Sunday Recap (pt.2): Indie Jam After Party with Smoosh, Pipettes

I wasn't planning on going to the Casbah, but when a friend of mine said he'd put me on the list, I had to go just to see what all the fuss was about. A lot of people had recently told me about how A-MA-ZING the Pipettes were, and the bloggers went kinda nutso over them after South By Southwest. So yeah, I went to the show.

I guess there was a first act, but I missed him. I was most excited to see Smoosh. The tween sisters were not just adorable, but really talented. They were joined onstage for a couple songs with their youngest sister who is apparently 10 but looked even younger. The drummer would get a huge grin on her face every time she got to really beat the hell out of her drums so it was even more fun to watch. If they sucked, people probably still would've cheered for the novelty of their age, but they could really play and they could really sing and I think the crowd was as impressed as I was.

After their set, I went to the patio and hung out with friends, and by the time I made my way back in, the front area was packed. I got as close as I could and took a few pictures but I don't even think I lasted through one song. Someone please explain this band to me. They were all really nice...I talked to them after their show, and they have pretty voices, but am I supposed to fall for their gimmicky schtick? Yeah, they're sexy, and their outfits match but I'm not really a fan of pop from 50 years ago. I kept expecting them to bust out with "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boys of Company B". Anyway, I stand alone, apparently because the room was packed. So whatever, here are some pics and the setlist. (Note on the setlist: this is the same setlist they play everywhere, apparently. I've seen the same printout on at least 3 other sites.)

After the show, the guys from Interpol were supposed to DJ but were delayed. Apparently back at Indie Jam, their dog that they take on tour went missing. Story goes that the guys in Kings of Leon don't like the Interpol boys and pulled the prank, but as a dog owner, I'd say that is just not cool if the story is, in fact, true. Anyway, one of em finally showed up and we finished off the night. I think I need 3 days of sleep now.
