Birthday Good Time (Taken 9.28.21) |
It was a lovely birthday, I got so many kind messages, and Darren and I went to the San Diego Zoo. On our way home, we found a little stand on ECB selling tacos a vapor, something I've been on the hunt for years, always hoping someone will sell tacos like my family used to get when we'd go to Casa Especial in Tijuana. They were pretty good and I'd definitely get them again. Then we stopped at Baskin Robbins to get my free birthday scoop.
I didn't do much news or work today, but the SDUSD Board meeting was fun to watch on YouTube. I definitely appreciated the 1 minute limit on callers as well as the equal amount of callers on both sides. During a pandemic we don't need to show up to rally, our numbers are represented in the 70+% of kids 12-17 whom have already gotten at least one dose of vax. The Board did the right thing, even if maybe it's too soft and not implemented fast enough.
It is my birthday, so I'm gonna get some cocktails in the speakeasy. Thanks to everyone who called, texted, and sent messages.
Stay safe out there.

- WHO Weekly Epidemiological Update - 29 September
Globally, the numbers of weekly COVID-19 cases and deaths continued to decline. Over 3.3 million new cases and over 55 000 new deaths were reported during the week of 20 – 26 September 2021, decreases of 10% as compared to the previous week for both cases and deaths. The largest decrease in new weekly cases was reported from the Eastern Mediterranean Region (17%), followed by the Western Pacific Region (15%), the Region of the Americas (14%), the African Region (12%) and the South-East Asia Region (10%); while weekly cases in the European Region were similar to the previous week. The cumulative number of confirmed cases reported globally is now over 231 million and the cumulative number of deaths is more than 4.7 million - SDUSD Unanimously approved the Vaccination Roadmap.
- Over 1000 people signed in for testimony
- The Board has a 30 minute limit on testimony for any specific agenda item
- The Board agreed to expand testimony to 1 hour with 60 one-minute calls, equally representing both sides.
- Trustee Patterson, a student trustee, actually proposed an amendment to speed up the timetable for requirements to 12+ while vaccine is still under FDA EUA. Board didn't want to hold up the current roadmap and agreed to table the discussion until October board meeting to see how the FDA/CDC/CDPH move forward.
- We drove by the SDUSD building on our way to the Zoo and there were maybe 300-400 protesters there around 4pm. They were cleared by our drive home at 6:30pm.
- The absence of supporters at the building just means we're not stupid enough to be gathering among hundreds of unmasked and unvaxxed morons.
