Wednesday Newsy Bits

I stayed home last night, so I'll spare you an American Idol/Veronica Mars recap and it is a slow as hell news day so I have just a couple bits...on with the show...

Local band Parker Theory's new album dropped yesterday and I meant to post about it but never got around to it. Click on the banner at the top of this site to open an e-card with samples of some of the tracks. JonnyUps, the bassist told me, "it will cause you to revert back to the music you liked at age 13-16...but you know, that was a good time, right?" Check em out. They're playing Soma on June 9th. The album was released on Rescue/Fabtone Records.

According to CityBeat, the date for the 2007 San Diego Music Awards has been set for September 17 and will be held again at Viejas casino. Bands are eligible for nominations if they put out music during the period of July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2007. There is one thing I know for sure...I will be taking a vacation day on September 18, for sure.

This week's Blurt section of the Reader has an article about Street Scene's issues. Most interesting:

Fairgrounds CEO and general manager Tim Fennell said
at the meeting that "...there are still minor details to be worked out" with
Live Nation, the nationwide promoter that took over Street Scene from founder
Rob Hagey last month...

...Fennell responded by saying that Hagey was out of the
picture and that Street Scene was now in different hands.

I thought LiveNation formed a "partnership" with Rob Hagey. If the event is purely a LiveNation event, I would like to modify and retract some of the things I said here, because one can expect that ticket prices and service charges will be exorbitant. I'm not writing it all off, but let's just say if someone had asked me to name my top 6 summer concerts, this would've been teetering on number 6. This move would drop it off the list in a heartbeat.
