SXSW Bound

I really underestimated how much time it would take to prepare for my second trip to SXSW. I was happy that I was able to at least read through all of my email before setting off, but whereas last year I RSVPed to every party that I could, this year I was slightly less ambitious, or perhaps a bit more realistic, knowing my stay this time around is shorter. It also has to do with actually being on assignment by NBC, once again aiming to track San Diego bands as they wade through the chaos of Austin.

Again, I want to thank everyone whose donations made this trip possible. Before even getting in the van, you already helped as I made some critical SXSW survival goods. I've never loved the 99 Only Store and Dollar Tree so much. We're loaded up with van snacks like pretzels, granola bars, Vitamin Water, pudding cups, Cheez-It Mix, and generic apple newtons. I also loaded up on baby wipes, rain ponchos, a shower glove, and one of those magic hair wraps that supposedly helps dry hair quickly without taking the luggage real estate of an extra towel. Everything for about $25!!

Jesse and I also made an electronics run, so I was also able to purchase an extra camera battery and a backup phone power source. Clearly the electronics manufacturers have a total racket, amounting nearly $100 just for extra juice.

But, I promise to spend wisely and load up on free anything whenever and wherever I can, though I couldn't resist these little Black Labels at 50% off in Yuma, Arizona. Let the fun begin.
