San Diego Fires: Gov Schwarzenegger Speaks

When there's an emergency, can we skip the 'thank yous'? Get to the info people need. George Bush called the governor and said he will provide anything we need.

Governor Schwarzenegger says:

250,000 people have been evacuated.

800 National Guard troops are being taken off the border to aid in evacuation and crowd control.

More than 1000 homes are currently threatened.

Mayor Jerry Sanders says:

Emergency declaration on behalf of all cities filed by the Mayor, state of emergency statewide filed by the Governor.

1. Make sure your neighbors are safe.
2. Evacuate when told.
3. Evacuate orderly, safely, and calmly.

Bill Kolender:

Worst fire ever, already surpassing Cedar fire.

80,000 people have been contacted by reverse 9-1-1 calls.

Life is more important than property.

Ron Roberts:

The situation is dangerous and explosive.

Parts of Fallbrook are now being evacuated.

Numerous homes have already been lost.

Diane Jacob says:

wow. she just asked the Gov to put his arm around her. weird.

Governor's closing speech says that we have the best and most well equipped firefighters in the world.

I don't want to be negative about this, but every time this happens, it's worse and worse. Our policies of absolute fire suppression are a major mistake.
