsuits and Mexican wrestler masks dancing throughout the crowd. The bassist kept the crowd entertained in between songs with banter of “this next song is a dance tune” “this song is a grinding song, you know, like you did in junior high” and finally as a guy was offering the bassist a beer, he said “no, I don’t drink, cause then I would end up sleeping with you.” I couldn’t help but really dig these guys.

Lastly, was John Reis’ band The Night Marchers. Taking the stage slimmed-down and tan, dressed in dark grey polyester pants and a vertically striped 70s shirt, he seemed like the happiest guy in the room. They came out blaring in traditional RFTC fashion, and Reis’ perfect bright-white grill seemed as though it could chomp your head off with every raspy line sung into the microphone. Reis owned his guitar and rocked some great solos that fit perfectly with the songs. In the middle of the set, with dark spots seeping through the polyester shirt, Reis described to the audience how the set was diagrammed, “High, then low, and then bringing it back up even higher to end.” This said, even the low was great, with a kind of funky, bluesy slow song that really had an amazing groove, props to the drummer, he killed it. As they brought back up the energy, the crowd responded with lots of jumping, and beer being thrown in the air, at a “divier” bar the crowd would have gone completely insane. When they ended it seemed like the set had flown by, sure enough the crowd cheered for more and got it. But Reis explained with a huge smile, “You aren’t getting more than you should, we just shortened the front half, so with the encore you are only getting the full amount, not extra. An insider tip into the music business.” They rocked out two more songs and left the stage. I couldn’t tell who had more fun that night, the crowd or Reis. It was a great show and all the bands brought something unique and awesome. And Ryan, you should hang out more.

FM 94/9 About the Music feat. Republic of Letters & The Duke Spirit 7.15.08

Tuesday night was a great night. Petro & Andy picked me, we picked up Eric from his place and headed up to the Belly Up. I was looking forward to seeing The Duke Spirit, but mostly because I love the way Republic of Letters sounds on the stage. With a designated driver, I was stoked to see the Belly Up reinstated their 'beer of the month', so we couldn't pass on Dos Equis for $3. We hung outside for a while until Republic of Letters took the stage. The set was great and because it was an "About the Music" show the venue was packed. It made for a great showing for Republic of Letters and I was proud of their set. They played some new songs and it looks like they'll be recording soon. For some reason there were no front stage lights for their entire set, so you'll have to checkout pics on their MySpace page, but I did post video of them here.

After their set, we hung back outside, and by the time we re-entered the venue, it was insanely packed. I liked The Duke Spirit, but I didn't love them. They're good at what they do, there are just a lot of bands doing what they do...The Ting-Tings, The Noisettes, and Killola come to mind. As it was, their CD was a grower for me- it took several listens to get into it. This is as close as I got to the stage.

With that many people crowding the venue, and Petro having to work early the next morning, we stayed for about half the set. On our way out, I ran into Daye, and he suggested I stay and catch a ride home from him, so I did, but we ended up standing in front of the Belly Up catching up with friends for the remainder of the night.

After he dropped me at home, Dag texted me, so we met for a nightcap at the Ken where all my neighborhood buddies were hanging out. Needless to say, I was asleep before my head hit the pillow.

Republic of Letters @ Belly Up 7.15.08

I had such a great time at the Belly Up on Tuesda9 night for the FM 94/9 About The Music series featuring The Duke Spirit, but honestly I was there for Republic of Letters. I'll post pictures of the whole night later, but I took some video that I'll post for now since I promised some girl from New York (hi, Melissa) in the X1FM chat that I'd take video of the show.

Datarock & Ladytron. Belly Up. 5.31.08

Did I mention I went to see Datarock and Ladytron at the Belly Up on Saturday? Datarock proved to be as awesome as before, red sweatsuits and all. They killed the crowd with faves like "Fa fa fa" and um, is that song called 1984? Whatever. Even me, the non-dancer, found myself dancing and singing away.

I was way into Datarock. Then Ladytron came out, and I don't know if the darkness of the music just put me in a dark place or what, but I thought they would deliver a more upbeat show. Perhaps if I'd listened to the new album more closely, I would've known to expect a heavy set, but this was the one night ever that I thought I'd be dancing and the music never put me there. Maybe I need to be a little more goth.

The other thing was that I found out that the band wanted no photos. Um, Belly Up, I took some anyway. The place was all dark save for their beatiful light boxes, which of course were synchronized to the music. Honestly, now in retrospect, I think it was all me. I wanted happy dancey shit, and instead it was dark and heavy. Still, perhaps 'dancey' for some, but I wanted way more energy from the band, perhaps to equalize the sold out Belly Up crowd.

All was good, however. I found some friends outside while Dagart danced his socks off inside. It was really a great night and after the Belly Up, we had time to chill and then make our way back south to the Ken where we got sufficiently enebriated and I could just walk my way back home. A successful night, indeed.

Britt Daniel @ Belly Up, 5.3.08

By the time Natalie and I arrived at the Belly Up, Britt was already performing. We walked in and I thought she was following me, but she cut right and made her way around to the stage, I went left and around to the other side of the stage where I was able to cozy up close. Britt sounded great and though he had a setlist, he also took a lot of crowd suggestions and played for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Mostly it was just him and his guitar, but for some songs, he had a little boombox with recorded drumbeats which reminded me of the time I saw Folk Implosion at the Casbah and it was just Lou Barlow and his boombox.

Britt is just phenomenal to watch and on this night he was cheery and joking and happy, even when a couple drunk audience members were clapping along, completely out of rhythm with the music. Below, some pics and video from the evening.

bill, Republic of Letters, Swim Party, The Sword 4.17.08

I am not gonna disclose how late I ended up staying up on Wednesday night but I was hanging with my Kensington homies and it was very. very. late. Still, a couple Diet Coke refills of my 44 oz cup from AM/PM and I made it through the day. Plus, I had the motivation of knowing I was going to have a three day weekend. After work and a short nap, I was off to the Belly Up for an all local show. Being friends with 3 of the 4 bands certainly has it's perks, so while the first band wrapped up, we hung out backstage.

Bill started and I had to check them out now that Dagart is playing with them, and it had been ages since the one show I saw them at the Alibi. They sounded good, with a little Ben Fold's mixed up with a little jazz and a funky little groove behind every song. My camera just didn't want to cooperate with only the back lights being used, but here are a few pics, apparently almost all of Dag.

We retreated back into the backstage area until Republic of Letters started. Those pics came out even worse, which sucks because their set sounded really great, and I was happy to look around and see other people singing along to their songs.

Last up was Swim Party and I had to stay for a couple songs, even though I was supposed to be heading down to the Casbah, because I had to take them in before their hiatus, and of course, they didn't disappoint.

I left after a few songs, and a short 21 minutes later was at the Casbah. I tried to prepare for the transition in music by playing the hardest shit I could find on my iPod, but nothing quite prepared me for a sold out balls out metal show that I witnessed. I wormed my way around the side, as I do, and I took some pictures, until I realized that the 3 guys playing guitar all looked exactly the same...same length hair and color, and heads hung forward with all their hair hanging over pretty much the whole set. They rocked hard, but it was also entertaining watching the crowd trying to stand upright as they were getting pummelled from behind. It got a little crowded where I was too, so about midway through the set, I realized the sound on the patio was just as good.

After the set I was determined to get a picture of the band's faces, but since I didn't know what any of them looked like, or if they were even on the patio, I just said, "Anyone with long hair, get in the picture." Who knew people would actually listen? I think a couple of them were in the opening bands but I have no idea. Either way, a good representation of the crowd that night.

After all of that I closed my night out at the Ken Club. It was so nice knowing that I had Friday off and I lived up my Thursday to celebrate it.
Then there was the weekend...I'll save that for another post.

Ingrid Michaelson Coming To San Diego

A few months ago, I posted "The Old Navy Sweater Song" on my site and it was obvious by the number of people who landed here by googling the song, that Ingrid's star was rising. She's been in numerous magazines, her song is on Billboard's top 200, and her independent album has sold almost 90,000 copies. Then she pleases all of us San Diegans by featuring our local hottie, Greg Laswell, in her music video for the song.

Ingrid is criss crossing the country over the next couple months and will be part of the Hotel Cafe tour, which kicks off in San Diego on March 6 at the Belly Up (tickets onsale Jan 9). In addition to Ingrid, the San Diego stop will include Cary Brothers, Greg Laswell, Kate Havnevik, Jessie Baylin, and Jim Bianco.

And for the other Laswell Lovers out there, you can catch Greg performing at the Casbah this Friday, along with Dialed In fave Emery Byrd.

Tonight at the Belly Up: Bob Schneider & AM

If you don't already have plans for Sunday night, I wanted to recommend the show at the Belly Up. I like to say that Bob Schneider is to Austin what Steve Poltz is to San Diego. He's a great songwriter who can come up with a song on the spot, can sing a song that will break your heart, then goes right into a song about fucking that will make you laugh out loud. Sometimes he has a band but tonight will be an "intimate" experience with just him an his guitar. Did I mention he's all kinds of sexy, too? Yeah, the dude dated Sandra Bullock. He ain't no small fry, though I suppose he is probably tired of that being his defining trademark.

Also on the bill is AM. It is because of an AM show last year at Lestat's that I started this blog. I had volunteered to sell merch at his show, and met his manager who was very encouraging about music writing and whatnot. It was that conversation with Mia and another with Chris Karn of Deccatree that I got into this whole thing. AM is also a great songwriter. Every song on his debut album was used in commercials, tv and movies before it even came out. Like Josh Radin, he goes well with a Zach Braff movie or Grey's Anatomy, but unlike other snooty music writers, to me, that is a compliment.

I will be at the show, and you should be, too.

No Show Listings Today: Stay Home! Belly Up Closed Tonight

I will post my usual show listings later, however with fires burning out of control, in my opinion, you should just stay home. Maybe walk to your nearest bar if you really need to get out.

Due to evacuations all of the way to the coast, the Belly Up Tavern will be closed tonight. The Sia and Willoughby show that was supposed to happen tonight is being postponed. Refund information can be found on the Belly Up site, but hold on to your tickets for the rescheduled date which should be announced in the next couple days.

The news just announced that Larry Himmel's home is currently on fire. This is going to be a crazy week.

Update: The Belly Up show on Tuesday has also been cancelled.

Saturday Recap: Dynamite Walls CD Release Show

I'm getting a little tired of apologizing for the music that I love. On the one hand, I like my indie rock, the stuff that makes me think and analyze. Then there's the music that you take for face value, the stuff that is honest and obvious and might be a guilty obsession because you know that it plays better to the masses. And for a band like Dynamite Walls, I think there is a crossover, of people who want to pre judge and who listen to their music and hear it as something mainstream, and then there are people like me who wake up with my insomnia with their songs in my head and, after a while, you have to acknowledge that there is some powerful songwriting there that penetrates the brain and makes you love the band. And that's even before you meet all of them and think about how ridiculously nice they all are, that despite most of them having girlfriends, that they take the time to meet every fan and sign every CD that passes through their path.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

On top of all that, this is an unsigned band that had more than 500 people, in a venue with a cap at 600, that showed up for their CD release party. It speaks to how hard they have worked, with touring and playing local venues and building this audience that makes every fan feel intimately connected to the band. As a fan, as a blogger, as a chick, they make you love them when they are on stage. It's a strange power that nobody in the band or management ever lets get to their head that makes you love them even more.

Dynamite Walls "Hustle"

All of this doesn't even mention the "family" vibe of the band. John (from Monsters Are Waiting and Eve 6, who produced the album)was there, and many of Jason, the manager's family, came out just for this occasion. I've been a fan of Dynamite Walls for so long that it took Jared from Augustana to really make me realize what they've accomplished. They've had deals in front of them that they have refused; they've toured; and shit! they nearly sold out the Belly Up for their self produced CD release party.

Dynamite Walls "Faces"

So I had an amazing time on this night. I tend to avoid the Belly Up and Casbah on weekends, but I'm so glad I gave in and was there for what was an amazing evening. The band was kind enough to share their limited beers with us, to pose for silly pics, to just take the time to appreciate me as much as I appreciate all of them.

Setlist, Dynamite Walls CD Release

After the band finished, there was some drinkin to be done, but the band is so about the fans that they went out into the crowd to sign CDs and whatnot while we all waited backstage. Eventually the Belly Up was kickin everyone out so we headed around the corner to Surf and Saddle. As we attempted to enter, Natalie got groped by a guy who was getting kicked out for randomly groping people. Then there was a guy less than 2 feet from us wearing a shirt with a picture of George Bush with the words "Not My President" on it, and some fucking loser guy decided to sucker punch him while screaming 'nice shirt'. The door guy tackled him to the curb while I fished for my ID and I just wanted to get safely inside. I found my ID and the rest of the night, all 30 minutes of it, included the Dynamite Walls boys coming in, Jared of Augustana, and a handful of other people that were backstage hanging out and just living up those last minutes of bar time.

As barely inclined I am to believe that North County can be a good time, this night went particularly well and I had so much fun with all the people we were fortunate to hang with.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

As it goes, the night has to end, even after a couple random shots of Jaeger. So Nat and I headed back south of the 8 and with a super soft spot for everyone we were fortunate to hang with for the Dynamite Walls CD release party. The last thing I can really say about it all is that I had an advance of the CD and I listen to it incessantly. If any band deserves to "make it" this band is on that list. And I guarantee despite whatever success comes to them, they will be the most real and down to earth guys anyone could ever hope to meet. And for me, sometimes, that is all that really matters. Above the music, these guys have a team of people who are all so real that you dream of big stadiums for them, because that is what they have earned, and that is what they deserve. And they'll still be at the merch table meeting and greeting every single fan. Gotta love those boys.

Saturday Teaser: Dynamite Walls CD Release Party at the Belly Up

It's approaching 5 a.m. so I'll give the Dynamite Walls show the proper treatment tomorrow (or today, I guess) because it was such a great night that I couldn't possibly do it justice now. Since Natalie was shooting photos, I decided to focus more on capturing some video, so enjoy "Everybody Knows" and "Pages" and I'll post more tomorrow. There's a lot of screaming, so apologies, but the boys get the ladies hyper. And that is not me singing along.

Free Tickets! Pato Banton, Sunday Sep 2 @ Belly Up

FM 94/9 hosted the Marc Ford, Swedish Models, and Charissa Saverio show at the Belly Up last night. When they do that, Anya Marina or another 94/9 DJ introduces the bands coming on, and occasion have swag to give away to people who correctly answer their trivia question.

Anya asked "What band is having a CD release party this Saturday night at the Belly Up?"
Of course I knew that my boys Dynamite Walls are releasing their album this weekend (and you should be there because the CD is DAMN GREAT.

Anyway, my cat was digging through my swag bag and knocking shit all over the floor and I realized in the bag was a pair of Pato Banton tickets for Sunday's show. I have family in town this weekend and won't be able to make the show, so if anyone would like the tickets, simply e-mail me and they are yours. No contest, no trivia. Just tell me you want them (and can come by my place and pick them up) and they are yours. First response wins.

Wednesday Recap: Charissa Saverio, Swedish Models, Marc Ford

I spent my Wednesday sleeping in, meeting my sister and my niece and Sara at Ponce's (where I finally tried their cheeseburger. yum) then headed up with Natalie to the Belly Up for the last of the Belly Up's anniversary series. The funny thing was that The Swedish Models wanted me to take pics, but there were so many other photogs with such better cameras that I felt completely useless. We hung backstage for a while and then went out for Charissa Saviero, who admitted that she had just put a band together in two weeks. I was happy to see "Stinky"...Mr. Jeff Aafedt (sp?) the drummer of The Rugburns, doing his thing in this band. Charissa is a Brit singer songwriter who brings to mind 80 rock chicks while also keeping it fresh and new. This particular song, she said, was written by a friend. While I normally have issues with songs that use a common slang as their main chorus lines, I thought Charissa rocked well throughout her set... I just happened to capture the main ballad of their set.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Nat and I got there early in the night and the Swedish Models let us backstage to (probably in their poor interest) have a couple beers.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We just tried to absorb the minimal A/C air coming through the backstage room. This is their setlist, preplanned on the fridge.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The Swedish Models have so much talent between their five members, and with the bonus of the amazing sound at the Belly Up, I think there were people who were already fans of the band there eating them up, and new fans who wondered how they might not have heard of them before. They really are that good and make people wonder where they can hear more.

I caught this song midsong, but I wanted to post it anyway, because the big thing about the Swedish Models is that they have two drummers... Andrew McNally and Dustin Paul, and they share a kick drum. My video may suck, but the band does not, and hopefully it gives a good feel for why there is so much talk about this band.

So the Swedes only have 7 songs at this point, but if you count the three false endings of their "epic" song, then I would say they have 10. Clearly they have enough buzz in town because it seemed more people were there to see them than the headliner, but eventually people filtered back into the Belly Up to see Marc Ford.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It was apparent that Marc has his share of audience, being around for so many years, but it wasn't really my thing. He's an amazing guitarist, but there was so much "wah, wah, wah" with the pedals that I thought of it as something dudes appreciate but for me, not as much. Plus Nat has to work so we headed off after a couple songs.

After I left Nat's, I stopped by the Pink Elephant but there was nothing for me there, so I came back to Kensington then visited my friends at the Ken Club.

Now I'm home in the comfort of my home watching sleazy DreamGirlz commercials while I watch shit TV and I thought I'd mention one more thing. Apparently Kensington is getting a new sign.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

There will be a vote among Kensington residents on the sign replacement. The new sign has more decorative posts to match the light posts of the neighborhood as well as the stone pillars that can be seen around town, in areas like Uni Heights and Hillcrest. So the vote will be between a Kensington sign that arcs and one that hangs straight. I'm particular to the straight one, based on the renderings I've seen, but in a way, it is a little sad to see the current sign go, even though when you look at it, it looks like shoestrings hold it in place. Eh. I look forward to getting my ballot nonetheless.

Tonight's Picks: Cary Brothers and/or Pen & Ink

If you were a fan of the movie Garden State, Cary Brothers (one guy, last name is "Brothers") is already familiar. His track "Blue Eyes" was featured prominently in the film soundtrack. Cary comes from the "Hotel Cafe" breed of musicians...along with Schuyler Fisk, Joshua Radin, Rachael Yamagata, Imogen Heap among others, they've criss-crossed the country on the Hotel Cafe tour and now Cary is finishing up his tour in support of his debut album "Who Are You". Cary will be at the Belly Up tonight. Stars of Track and Field are opening.
“Heartfelt vocals, beautiful melodies and astute lyrics…” – Contact Music
“Who You Are stands as an album of solid song-writing and enchanting melodies.” - PopMatters

I'll get to my review of Anti-Monday League in a few. If you're into music on the harder edge of things, I highly recommend checking out the show at the Zombie Lounge. Pen & Ink and Kingdom of Magic will be joined by Loom and Prize Country, both who impressed the hell outta me last night at the Casbah. And Loom had rad merch. I'll try to zip there after the Belly Up but I think it might get there too late.

Thursday Recap: Great Northern, The Comas, Truckee Brothers @ Belly Up 8/9/07

Being an aunt has been filling up my days and thus my recaps have been behind. Sorry, but gotta live first, post last. Anyway, the show on Thursday was fantastic, and even better when I realized that Peroni's are still $3 at the Belly Up, though the "Beer of the Month" sign is gone. I got there early; I didn't wanna miss a thing. I was impressed how many of the crowd initially seemed to be there just for the Truckee Brothers, though not surprised because they're such a tight band and have been contributing to San Diego music for a long time now. Vocally and lyrically their music has got a good tinge of folkiness which weaves nicely with the long, more classic rock grooves of the guitar work.

The Comas, from New York, were up second and were also impressive. The male vocalist has a higher pitch to his singing that at a lot of times reminded me of Brian of Silversun Pickups. That, to me, speaks for itself as a compliment from me because it's no secret I love SSPU. In the same way, the vocals are layered against a female vocalist and the band got their share of love from the crowd, too.

For their finale, Great Northern came onstage to bash around some drums and tambourines along with the Comas and everyone on stage was enjoying the energy and it gave the crowd a taste of what was to come.

Great Northern came to the stage with their dreamy lush music and while everyone sang along to home, it was nice to hear people singing along to other songs for this second San Diego performance by a band we've seemed to adopt as one of our own. Nice to see the LA band get some love. I didn't take too many pictures as Eenie Meenie records was kind enough (and smart enough) to allow me to put Natalie on the list to take some pics, and I had told the label I'd be YouTubin more than anything. I put those videos in this post if you haven't seen them. There are two more I hope to post if I can get a service that will allow me to upload more than 100 megs (and I still cant get VMix to embed, though they also sponsored the night and I wish I could make better use of their site.)

We were up front doing our thing and bumped into my concert going bud Greg Padgett who was kind enough to write about the night from his perspective:

"Los Angeles based 4 piece band Great Northern create dreamy pop-rock with vocals and harmonies about as sun-drenched as the California coast, juxtaposed with swirling keyboards and guitars that can simultaneously bring about feelings of rapturous ecstasy and impending doom. In other words, songs that would make any fan of songs from "Grays Anatomy" and shoegazers of the world proud. At least thats the feeling I got from their concert at The Belly Up Tavern this past Thursday.

This show was a part of the FM 94.9 "About The Music Concert Series", as well. Playing songs almost exclusively from their outstanding and aptly titled full-length album "Trading Twilght for Daylight"; the set featured down-tempo gems such as "Our Bleeding Hearts", City Of Sleep", and the absolutely stunning "Low Is A Height". The title to that song pretty much sums their sound, in my opinion. They also played up-tempo rockers "Just A Dream", "Telling Lies", and "Home". They closed the set with two rousing rockers "The Middle", which featured a Beatlesque vocal distortion to go along with gorgeous, sweeping vocals that could wash over you like the waves from the Pacific Ocean across the street from The Belly Up. They closed with the guitar heavy, head-banger "Into The Sun", which featured help from members from opening act, The Comas.

After a short break, the band came out and closed the show with the blissfully gorgeous, down-temp "Babies", which is the closing song on their album, as well. I highly reccommend their record, it is one of the very best I've heard this year and definitley reccommend seeing their amazing live show when you get a chance. Some of their songs are more than likely going to end up on either a movie or television show soundtrack someday soon which will catapault them into superstardom, hopefully ones that will do their music and sound justice. Definitely check out their live show when you get a chance at an intimate venue, before they get whisked away to much larger ones; if they keep up the momentum from "Trading Twilight For Daylight", it will only be a matter of time.

Also, 94.9 does an outstanding job of setting up shows by up and coming bands in initmate settings such as The Belly Up at very affordable prices, so whenever you see one of those "About The Music" shows come along the pike, definitely check them out! Its probably the only time you'll will get a chance to see alot of the artists they feature in small venues before they hit the big-time. "

Well said, Greg. I love this band and look forward to them coming back to town sooner rather than later, and I know that they love the reception that San Diego has given them both times they've played here. By the way, the record label has used my video on the band's Virb page here.

After the show I closed up my evening at The Pink Elephant which had a good crowd and seems to be doing well off the fact that Bluefoot has to close at 12 these days, so it wasn't all hipster-ed out and the music was background noise and allowed for conversation which is lacking in so many bars these days. +++ for the Pink Elephant. Now I'm off to the Che for The One AM Radio. See you there...
