This Sunday: Lucha VaVoom At 4th & B

While I'm looking forward to North Park Music Thing and all that it will deliver this weekend, I am also looking forward to Sunday night at 4th & B, when LA cult sensation Lucha VaVoom makes it's first appearance in San Diego. I've been aware of Lucha VaVoom for at least a couple years since Joe Escalante was always talking about it on Indie 103.1. A mix of Mexican masked wrestling and burlesque, the night is certainly bringing something new to San Diego. The Bronx will be performing as their alter-egos, "Los Mariachi Bronx" to round out the night. For more information, check out Lucha VaVoom online.

As a bonus, I've got TWO pairs of tickets to give away! Email me with subject Lucha Libre. Must be 21+. Include your phone number so I can notify the winner. Winners will be announced on Friday.

Full Press Release:

L.A.’s cult hit Lucha VaVOOM, a revved-up, adrenaline-fueled collision of the best in masked Mexican wrestling, titillating striptease and side-splitting comedy, will head south this summer, bringing San Diego a taste of its crowd-pleasing combo of “sexo y violencia.” The one-night-only, 21+ extravaganza, will mark LVV’s area debut, to take place at 4th and B. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.

A much-talked about phenomenon, Lucha VaVOOM has brought traditional Lucha libre wrestling to the masses for nearly seven years by adding a scintillating element of retro burlesque dancing to the testosterone-filled matches. This winning marriage has scored raves from the likes of Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, The Los Angeles Times and has been featured on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live” as well as Mun Dos, Current TV, Telemundo and “A Current Affair.”

An evening at Lucha VaVOOM is like nothing you have ever witnessed before. The night seamlessly alternates between highly skilled luchadores taking one another, and burlesque beauties taking it off. For this debut, Lucha has culled together their best of the best. The masked mammal, Shamu Jr. will team up with the venomous Mexican goat sucker, Chupacabra to battle Leon de Oro and the almighty Fantastico. Crowd-favorites Los Crazy Chickens will squawk up a riot and let the feathers fly as they go head-to-head with the devilish Los Rockers Del Diablo.

Not content to let the boys have all the fun, the fiery femme fatales the Poubelle Twins, will show them that they can play just as rough… and look better doing it. The main match will be a black light blowout: Tiny but evil Dr. Atom, with his huge-henchman, Dr. Maldad, will square up against cross-dressing combater, Cassandro and his teammate, mini superstar, Ultimo Dragoncito in this psychedelic showdown.

In between matches, astounding burlesque acts will dazzle and amaze. Tassel queen, Lucy Fur will hypnotize with her hidden talent and go-go shaker, Moana Santana, will shimmy and shake it off. International dance star and hula-hoop hot stuff, Karis will mesmerize and confound in more ways than one.

The host with the most Blaine Capatch will crack wise with his comedic comrade Spongebob Squarpants' Tom Kenny as they offer up some hilarious play-by-play of the night's action and help steer this kaleidoscopic carnival of brawn, beauty and the bizarre.
