Thursday Recap: The National @ The Casbah

So it's my birthday, officially, as I type this, but last night I had pre-birthday evening at the Wine Cabana, home of a heavy pour and owned by my good friend Keith. If you are a fan of wine, I highly recommend checking out the Wine Cabana in Old Town. I was fortunate enough to park my car and grab a ride to the Casbah and then a ride back home. So I guess I'll spend my Friday taking the bus to my coche. Anyway, I'm sorry for the flash of my bra in these pics, but I really clearly have no shame. Whatevs...it was great to be with friends.

After Wine Cabana, it was time to head to the Casbah. I'm a little bummed we missed St. Vincent, but we arrived in plenty of time to post up before The National started. I had plenty of friends up front who let me move on up, and no disrespect to anyone else who was up there, but I was rearing to go and snap the following shots. I've loved The National's music all summer, since they canceled the show earlier this summer, so I was glad I was here despite the fact that I had a ticket for Girl Talk at Epicentre and there was another Casbah hosted show by !!! at Cane's. It's always interesting to me to hear a man with a huge voice like The National without ever seeing the dude's face and imagining what the man behind such a voice looks like. Padge let me scoot up front and here are the pics of the evening.

So yeah, I've had a digital camera for 9 months and it wasn't until Tim Pyles showed me how to set my shit on black and white that I started going nutso. I love it. The National was amazing as I'd read in various places that they would be, but in the limited capacity Casbah, they were seriously beyond anything I could have wanted or expected. For me, I'd have to say they were my show of the year thus far. So good, so strong, so *i-don't-know-hitting-me- in-the-gut-shit* that I've experienced all year. And on top of all of it, my birthday struck at midnight and I was happy to be amongst friends when it happened. And while it was a great night, I'm happy that there's a whole weekend of 'radness' ahead of me, starting with an early dinner with my family at my favorite spot, Ponce's.

Yay. Maybe being 31 and single and unemployed ain't as shitty as one might think. Life is really good at this moment.

I'm so bummed I missed this show! I went and saw Girltalk at the Epicentre and LOVED that show. Total amazing energy, but I LOVE the National! They are my replacement for the lack of any new Tindersticks CD!
