Next Week Terraplane Sun @ Belly Up

Terraplane Sun are releasing a new EP entitled Friends and are celebrating the release at the Belly Up Thursday, October 18, with Del Sol Project and Loose Snakes.  The new release Friends produced by Dave Trumfio (Wilco, My Morning Jacket) features dance provoking crowd favorite "Get Me Golden," (listen below) which you may recognize from national television ads including 21 Jump Street, What To Expect When You're Expecting and MTV's Teen Wolf.  Terraplane Sun fine tuned the EP by having a residency at the Satellite in Los Angeles/Echo Park where they showed off their great psych-blues rock intensity.  The relationship between the band and the crowd fuels Terraplane Sun's performances, an energy that cannot be replicated in any other medium.  Get Your Tickets Early Here.

Ode To Andre Champagne

Last night I was looking through photos and videos that I have yet to upload from the last month or so and came across this little nugget of a video of Dennis, Frank, Kelly singing the praises of Andre champagne, with a cameo by Nick at the end.

What a great way to usher in a new year.

Art Around Adams, 6.7.08

Saturday morning I woke up and tried to get my house together before Abraham, Erik, and others headed over. We had decided at the last minute to BBQ at my my house before Team Abraham's set at the Ken Club at 4. By 1, a few people were over and we got the booze and food flowing early and never really stopped. It was a beautiful day in San Diego, and my only regret is that we didn't really have the chance to experience much of the festival because we were hanging in my backyard all afternoon. That was fine though, and sometimes the perfect day in and of itself. We hung out, kicked the soccer ball around for a while, and absorbed the sunshine.

This is Adam Rosen on the right...he was one of the main organizers of Art Around Adams. Props to him for bringing it together.

Chalk art in front of the library.

My mom dropped by with my sisters and my niece for a few minutes and everyone passed Johanna around.

Thanks to everyone who came by; it was a fun day. I got a call at 7:30 that The Ting Tings needed me for merch so I had to bail earlier than expected, but I'll get to all that good stuff next post....

Nichole & Aaron's Wedding, 5.16.08

I know my readers have come to check my site mostly for my listings and occasionally my news and recaps, but my family reads my site, too, and as such, I still like to get a little personal here. Nichole grew up on my block- we used to play house together, walk to school together, and are lucky enough to have maintained our friendship over the years. She met Aaron in a photography class, and after nine years of dating, they finally (!) tied the not over the weekend. The wedding was at her parent's house in Yucaipa and the reception followed in Redlands. My whole family (minus my bro who is in Iraq) made the trip up to the Inland Empire; my mom and dad, sister, God-sister, brother in law, niece, and my cousin came out from LA. We left San Diego at 11 and arrived at Morongo Casino around 1:30, allowing us some time to enjoy the casino before heading to the wedding, which was about 25 minutes away.

It was hot, but the wedding was really pretty and a little punk rock. My sister was a bridesmaid, and Claudia was a flower girl, and we really enjoyed the day.

After the wedding and reception drew to a close, we headed back to the casino. My dad and brother in law headed home and it was a fun all girls night at the hotel. My mom and I gambled for a little while but after the video poker sucked away our cash. The place was bumpin with college kids who looked 13, but fortunately our room was quiet. Come the morning, we checked out and had breakfast at a nearby IHOP (as one is wont to do in the Inland Empire) and then made our way back to San Diego (after a brief stop at a Super Target. huge.) We hoped we'd experience cooler weather when we got back, but looks like it was pretty miserable down here, too, so maybe we were better off being in that overly air conditioned casino. I got back around 4 and napped before it was time to head to the House of Blues. next post for that...
