Trampled by Turtles Ticket Giveaway

Photo by Dave Carrol, Trampled by Turtles's banjo player second from left

Trampled by Turtles are playing The Belly Up Monday, May 21, 2012.  You can purchase tickets here, or you can test your luck and try to win a pair from your friends at San Diego Dialed In.  Trampled by Turtles blend together new grass, blue grass, puck, and rock to bring together a unique sound and have songs that are slow and sweet and songs that make you get up and start foot stompin.  What ever genre they are in does not matter as they bring it in their live performances.   Trampled by Turtles just released their sixth album, Stars and Satellites, make sure to pick it up before the show or buy a copy at the show.  I will see you Monday night at The Belly up and give Trampled by Turtles a warm welcome to San Diego coming from frigid Duluth Minnesota.

The show is on it's way to selling out, but I have two pairs of tickets to give away, so to enter, like sd:dialed in on Facebook and leave a comment with a hashtag #trampled. I'll choose a winner later tonight.

SD@140bpm Recommends...

Every Thursday night there is a new EDM dance party focusing on Bass Music at The Stage Bar in the heart of the Gaslamp.  Bass Tribe brings progressive futuristic bass music from underground local and national talent.  Bass Tribe brings the feel and energy of a festival environment.  The Stage Bar has a great sound system to make sure that the audience can experience the real low waves that rattle the audience.  The light system brings lazers that are hypnotic and go well with the overall festival vibe.

The best part is that there is no cover so fans of the Bass music scene have a place downtown that will not break the bank.  They also have $5 tall boys which is a decent price for downtown.  This Thursday, May 17th, will be the third installment of Bass Tribe and the crowd at the events are growing rapidly.  (The poster says that the event happens March but I assure you that this event is happening this Thursday, they care more about the music then getting the poster dates right.)

Make sure to get there by 10:30 as Painful Plea5ures is the first act on.  This is Painful Plea5ures debut show and will be bringing a live production set that once the world experiences it he will be a headliner in no time.  I know I say often you do not want to miss this but trust me you do not want to miss Painful Plea5ures.

Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Kava is an event so massive that it took two big San Diego EDM promoters to put it on. Elev8 and Dragon Lounge bring some of the best national and local underground EDM artists at the Kava Gallery and the Kava Lounge.  In the Kava Gallery artists include Stephan Jacobs, Nico Luminous, Osal8, Arkon, and Squama.  Anyone who was lucky enough to see Stephan Jacobs play U31 a while back knows that this is going to be one hell of a party, but it gets better.  In the Kava lounge artists include Stiletto, Miss Brisk, Geneveve, Asteya  and urBn:LgNd.  Come early to enjoy this massive lineup and grab a tipsy gypsy or any of the great drinks that Kava has to offer.  Make sure not to miss Stephan Jacobs a great multi genre producer from LA and Nico Luminous who is a producer, MC, beatboxer, DJ, and multi instrumentalist who mixes them all together live to produce some innovative hip hop, future dub, and bass

Tonight Friday April 20th make sure to check out Glitch Slap: Four, Two, Oooh!!! w/ Wyatt Purp, Misk, Wala, and urBn:LgNd. The event takes place- not in the main bar at "Kava Lounge"- instead the event is hosted right next door at Kava's Center for the Arts.  The larger space is great for the amazing art exhibits that will be on display including: S E A N D I E T R I C H presenting art, illustrations comics, live painting and whiskey; VIsUaLs by Owns One; and Circus Mafia Presents special guest STRYDER THE JESTER.

In addition this is a great lineup for underground electronic dance music.  The headliner Wyatt Purp is a bass music outlaw from Boomstone, Arizona, whose crunkadelic bangers will heat up the dance floor. More after the jump.

Tonight, Friday, March 23, at Winstons in Ocean Beach is going to go off with the sounds of Marty Party.  Marty Party is gaining strength in the EDM scene and has toured with acts like Glitch Mob, Bassnectar, Skrillex and more.  Marty Party also plays with Ooah of Glitch Mob in his side project PANTy RAiD, and with Minnesota in his side project Deathstar.  Marty Party has an original style that crosses dubstep, hip hop, and big bass bangers.  Every show is original and Marty Party calls his shows "Purple Opera"- that is a seamless voyage through an original music collection taking the audience on a roller coaster ride of dance and emotion that hit the audience with intense bass, huge beats and emotional melodies. His music is frequently featured in iTunes, Addictech and Beatport charts and the live performance will have everyone in the crowd going nuts, make sure to be here tonight!

Bela Fleck & The Flecktones Original Lineup Coming to San Diego

Bela Fleck & The Flecktones are playing four-yes,  four!!- shows this Tuesday and Wednesday at Anthology.  They are performing with the original lineup which includes Bela Fleck, Victor Wooten, Roy "Future Man" Wooten and Howard Levy.  Individually they are some of the best musicians for their respective instruments.  Bela Fleck is one of the best banjo players ever (if you google best banjo player his wiki page is the first result), Victor Wooten in my mind and many others is the best bass player in the world, and Future Man created his own instrument which incorporates both guitar and drums. For the past decade Jeff Coffin has been the fourth member on saxophone, however this is the original line up with Howard Levy mixing things up by playing piano and harmonica.  Together they push each other to create an unbelievable fusion of bluegrass and jazz.  Tickets are going fast and some of the seating is sold out so make sure to get your tickets asap.

For those of you who have a minimal understanding of Dubstep and want to know more regarding the origins of the genre need to check out the documentary Bassweight.  The documentary gives great insight to the early days of Dubstep, with its origins in South London, its growth in popularity, and how it became popular in the United States.  One of the main reasons that the sound jumped across the pond is because of American Dubstep artist Joe Nice.  In the early days of Dubstep, Joe Nice hosted a Dubstep night in New York which featured a lot of the original and up and coming DJ/Producers from London and around the world.  Tonight you can catch Joe Nice at Dub Dorado and witness one of the early pioneers of the Dubstep movement in person.  Make sure to be at Dub Dorado tonight at El Dorado $5 free before 10:30 with RSVP.

There are some great shows to see this Saturday, February 11:

First start the night out right at the Kava Lounge.  The amazing promoters of Dragon Lounge bring San Diego another great lineup of dubstep, future jungle, breaks, drum and bass, future garage, and glitch. MACRODOT from Arizona is headlining and will be closing out the night with his chilled up futuristic new age glitch.

Be sure to get to the Kava Lounge before 10 pm this Saturday night, not only admission free before 10 but you will also be able to see the Kava Lounge debut of local producer/DJ urBn:LgNd.  She will be warming up the dance floor with her sexy slammin garage/dubby tracks to get the party started and the bass a-thumpin.

After you start your night out at the Kava Lounge head down to Winstons in Ocean Beach to continue the dance party.  Freddy Todd is gracing our fair city with his presence.  One of the hottest producers out there right now who mixes dub electronica and hip hop perfectly into some pounding bass and great melodies that combine to be great music to hit the floor and bring the party.  This is one that you do not want to miss.
