Jeff's Weekly Pick: One EskimO @ Anthology Thursday July 1, 2010

When it comes to live music there is never a shortage of bands which play upbeat songs filled with danceable rhythms. On the other end of the spectrum are bands which play much slower, though no less thought provoking, songs. The latter fits the description of London 4-piece indie rock band One EskimO. What started as a solo project for lead singer Kristian Leontiou has evolved into a full band. Though the songs haven't really changed during this transition, there is a fuller sound with more instrumentation. The group got a huge boost when Hometime, one of the tracks from the eponymous album, was used for a Toyota commercial. This is further proof of how bands gain a fan base and make money in addition to touring and selling albums. (much more difficult in the Internet age).
Local radio station KPRI introduced the band to San Diego a few months back at the remodeled Soundwave. Those in attendance were treated to a full set prior to the band departing to perform at the Coachella Music Festival. This Thursday marks the return of One EskimO to San Diego, this time at the beautiful downtown supper club Anthology. Once again KPRI is presenting the show. While some tickets remain as of this post, do not delay in purchasing for the upcoming event. The heartwarming songs that will fill the air make this a must-see on the calendar.

Alpha Rev sets the stage.
