Thursday's Things to Do In San Diego

I was so focused on how many things I wanted to capture on Friday night that I completely overlooked how jam packed tonight is with great things to do, so I thought I would highlight a couple.

Tonight, I'll be at the Tokyo Police Club/Dappled Cities show at the Beauty Bar. I've been waiting to see TPC since I got their EP early last year and after getting my hands on the Dappled Cities CD, I knew I couldn't miss this show. But that doesn't mean there aren't other sweet things going on...

Dusty Rhodes and the River Band are performing their final night of their residency at the House of Blues 5th Avenue Sidestage. I went to both of their other residency nights and saw them before that at Scolari's and they are never boring and they never disappoint. They should go on around 10 pm (I don't think there's an opener). Free.

Terrin Durfey has been a staple in the San Diego music community for years. He has been battling cancer for the greater part of ten years and this past month he discovered that the cancer has returned once again. He will be starting an aggressive treatment and will be out of commission for the coming months. In an effort to alleviate some of the emotional and financial stress that the Durfey family will be facing, there have been a couple fundraisers. Tonight, for $10 (or more, if you feel generous), you can show support and get a night of amazing music at the Belly Up. Earthless, Rob Crow, Years Around the Sun, and Mr Tube and The Flying Objects are all performing.

Tonight is also another Visual Underground at the Casbah where rock, film and art (and booze!) come together. Tonight's performers are Silverbird and Blackout Party, both standouts on the San Diego music landscape.

The offerings at the Tower Bar and Zombie ain't too shabby either. I'm exhausted just thinking about all of it.
