Thursday Night: VP Debates vs Amazing Music

Tonight your TVs will be broadcasting the Vice Presidential debates. Frankly, these don't mean anything to the election except to strengthen your own views for your guy, though I'm sure Biden will trip over his own words and might even lose his cool at just how ridiculous and blatantly false the things we will hear coming out of Paul Ryan's bougie neocon mouth as he tries to convince us that he is just like all of us. Basically it is going to be nothing more than fodder for Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert, so instead of letting your stomach twist in knots or throwing bricks at your television, why not see a show instead? Tonight the Casbah is presenting FOUR shows and Soda Bar is presenting two, and if I could be at six places at once, you know I would be. So here's the rundown.

Casbah presents The Raveonettes, Melody's Echo Chamber, The Howls @ The Belly Up (21+, doors at 8pm, show at 9pm. $20.) There are plenty of tickets left for this show, so save yourself service charges by buying at the box office.

Casbah presents Sean Hayes, Birds of Chicago @ The Casbah (21+, doors at 8:30. Band settimes will likely be 9:45/11pm or thereabout. $15.) Again, plenty of tickets for this one so just pay at the door.

Casbah presents Grimes, Elite Gymnastics, Myth @ Porter's Pub, UCSD (All ages. SOLD OUT. Doors at 7pm. I will update settimes later, but show will be over by 10:30 or so, so plan accordingly. Update: Settimes: Myths 7:30-8pm, Elite Gymnastics 8:15-9pm, Grimes 9:30-10:30pm  Give yourself extra time for parking/walking to the venue)

Casbah presents The XX, John Talabot Live @ Soma (All ages, Doors at 7pm. I will update settimes, but expect John Talabot Live around 7:45 or 8, The XX around 8:45 or 9pm. UPDATE: John Talabot 8pm, The XX 9:15)

Soda Bar presents Bad Books, The Drowning Men, Harrison Hudson @ The Irenic ((All ages. Doors at 7pm. $17. Tickets available at the door. Expect settimes to be approximately 7:30, 8:15, and 9pm. The Irenic is located at 3090 Polk in North Park. It is a residential neighborhood, 2 blocks east of 30th and a couple blocks south of El Cajon Blvd. Allow yourself time for parking. Beer and wine will be available for those 21+.) Bad Books features Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra and Kevin Devine.

Soda Bar presents Lord Howler, Joy, Kodiak @ Soda Bar. (21+, $5, 8:30pm. Settimes are whenever they damn feel like it, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 9:30/10:30/11:30)

There are a ton of other great shows tonight, too, so get out and get some. Don't let the rain or the lame debates keep you home tonight. Below, enjoy some Biden hilarity from your friends at The Onion.
