Wednesday Night Recap: Vinyl Radio & Get Back Loretta @ Belly Up

So last night, I ventured with Andrea and Mel to the Belly Up. With a DD secured, I was just silly as shit, but that's what happens after four straight nights of staying home.

I know anyone who reads here is tired of me writing about Vinyl Radio, so I'm just not gonna other than saying they rocked it, per usual, and it was awesome to see them on a proper stage with proper lighting rocking out a pretty decent sized crowd, considering it was a Wednesday night at the Belly Up and their usual groupies weren't even there. Yes, I just said they have groupies. What of it?

Anyway, you're also probably bored of my amateur photos, but come on, I took em, I have to post em. Natalie was there with "real" cameras, so when she get's her new computer and can post, you should check hers out. In the meantime...

The Vinyl Radio mascot was there...

I can't go geek free, even on a local night, so I grabbed setlists for fun.

After the show the kids were hiding in the corner.

Oh, and I met Daniel who I have seen everywhere but never actually met before. He said nobody has ever blogged about him so now he can't really say that anymore, can he?

Get Back Loretta was 2nd onstage and it's pretty ridiculous that this was my first time ever catching them. I liked their music a lot and the Belly Up seems the perfect venue for them. I'm interested to see how their sound translates on the tiny Beauty Bar stage when they play with Dynamite Walls. There were tons of people there by the time they played, too.

Did I forget to mention the part where I tell you that the Belly Up has $3 Peroni as their "beer of the month"? OK, I just thought that was a good time to mention that.

So Get Back Loretta rocked it but not in a dirty 70's Vinyl Radio way, more in an indie sweet pretty pop kinda way. They're kinda goofy onstage which the crowd seemed to like. The keyboardist sang a little ditty about a blow job that was completely degrading but also completely hilarious, because it was basically like "Get on your knees" but in the sweetest melody. Get Back Loretta gets my big thumbs up, though no bj from me, thanks.

Yovee closed out the night but they didn't really do it for me. Really, how could they compete with THREE DOLLAR PERONI? Yeah, just wasn't happening.

I would've liked to leave earlier than we did, but when I did finally get back to my 'hood, LaTaunya Lockett was already done performing at the Ken. That kinda bummed me out because I didn't realize I know her. Not directly, but back in the day, we had mutual friends at summer school at Bonita Vista. Years later we bonded at a G.Love show when she and I were elbows up to some dumb bitches trying to claw past us to get a piece of Jack Johnson. G. Love actually heard her singing along to one of his songs and passed her the mic so she could sing backup for him. Anyway, I guess she's gonna play somewhat regularly at the Ken Club, so I'll keep you posted the next time she appears.

I can't say it was a bad time though...I finally met Scott, a regular at the bar who I've probably seen a million times and never met. So we finally got to chatting and I noticed his work and asked if I could take a picture because it was so damn beautiful. So don't blame him...he really isn't the cheesy guy showing off his tats in a bar, I made him do it.

Anyway it was another great night in San Diego. I just wish I hadn't gone through the entire day thinking it was Thursday because it was maybe a little too early to start the weekend.
I could really use a nap.

I love that "camera" is now plural. I'm totally that asshole with two cameras at a show. Ewww. Or, I'm too poor to afford new lenses so I use my Dad's old shit...

Btw, it helps if you spool the film correctly in those old cameras. I thought I took a whole roll of film with a wide-angle lens, but unfortunately 'twas not the case. Better luck next time, I guess.
