California folk singer Emily Jane White will be performing a Memorial Day show at Soda Bar on El Cajon Blvd. Even if you have been festive over the long weekend, there is no better way to cap it off than by watching this talented young woman sing songs from her latest effort, Victorian American. Although she would be the first to tell you her songs are sad , I feel drawn to her style and subject matter more with each listen. This is the voice of an artist that has experienced much in her lifetime. Although it would be easy to compare Emily to other female folk singers, those comparisons are not necessary. She has a certain way of expressing her feelings with her music that is worthy of the listener's undivided attention. In a time when so much music is disposable, Emily Jane White's songs should provide those in attendance with a performance that will not soon be forgotten.
