Jeff's Weekly Pick: Black Mountain @ Belly Up Tuesday November 23, 2010

As Thanksgiving week has arrived, feasting with family and friends takes center stage. Many have lighter than normal work schedules, thus freeing up the night time for some live music. San Diego delivers in a big way this Tuesday when Vancouver based hard rocking band Black Mountain descends into North County's premium venue. The five piece group headed by Stephen McBean recently released its third full length, Wilderness Heart. Dark, trippy and psychedelic are adjectives which have been used to described Black Mountain's sound. All I know is the music is very reminiscent of hard progressive rock which could be heard in the 70's. The band is able to put its own stamp on the songwriting, which truly gives the songs a modern feel. It is hard not to be pulled in, especially during the live performance. This is a collective of musicians that knows where they are coming from, and appear to have a firm grasp on their destination. Be a part of the voyage when Black Mountain stops at the Belly Up this Tuesday. It will make that turkey dinner taste so much better. We have THREE pairs of tickets to give out. Send an email to sddialedin AT gmail with your first and last name and we'll notify you Monday night if you're a winner.
