Happy National California Day! (Taken 6.15.2021) |
Today is National California Day, so it felt appropriate to post a pic of our California Sea Lions, but I haven't been to La Jolla since we pulled Nova from soccer, so hopefully our numbers continue to drop and I can start leaving the house a little more regularity and with a little less paranoia.
But while I'm on that, can we get back to mask basics? The State of California requires you to wear a mask when you're out in public around other people, whether you're inside or outside. A mask should be worn over your mouth and nose. The CDC is now recommending double masking (disposable surgical-type mask underneath a cloth mask on top). This means that those early days when we were making masks out of bandannas or using neck gaiters are inadequate. Pulling down your mask to use binoculars or take photos, as I saw yesterday at San Diego Zoo Safari Park, defeats the purpose, as does pulling it down to yell, or cough, or sneeze. This really isn't that complicated. Old Navy sells cute, cheap masks which go on sale all the time. You can order cheap procedure masks from Costco and it could be on your door in a day or two. If you don't have Costco, Avacare Medical is another good site. I know there's this whole pressure cooker situation where everyone wants everything to go back to normal, but masking and distancing aren't going away anytime soon, so if you haven't gotten used to it after a year, you better get used to it now.
Around here it was a low-key Monday, just the way I like, after me and Darren had a speakeasy night. We don't have anything really going on at all when the kid isn't around, but it is Darren's birthday this week, so maybe we'll find a special way to celebrate. Stay safe out there.
