The Strychnine Rock and Soul Revue was a great time last night at the Beauty Bar. The new management and bartending team (Michelle K, formerly of Lancers, and Jeff, formerly of the Zombie Lounge and Ponce's) have broken the hipster stranglehold on events there, and people were genuinely having a good time - bopping around to anything from traditional rockabilly to "Surfin' Bird" by the Trashmen to "52 Girls" by the B-52's to "Couldn't Get it Right" by the Climax Blues band. It was what a DJ night is supposed to be - various types of music mixed together well and a complete lack of pretense. We need more nights like this.
