Bonnaroo 2009

I got a press release for Bonnaroo 2009. I hadn't even looked at it because I don't know anyone from San Diego that has gone to Tennessee for the event, and between Coachella, Bumbershoot, Sasquatch, Outside Lands, SXSW, Austin City Limits, Street Scene and more, I think we've got plenty of other closer options. Today I finally read the email and I found it really interesting so I decided I would post about it just in case.

Bonnaroo 2009 will be held June 11-14 in Manchester, Tennessee. What I found really interesting about the festival, and definitely a sign of the times and perhaps the start of a trend, is that tickets can be purchased in a payment plan. Tickets are not cheap, ranging from $210 (plus huge fees) up to almost $1500 for VIP packages, but with payment plans, it seems like more people will be able to budget for the fun. Full details can be found at Bonnaroo.com (Make sure to watch the Lewis Black video. The embed isn't working.)

I'm not from San Diego, but I've been to Bonnaroo twice and it is an amazing experience... with a few caveats. First, you have to be okay with 4 days of camping. I do not recommend hotels for this event, it is just too inconvenient getting in and out of the venue. Second, it is hot in Manchester, TN in June. Very hot and very dusty. Lastly, there are lots of hippies and all that goes with that. If you are okay with these three hardships, then I highly recommend this festival.

I live in San Diego and am planning to attend Bonnaroo 2009. I grew up in PA and have gotten together a whole group of my friends from high school and college that are going to be joining me there. Even though most of us are almost 40 years old, you're never too old for a road trip...even if mine is quite a bit longer. Anyone else from SD making the trip?
