Last night there was another shooting in Normal Heights, and again the victim was leaving the A/C Lounge, only this time, instead of it being random, there was a post-bar altercation and the little punk came back and shot the other dude in the face. Another major difference is that since the shooter was at the A/C, witnesses were able to piece things together and the guy was arrested. I've written extensively about the shootings in my area here and I also attended a community meeting and wrote about it here.
It's not enough to get pissed off. This is OUR community. Do the simple things: keep an eye on your neighborhood, turn on or install security lighting, and, um, don't get in bar fights becuase people are fucking psycho and even more so after a night of drinking. I'd personally like the A/C Lounge to take some responsibility this time around. I don't know how you change the entire clientele of a bar, but something's gotta happen and soon. These situations are unacceptable.

According to the police report, the victims were leaving a party on 4600 30th St., not the AC Lounge.
There are conflicting reports. One posting claims that the police report identified the two participants as being at a house party which happened to be located near the AC. Media reports have the AC being the focal point of the action. Either way, the AC will have to take action before they end up shut down like Kindred Spirits. Here's a start - change the music. There are never violent incidents on Big Sonic Chill night. Stop playing music that thugs like and thugs won't come to your bar. One never sees thugs in The Tower, and City Heights is far more dangerous than 30th and Adams (I know; I live four blocks from the AC).
The owner of AC Lounge is doing just that. He's sacked the Thursday night DJ in favor of an event another DJ and I are putting together, specifically to help change the tide of the clientele.
Here's hoping we can pull it off. The AC is a cool when the music is right.
This whole gives me the creeps. I was in my apartment in Normal Heights hearing the helicopters overhead and a police car pulled right in front of my aparment window. I hear the squeeky voice from the walkie talkie "Suspect is wearing..." and I know something crazy happened. Try to joke about it to make myself feel better at the moment, but now reading the info it hits home. I know alot of good people in Normal Heights and it makes me feel safe and they make me believe that most other people are like them. But then this happens and I wonder if it isn't very safe here, and I wonder could one of my friends be hurt, or myself. Sad day in NH, but hopefully there is a positive influx of people changing the tides.
Excellent, Edgartronic. I'd like to see the AC in the news for positive reasons. The bar is gorgeous inside, and I'd go there again if it played music I liked (I don't expect it to, though; I'm one of about five people in SD whose favorite genre is old country).
