This Week: Trash Can Sinatras At Casbah 7/28/09

Last week, I had the pleasure of seeing Trash Can Sinatras at Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. It had been about 4 or 5 years since I last saw the band when they toured on Weightlifting and played at Cane's, and to me they sounded great as ever. The show was a bit of a preview before they played a festival in Japan. They return to really kick off their U.S. tour here at the Casbah on Tuesday night.

A few long time fans we spoke with felt the show was a little awkward, but personally I liked that you could see the band getting comfortable onstage with each song, and even admitting that they were nervous. There were some extended breaks in the music, a couple that involved Stevie the keyboardist borrowing my keychain to open some Stella bottles for the band, which got some laughs from the maybe 150 people in attendance.

I really like the new album and know that I'm excited to catch the band again this week. There's a Paste review here. Check out their site here.

We met a couple great guys at the show, too. Chris is from Mission Hills and sent me the setlist for those that are curious:

I was 21 when "Obscurity Knocks" was released. I still get misty-eyed when I hear it.
