CoViD-19 San Diego Stays In Red Tier | Playgrounds Reopen With New Guidelines | Governor Bans Rodenticides | President Tells White Supremacists To "Stand By"

A view from the roof of North Parking (Taken 9.29.2020)

The debate was so painful to watch. If the moderator can't control the mics of the participants than Biden shouldn't agree to do another one.
I spent the day on the roof of the North Park parking structure helping coordinate the virtual Battle of the Bands. It was a little bit crazy but we got it done and you'll be able to watch and vote here
After watching the debate, not a chance I'm listening to the County Board of Supervisors or Dr. Ghaly's state health report, but just know that Michael was accurate that the County would hit 7.2 cases per 100k cases, but it appears that we passed the median tests per 100k residents, which gives an adjustment factor below 1, meaning they were able to mathematically adjust the county at 6.7 cases per 100k residents. So that means we're staying red through at least October 13th. Today's stats and news after the jump

North Park Festival of Arts 2019 Set Times

Not gonna lie. It took me way too long to track down these set times. I realize they're all listed out at ExploreNorthPark.com, but why these can't be found in one organized place is beyond me. So I found three stages and thought I'd post the set times here to reference on Saturday. Find them after the jump.

Last Call for Band Submissions to Festival of Arts in North Park!

The Festival of Arts in North Park is returning on May 16, 2015. The free annual  festival is growing more and more every year. I'm coordinating the music scope of things to some extent, and we will once again be a multiple stage event. There are a super limited number of slots available between three stages, and between Dang and myself and a few other people, we are busy scouting and pulling from our databases to look at the best and brightest San Diego has to offer. However, to be fair, we obviously can't know every band in the region, so we're accepting submissions. The form is super basic and easy, and if you can't meet the minimum requirement of having music online to listen to, frankly you're not what we're looking for. This festival draws in excess of 30,000 people annually and we want bands on our stages who can keep the attention of all those eyeballs and earholes. TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY FOR OPEN SUBMISSIONS.

On a side note, I'm also not looking for any personal pleas. Do not text me, email me, call me, Facebook me to win favor for your band. Just submit the form. As the cliche goes, don't call us, we'll call you.

People always want to know what we're looking for, so keep in mind:

  • This is a family friendly event, keep it clean (visually, lyrically)
  • We are NOT looking for cover bands
  • Bands with cross-demographic appeal (meaning my 7 year old niece might be as interested as my 64 year old mom)
  • Reputation matters (in this small town, if you're a dick, we know about it)
  • If you can't draw in a club or venue, you need more experience before you're festival ready
  • The three stages we're booking are typically indie, rock, pop, garage, punk. Acoustic acts should contact Alma at Queen Bee's.
  • The Festival of Arts in North Park is free community event to raise money for  North Park Main Street, which is a non-profit organization that benefits North Park in innumerable ways. If you're looking for a big payday, this isn't the event for you.

Saturday: The North Park Festival of Arts is Back!

The North Park Festival of Arts is back this Saturday and once again it promises to be a great day of music, craft beer, art, food and vendors. The event is free and all ages, though the craft beer block is a ticketed beer tasting event for 21+.  And, while it's swamp ass hot as hell today, the temperatures should get back to normal on Saturday.

I booked the Main Stage (at 30th and University) and I'm really stoked on my lineup. Dang from Bar Pink booked the 21+ stage in the beer garden, and there are three other stages (Dance, Beat&Eats, Ray Street) to keep you entertained all day. The Festival volunteers and staff who put the whole thing together work really hard to get quality food and curio vendors, artists, and food trucks so that the festival can really stand out above your typical street fair, and you can also stop in to the great business along University and the surrounding streets that you might miss if you haven't been to the area in awhile or just pass by in your car.

Here's my lineup for the Main Stage, hosted all day by Tim Pyles:

11-11:40 School of Rock
11:50-12:30 Soda Pants
fashion show
1:00-1:40 Oh, Spirit
1:50-2:30 Western Scene
2:40-3:20 The New Kinetics
swing dance
3:50-4:30 The Intergalactix
4:40-5:45 The Creepy Creeps

Hope to see everyone there! I'll have a tent in front of Marie's, so stop by and say hello.

North Park Festival of Arts Main Stage Lineup

This year's North Park Festival of Arts is next month and though lineups were supposed to all be announced together, some people got a little over excited and have been announcing their participation. So I figure I might as well just spill the beans, especially because I am *SO EXCITED* about this year's lineup. This is just the Main Stage lineup, I'll add Dang's Bar Pink Beer Garden Stage lineup when I get the go ahead, but it is pretty sick, too. The times might be adjusted slightly, but this is more or less what you can expect.

11-11:40 School of Rock San Diego Covers set
11:50-12:30 Chess Wars (new project of Dustin Lothspeich of Old Tiger & Jake Najor of The Styletones)
Craft Mafia fashion show
1-1:40 Midnight Pine
1:50-2:30 Michael McGraw & The Butchers
2:40-3:20 Bulletins (new project of Lorelei Plotczyk of Film School, Susie, Gharemani, Itai Faierman)
Craft Mafia doggy fashion show
3:50-4:30 I*Wish*I
4:40-5:45 The Palace Ballroom

The North Park Festival of Arts is FREE and ALL AGES (except for the beer garden and the ticketed Craft Beer Block, which are both 21+) and takes place on Saturday, May 18. Mark your calendars!!
