Jeff's Weekly Pick: Future Islands @ Tin Can Thursday May 20, 2010

Living in a large city means there are many choices when it come to watching live music. Never has this been more evident than the present, as new venues have opened in hopes of drawing a crowd by offering music as the main attraction. Banker's Hill is the place to be this Thursday when the Tin Can (after dropping the Ale House) is presenting a diverse line-up of touring musicians. Baltimore based synth-pop artists Future Islands caught my attention recently with their latest release on Thrill Jockey Records, In Evening Air. Led by frontman Samuel T. Herring, the album is chock full of catchy songs that make you want to hit the replay button. Their live performance is one not to be missed (from what I have read). How the group pulls it off in the tiny space should be interesting, to say the least. Pitchfork Media has described their music as "post-wave". All I know is that this group of musicians know what they are doing and that is good enough for me.
