Jeff's Weekly Pick: Transfer @ The Beauty Bar Thursday August 26, 2010

Living in a metropolitan area affords one many options when it comes to music. Touring bands get most of the press when frequenting America's Finest City while local bands toil under the radar. There are many bands that call San Diego home, but few have the drawing power of rock mainstays Transfer. This band won the coveted Best Rock Band prize at last year's San Diego Music Awards. Last year the band's latest release, Future Selves, showed a softer and more melodic version of the band. The addition of strings and brass are not uncommon during live performances. The main driving force remain behind Transfer's success is lead singer Matt Molarius. Shaun Cornell (bass/keyboards/producer) Jason Cardenas (guitar) and newest member Andy Ridley (drums) round out the core lineup. What separates Transfer from the competition is its ability to connect with the audience. Their frenetic shows reveal the passion the band possesses for the music. This is a band that truly deserves a larger audience, but San Diegans are lucky to have them pretty much all to themselves for the time being. See the band perform live on the patio at The Beauty Bar this Thursday. A good time is guaranteed.

Dead Feather Moon and The Secret Seven set the stage.
