Other Notable Weekend Events in San Diego: February 11-13, 2011

There are a couple big events that don't necessarily fit in my listings but I wanted to mention. The first is Prevention Magazine's "On The Run" event, the other is the huge centennial kickoff to celebrate Naval Aviation at North Island NAS. Here's some brief info on both, but be sure to check out the links for full details.

Prevention magazine is hosting their second annual “On the Run” event in San Diego on Saturday, February 12th. This one-day-only event will include a 5/10k and a half marathon race. There will also be a post-race expo featuring running analyses, nutrition consultations and fitness advice from experts, in addition to live music, giveaways, and raffles; best of all, you'll have the opportunity to meet Prevention's Fitness Editor, Jessica Cassity!

This weekend, the North Island NAS is open to the public to celebrate 100 years of Naval aviation. They'll have a 200 plane "Parade of Flight" as well as a base open house. You can watch more about it on NBC San Diego and get detailed information on Sign On San Diego.

Prevention’s second On the Run event dashes back to San Diego! Join us for a fun 5K, 10K, and - for the first-time! - a ½ marathon run! A 1.5 mile “Mini Mermaid” run for girls ages 6-12 is also on tap for the day, introducing girls to the world of running or power walking.

Attendees are also invited to enjoy a post race expo with Prevention’s Fitness Editor, Jessica Cassity, and featuring running analyses, nutrition consultations, the latest findings in heart disease prevention, and fitness advice from experts; there will also be live music, giveaways, and raffles. This free-to-the-public event is a great way to celebrate your health while soaking in the sights of scenic Mission Bay!

A donation will be made to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health as part of a public-private partnership with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) on behalf of The Heart Truth® in support of women's heart health education and research. The Heart Truth ® is a national campaign to raise women’s awareness about heart disease prevention. Designer dresses from the campaign’s annual Red Dress Collection fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will also be on display at the post-race expo.
