Things To Do In San Diego: February 4-6, 2011

If you're wondering why the listings are late, well, I actually got some sleep this week (like more than 4 hours in one session).

But, if you're wondering why the listings are thin, well, besides it being Superbowl Sunday, which stops everything in the space/time continuum, it's time for me to call some people out.

Sam Chammas, if you need me to do calendar updates for you, please contact me. See Casbah for referral. Same goes for you, Mick, over at Tower Bar. Do you know your calendar for Tower still has November listings?

Some people just didn't book this weekend, like Bar Pink, which is fine, I'm sure it will still be crazy packed this weekend like always. Thanks to Ruby Room for having a subscribable Google Calendar, though I really don't need to see everytime you Z out. If EVERYONE had one, kept it updated, and made them sharable, my life would be so simple.

I guess DreamStreet is officially gone? Someone told me it's gonna be called Mama's Place or Big Momma's or something in that vein? Che Cafe's site has been down for months. Personally, I'd be pretty pissed if my band was playing your bar or venue and you don't even have a workable site where people will see that I'm playing. And aren't you having entertainment to bring people in and make money in your establishment?

To Donovan's Circle of Fifths, your text should be scrollable since not everyone works with the same screen dimensions, and, by the way, there's no 30th of February. To Queen Bee's, thanks for the Google calendar, but it shouldn't take 3 pop-ups to get me there and someone should make sure the listings are clear and not all the bands just mushed together. I'll take issue with NSD on that front. Belly Up, Casbah, Soda Bar, The Shakedown, Eleven, Voyeur, - thank you all for being easy, updated, and consistent and for not playing crappy music when I go to your sites.

Last, I don't look at MySpace and I shouldn't have to hunt for your events in Facebook. If I'm digging for it and not finding it, what do you think the average person is doing? You might as well not be having it.

I hope more venues start keeping fresh information in google calendar (or any iCal format). makes it super easy to see what shows are coming up. Thanks for poking the slackers! hopefully they will take the hint and get on the ball.

Venues listen up..

I also second that Note to Venues - "DO NOT" have music on your site automatically play. It's the biggest rookie design mistake in web history. We stream our own music and don't need your blaring music with a hidden pause button coming up every page.

Awesome post! And good call, NightTime--no more music on websites. Nobody wants to listen to that shit! (Lookin' at you, Side Bar/Fluxx/Bacchus House.)
